It's totally true. Han invited Chewbacca to move in with him and Leia and was living in their garage. Turns our Chewbacca is a seriously violent alcoholic who rage drinks and trashes the place then howls all night in the yard . Leia's had enough and tells Han it's Chewie or her. He chooses Chewbacca and they both move out together. Han tells Ben he's going out for a carton of Blue Milk.

Later on Han hooks up with that Mara Jade character and gets her pregnant with Rey. When Mara tells him he says he has another price on his head that he forgot about and he's going to go pay if off but never comes back.

Mara Jade is played by Meryl Streep in IX and is now dating Lobot (Performed by Sir Ben Kingsley in TROS).

 

Well...

Except Leia brushes her planet being destroyed rather easily. Personal tragedy is different.

 

That probably closes the book on this one. There's no way in the world Pablo would be touching this subject if there was any possible way it was true.

 

There we have it.

 

It's as if a billion fans sighed in relief.

This rumour was interesting because for a moment it created a unity among the reddit Star Wars fanbase. This hypothetical Episode IX was apparently the perfect villain.

 

I've never understood the idea of "why would Kylo lie?" Seriously? He murdered his own father, but lying is beneath him?

I personally don't like the idea of Rey being Han's "love child" and hope it isn't true. The ONLY good thing to come out of it, if it is true, is seeing the Reylo shippers go bonkers.

 

Reylos are busy enjoying the Vanity Fair coverage, and we also keep up with the news.

 

Hidalgo only claimed that Rey isn't an affair child because she's 19 and Han and Leia become estranged until 5 years before TFA so the timeline of the rumor doesn't fit with what's already published. (archive)

Rey would only be Han's child with Leia and not some woman on the side.

 

I don't think Hidalgo is familiar with the rumor, but he wouldn't be commenting at all Rey Solo there's any truth in it. So this should end Rey Solo/Skywalker for good.

 

I’m relieved but perhaps for reasons different from those of others.

I’d have actually been ok with Han having an affair. Main characters’ infidelities are not unusual in PG films. People make mistakes like these and continue being good people, that’s not a problem for me, much less if the circumstances of the affair are explained... One would not condone the affair, for sure, but it would be understood. Also if Han had been unaware that his affair had made him a father, his behaviour in TFA would have been consistent.

Let’s not forget that Han’s death was a sacrifice to save his son, and for me that gesture absolves him completely from a wrongdoing of this kind, if there was any. My understanding of Han has always been that he was loyal and decent, and that he would always end up doing the right thing... but there is also that part of Han that is reckless, that doesn’t think... It wouldn’t be out of character for him to cheat in a moment of despair, but, of course, I understand that no OT fan would enjoy seeing or being made aware of Han betraying Leia or viceversa. I wouldn’t have liked it either, but I would have been ok with it. There is a difference.

I hear people saying that the only reason of having Han being Rey’s father would be to give Rey legacy parents, but I don’t see it that way. For me Han being Rey’s father would offer a very emotional and dramatic impetus to the story. It would make Rey question her idealisation of Han and make her easy prey for someone trying to turn her to the dark side (Palpatine?). It would flesh out Kylo’s words about Han ( “foolish, week and disappointing”). Kylo doesn't seem angry at his father and he does not kill him out of anger... but he appears to latch on to a feeling of disappointment in that bridge scene... I have always wanted to know more about that.

I’m mostly relieved about this news not being true because it means Kylo and Rey are not related. Because, well, the mushy romantic in me sees them as relationship material in a future trilogy... You wouldn’t have Adam Driver looking like Heathcliff in a VF cover and then insist on making him spend most of his screen time, both in present and future films, thugging it up with the KOR, would you?

Although I’m inclined to think Leia might have had something to do with Rey being left in Jakku more than with any parentage.

 

I'm curious... what was Luke doing 19 years before TFA? What was he doing when Rey was left on Jakku 4-6 years later? What was Leia doing? Ben Solo was 10 when Rey was born. Rey was left on Jakku when Kylo was between 14 and 16... was this at a critical time, was Rey hidden because of what had become apparent about Ben? It's interesting that in the ForceBack vision, when Kylo appears with the KoR, the next image is Rey being left on Jakku.

Are all these things connected? Who would of been aware of both Rey and Ben?

 

I don't keep up with most of the EU but I read Bloodline and there it is implied that Han and Leia, although still very much in love, are under some strain in their relationship... Leia makes clear that Han could never have been taken away from his ways, his piloting, his deals, his life of before and that they had spent a fairly amount of time apart in their marriage. Leia thinks of retiring of politics and start having a life travelling the galaxy with Han... something that never materialised as the events of Bloodline happen, her alliance with Casterfo, a political opponent, and the uncovering of money deals between the old imperials and some factions of the new republic.

 

That's interesting, but seems like a side story in relation to future events. What is Ben Solo doing at this time? Where is Luke? We don't have any canon for them during the first 10-15 years of Ben's life, how long did Luke run the Jedi Academy? Who did he run it with?
