I've been thinking the same thing, basically since we started hearing they would be filming there...

They may as well reuse some of the concepts... they had a fair amount of Exotic City stuff which was ultimately dropped in favour of Maz Kanata's castle.

 

If, IF this is Naboo, what would be the purpose for going back? Maybe there's an ancient Jedi temple...? Could either Luke and/or Leia be going back to their "roots" and where their mother was from for some reason? Luke to try and rediscover something or show Rey something there? Leia to help her heal from the loss of Han?

 

also a possibility (it was mentioned in the shattered empire comic books i believe) secret hidden stuff from Palpatine in a sort of "Sith temple".

But anything is possible.

They could even visit JarJar

 

I'm just wildly speculating here, but my initial thoughts are that it looks like a pirate/smuggler hangout. I suspect more 'Tatooine by the sea' than Naboo.

So, the latest pics from Dubrovnik show some sort of ship/boat being retrofitted for filming. I guess it's cheaper than building a working boat, right? What could this be? Who could be on it? A space bar of the seas? Did Maz move her hang out to a boat?

I love those icon ratings. I sort of made a ratings pun by giving Lego Han a 3PO rating on his post...

Talking of rating icons there should be an R2D2 one, no? Perhaps "Saves the Day", "Super helpful"...It's kind of insulting to have the new guy (BB8) and not have the most important character in SW and he is in all the movies too!

Back to Dubrovnik speculation...I don't think that's Naboo...It's a new place...
For some reason I think King Prana may be involved...Just a hunch. (And that Kind Prana is going to appear in VIII or IX is a given. There must be a reason to have the rathtars and the two gangs appearing in TFA...You don't set up a story and leave it there...King Prana is the Jabba of the ST...)

It will be interesting to see (hopefully we will, and soon) which actors are going to be in Dubrovnik...

I don't think you may be onto something, I think you might have hit the nail on the head!!

It's been known that Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams have had discussions as to what one will use for VII and the other for VIII and perhaps even IX ( I believe Rian also wrote IX). (This deserves it's on thread btw)

I was going through the VII leaked concept art, some of that leaked art may have become part of VIII.

For instance, we know they are scouting cave locations for VIII in Mexico. Could that be for this?



And where does this fit in THE FORCE AWAKENS?

The boat idea sounds very cool. Someone mentioned it will be an exterior shot, shot from land... though it's just rumors so that might be up in the air.

You remember the scenes in the PT where someone would be having a conversation as a transport approaches in the background ? (like I think when Anakin & Padme departed in AOTC & as Anakin was about to depart coruscant & the star destroyer came in to pick him up?) I'm thinking it will be something like that... a medium scale vessel like the one we saw Finn getting ready to board in TFA.

I think it's badass that they are doing that without just CGI'ing a ship in (if the rumor is true)

 

I'm interested but I don't think everyone would like that...especially the prequel/Hayden ultimate-bashers.

Not so sure, as Palpatine was no where near to being in The Force Awakens. I have all the leaked concept art that came out from 'Millennium Falcon' way back when and this definitely was a part of the Leaked concept art for VII.
