I agree. Nothing gets published these days without approval from Lucasfilm first. Too many legal teams involved for that to ever happen. I am sure this is a slight in the least towards both arcs expanding and I think he is referring to Leia.

 

"Kylo is the Chosen One" memories coming back... A friendly reminder - it's not commonly known that Leia is the mother of Kylo Ren specifically.

Whilst I agree, I don’t think that’s a reason for Leia to hide the fact that she is/was the Princess of Alderaan. It’s a moot point: everyone in that galaxy who is in a position to know it, knows it.

I sense that there are forces at play behind-the-scenes here. This is still so...odd.

I’ve finally read what was said after having what it was “spoiled” for me.

The quotes that have been floating around are segments from a preview for the interview.

This stinks of smart editing, specifically for the preview (to coax people into going to their website or purchasing the magazine): we don’t have any context at all for this quote. The words preceding this could literally be clarifying that this is a metaphor or that he’s talking about some other character.

In essence, this is clickbait and false advertising.

 

That's an extremely awkward statement (especially out of context), but not a spoiler IMO. He must be referring to Leia in some way. Massive clickbait by GQ...

i think he was referring to his mother. Leia was the princess.. i think he is referring to her hiding away from her identity. Kylo hid from his heritage with a mask and a new name, Leia perhaps used her responsibilities to the rebels to hide her heritage. both trying to avoid the responsibility of being a Skywalker and trying to live up to Luke

very high odds that GQ have been naughty here... not that it would be a surprise. Adam should know better though.

 

I agree with everything you said @Maximus , especially having stated similar things.

When I found out, something just wasn’t sitting right with me about the whole thing.

I don’t actually think Adam could have known and done much better, even if he knew that they planned to do this, assuming that it’s a con and merely cruel and deceptive editing on GQ’s part. All he could have really done is drop the character’s name that he was referring to a bit more frequently, but even then, this could be edited for vagueness.

Star Wars now gets free press and fuel for speculation that it didn’t exactly need anyway, at least up until the magazine releases in full.

In other news, THANK THE FORCE Pablo Hidalgo had the (rare, for him) sense to not comment about this; even if it is deceptive, it’s something fun to talk about. Makes me think LFL have been in his ear telling him to remain neutral this time around...

 

JJ Abrams has likened TFA to a fairy tale with a princess, a prince and castle. Maybe Adam Driver is using this metaphor here. Out of context it may seem to imply that Rey is a Solo (which was my initial impression) but perhaps he is talking about the function of Rey in the story.

 

I feel so bad for the guy. Like he wasn't uncomfortable enough with interviews. Now he'll go "screw this, I'm not talking Star Wars anymore..."

If his comments are indeed innocent, GQ must know they're twisting the whole thing. Not cool. They even put a spoiler warning in that article...

 

I'd say wait until the full interview comes out. I feel bit queasy finger pointing accusations on both sides. Until we get the full details am not sure it's fair to call out the magazine or to suggest Adam is useless at interviews. But we shall see.

 

A Japanese poster for The Last Jedi. Why did Luke and Rey swap places? Also, there's a Porg on Chewie's shoulder.

Ugh, some poor photoshopping going on here. Sorry, international posters are usually subpar. RO's were awful.

To address the elephant in the room - I don't think this confirms that Luke will use the blue lightsaber even though a promotional shot of him holding it apparently exists (they cut the hand and pasted here). It still could happen in the film, but I don't think this is the confirmation.

Agreed. That hand looks sooooo fake. Also, I find it quite funny that "international" posters and trailers are created specifically for one country, while the standard/American ones are the ones that have a truly international outreach. Just something to think about.

It's legit, I've noticed that official accounts don't share "international" posters and trailers.

Yeah, Kylo's is even worse. It's so uncomfortably close to his chest.

 

Also, it looks like they gave Leia some goth eyeshadow.
