I actually think Ahch-to makes the most sense as a place where she gets the new outfit, because those little nun aliens who live there seem like the type of characters who could make the clothes for her? Maybe it's some kind of parting gift from them.

I've been saying this for a while now - why change the canonical and historical legacy of what is supposedly Carrie Fisher's greatest performance only because she passed away? Wouldn't this go against a lot of the hard work she put into this film? - but I'm glad to have any remaining fears finally calmed by someone more in the know than myself.

As for Han having a funeral in TLJ, it doesn't at all seem likely, though I think a dual funeral in IX for both Han and Leia would be apt (I personally think both Leia's and Carrie's passings will be alluded to in the end credits medley as peaceful and of natural causes with the inclusion of Leia's Theme), seeing as we likely won't be getting any closure regarding Leia, more specifically, in TLJ.

    Not a bad theory.

One thing I think we can all agree on though is the fact that Rey's Jedi outfit is awesome. I know we've known what it will look like for a while, but it still bears repeating, the costume designers and concept artists did a great job in designing her outfit. She really does look like a proper Jedi, yet at the same time the look is uniquely hers.

Re-watching the trailer, I noticed that she has the outfit when she's taking a dive. So yeah, that costume is made sometime after she has the Force vision of Luke and Ben at the Jedi Enclave.

I was not all that impressed with TFA costume design. I liked Rays outfit as it made sense and all the others that was designed before TFA...the rest was a big "meh" for me.

With that said, I LOVE Reys new outfit and Leias as well. I know its the same designer...looks like he may have stepped it up.

Since Rey is captured and taken to Snoke, it's a sure bet this'll be near the end of the film as it'll be a massively important scene. What if this scene is the one where Ren has to prove himself to Snoke: "Ren, strike her down or I'll destroy her."

I think that she might get her costume right before that, maybe as a test even

Man, the more I watch the trailer and the more I read comments here and other message boards, I can say one thing is for sure: I am completely confused about what's going to happen in this movie...AND I LOVE IT! Now, I have to resist the temptation to seek clarity the next two months and try to go in as clueless as I am now but still contribute to these boards with you fine folks!

same here.. it's wonderful that we've had so many questions about ep8 for nearly 2 years, and nearly all of the questions remain unanswered.

i'm on defcon 2 now.. watching out for big spoilers to avoid them. whilst i'm happy guessing what happens... i don't want to actually know any more than i do now.

This story seems legit and seems to indicate that while they didn't alter Leia's story in the film, they may have re-edited the ending so that some of what was shot can be a bookend at the beginning of Ep 9. This is further evidence that Leia may be involved in a cliffhanger of sorts.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/late-carrie-fisher-final-star-wars-movie-article-1.3030154
The late Carrie Fisher will make an appearance from beyond the grave in the final "Star Wars" movie of the new trilogy [Ep 9], her brother Todd Fisher tells Confidential. He [Todd] and Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, have granted the studio rights to use recent footage for the finale [Ep 9]. It is understood that CGI will not be used to recreate Leia. “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don't,” said [Todd] Fisher.

For the millionth billionth time, they've already confirmed that Episode IX was going to be all about Leia in the same way that The Force Awakens is about Han and The Last Jedi is about Luke, and that they aren't changing TLJ to do anything to forcibly resolve Leia's story.

Sorry if I'm sounding cranky here, but I'm getting real sick of hearing this misconception over and over again, and I can't wait for less than two months from now so we can finally be done with it.

It's everyone's guess but yes, I think they changed it because they don't have the choice.

If that were the case, then they wouldn't have clarified that they didn't alter TLJ to take Carrie Fisher's death into account. And they've already said that they didn't change a damn thing. I would argue that adding something in to have her killed off - just because she's not going to be in Episode IX - would be completely tasteless. Find a better way of filling that gap in before the last one comes out or explain what happens in the last one. Don't have a Frankenstein CGI Carrie Fisher film a scene where she dies of a broken heart in The Last Jedi just because you can.

If anything, I think that TLJ's long running time is partially a result of Lucasfilm wanting to include as many scenes of Leia as possible to serve as a proper send-off, even if the character's story arc won't be finished like intended due to the circumstances. And I honestly think that's the way to go instead of trying to fit in an emotionally-exploitative scene in there to cash in on a tragedy.

Close the film with nothing changed - no sudden Leia death, etc.

Leia's Theme, in full, in the end credits, before or after the medley (or include the theme/tribute exclusively in the film, and include the medley on the OST).

Open IX with a joint funeral for Leia and Han; she can pass of natural causes between the films, and this can give the fans real closure, whilst respectively sustaining what is purportedly Carrie Fisher's best performance as Leia.

The repercussions of this can be felt in the film - upon learning this, Kylo could fall deeper/continue the path of redemption/go rogue.

I absolutely disagree that they don't have a choice other than unnecessarily killing a CGI Leia/having her die off-screen (oh, that ship exploded? Wait, wasn't Leia on that ship?) during the film's third act.

Tremorrow was still the director at that time right ? How can you say they didn't change anything while they already changed the director ?

I'm not going to say it is going to happen ! I'm just saying that it is difficult to make a dead character central to a movie.
    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 17, 2017, Original Post Date: Oct 17, 2017 ---
It's a guess but I don't think it is going to happen. There will be no funeral for Han in Ep VIII nor Ep IX. This is a movie not real life.

Because Lucasfilm still confirmed that Leia was intended to have a huge part in Episode IX and that they aren't changing The Last Jedi at all. I feel like I'm repeating myself...

And even if they swapped out directors, the intent on the behalf of the producers was still there - the movie was meant to be a trilogy of tributes to each of the OT's central characters.

What they'll do now is unclear. But I think it's likely that they'll feature the memory of Leia as a rather prominent component of the story, so that it's still spiritually about Leia even if she's not in the movie. Kind of like the opposite of what they did with The Dark Knight Rises with respect to The Dark Knight.
Last I checked, Qui-Gon, Padmé, and Anakin all got onscreen funerals...

Yes I understand you. I just can't see how you can have a huge role in a movie while not being in it.
