A tv show with a Western or old school samurai feel/structure to it with force users chasing other over the galaxy with some epic duels which have story and character development as part of the battles (thing Empire) then bring it on.

It's funny cause I was just wondering about the opposite end of the spectrum. What if we are introduced to a completely different pocket of the GFFA that has no ties (as of yet) to the story we know via the Skywalker Saga? And what if in that galaxy there are no light sabers?

It seems to stand to reason that if different geographic spaces in a galaxy develop independently there might be different technological developments. Maybe instead of light sabers there is some other form of offensive weapon. And maybe there are different Force practices as well. Would folks be ok with that? I wonder.

What do you guys think about Disney’s recent decision to include all these bad guys wielding axes, spears, and other medieval weapons one would think would be useless against a lightsaber? Knights of Ren, Pratoreon guards, the stormtroopers about to execute Finn/Rose, etc...

To me, nothing beats the elegant weapon of the Jedi. Even stormtrooper would look cool wielding something like that. (That’s one Ralph McQuarrie art I wish someone would imitate.)

IMHO, if everyone and their dog wield lightsabers it lessens their mystique and impact. True, Lucas at one point thought about making laser swords the staple sidearm of all combatants in Star Wars but I for one am happy he ended up (probably for practical reasons) reserving these elegant weapons for the space samurai-wizards. Moreover, by giving grunts and the like non-laser sword melee weapons it gives the lightsaber wielding heroes (and villains) something to fight; quite clever, that.

Not bothered and it would make since to have a melee weapon that could counter someone welding a light saber. Just like we have tons of variations of swords in real life, they all essentially do the same thing, cut an object in half. Also those weapons isn't too far off from Rey's and Chirrut's bo staff and Tuskin Raider's Gaderffii stick. So in a nutshell, I think KOR weapons fits in nicely with the SW universe.

I just don't want another Jedi origin Story:
    • The original trilogy was Lukes origin story and stops when he became a Jedi
    • The Sequel Trilogy is likely to end with Rey becoming a Jedi.
I don't want the new films to be about someones path to becoming a Jedi. I want to go on some adventures with force users at the height of their powers.

I keep thinking about it, and it would be interesting to see the Jedi and Sith philosophies reorganized into buckets where some of the Jedi and Sith traits go into one philosophy and some of the Jedi and Sith traits go into another philosophy and those be the two opposing factions. Could still have light sabers battles but maybe the "bad guys" aren't constrained to just red anymore. And definitely a different set of force abilities (for example they could have abilities we've never seen on screen before, but not have abilities we are familiar with like Jedi Mind trick and Sith lightning). Make it Star Wars, but a new cross section of Star Wars

Lightsaber duels are great, but they have to be somewhat rare to achieve that greatness. They can't kill off major characters every week, so if you have constant duels, they will have to be either minor characters you don't care about very much, or characters you already know can't die, which undermines the element of danger.

It almost sounds like what you are really looking for is a video game... I hear Fallen Order will have a lot of dueling. ;)

I agree that an excessive amount of duels can be exasperating. ROTS suffers from too many duels in my opinion; I would have preferred two: Anakin vs Obi, and Windu bs Palpatine. The duel between Palpatine and Yoda could have stayed in the Force spectrum with them hurling senate seats at each other.
