If true, this gets confusing. Kylo said that it was time to move past the SIth and the Jedi..."Let the past die." And now he creates a special battalion using this name? Does this imply he went all in after Rey got away and he lost at Crait?

I would say yes. He tried to change his path but failed. Now, as Supreme Leader of the First Order, Kylo likely embraces the path and all the power that comes with it, going, as you say, all in. (It is quite possible, however, that this is only his status at the beginning of RoS, and that he changes his mind again, or indeed was playing the FO all along for his own end. There are tangential evidence* suggesting Kylo might have a meeting with our heroes in a cave, possibly seeking an alliance between himself & the good guys for some purpose).

*This "evidence" is based on the interpretation that the red light reflected in C3PO's head in the BTS reel is Kylo's lightsaber, which is FAR from certain. Also, we know how unreliable sightings in caves are in Star Wars...

 

I still think that Kylo may be on a quest to become more even more powerful.
That the re forging of the mask as well as the Sith troopers point to that.

And that there won’t be any let’s put our differences behind us to face Sidius.

I believe the good guys and the bad guys will fight Sidius for different reasons.
That of Kylo being, that Sidius is a competitor in ruling the Galaxy.

That is how “the light legacy and the dark legacy vs a greater evil” JJ spoke about, can make sense.

At least, this is as legit as every speculation that sees an alliance between the two sides, or Kylo turning back
to the light side, early on or by the second act.

If there’s any redemption it may very well be a last minute redemption.

Maybe you have 3PO hold it while you dive into a lake to save or retrieve someone/thing.

That’s a fan-made set that just so happens to use that same number. Pretty convincing though!

 

It says: “it would be obvious that this would be the first time rey and kylo meet up in tros as opposed to the trailer.”

 

In behind the scenes footage and photos Kylo's stunt saber lights up much more orange and brighter... they also sometimes don't use a red light at all. So the red light reflection on 3P0 could be from camera equipment rather than a stunt saber.

 

I think it would've been clear if that was camera equipment. I've never seen a Star Wars BTS reel with that 'red mark' on it.

 

It could of been due to the confined location and the placement of the BTS camera. Also if it's Kylo's saber... where's the cross guard blades? I think it's a lot to jump to... KYLO IS THERE based on red lights.

 

Wouldn't there have been people behind the camera? Someone had to use a computer to get them out of the shot.
