Hello my SW Comics Friends, i decided to start a tread to pay respect to the old, but great, Star Wars Comics.

I think it could be great if we could have a tread to discuss and pay homage to the ancient ones, because the crew here is already covering the new Star Wars Comics pretty well.

I would like to start this topic with a true CLASSIC, a flawless gem, of creative wisdom on the Star Wars Universe, i present to you "Star Wars Infinities", they bring us back to the first Star Wars Trilogy BUT with a major twist because they present situations that end up in a very different way from what happened in the movies changing the entire story, a brilliant concept to start with.

Star Wars Infinities were published by Dark Horse in 4 volumes Mini-Series each, during 2001-2003, under the moto "The world of endless Star Wars possiblities"

Star Wars Infinities - A New Hope (by Chris Warner)

Just imagine Episode IV - A New Hope but in here Luke torpedos missed the target and couldn't destroy the Death Star, Tarkin manages to fire Death Star destroying Yavin 4 while Luke and Han's Millenium Falcon flee into warpspace, Luke almost felt intirely to the Dark Side and tried to kill Han. Rebel base is destroyed, the Empire win the Civil War and Leia gets captured and taken to Coruscant were Darth Vader starts training her in the Sith ways. Luke goes to Dagobaht train with Yoda, and in the dark cave after defeating Vader he sees Leia's face in Vader helmet. A couple of years after the Battle of Yavin Han Solo discovers Leia, now a powerfull Sith, is still alive and drives the Falcon thru and Imperial blockade to get Luke out of Dagobah, were Yoda as told Luke Vader is his father and Leia is his sister. Han Solo and Luke Skywalker with Yoda, R2 and Chewbacca go for the Death Star, were Yoda mind controls Tarkin and takes control of the Death Star. Han, Luke and Chewie head to Coruscant and fight the red Imperial Guards and the now evil 3PO, Luke went on to face the Emperor and Darth Vader and Leia, first he fights Leia until he turns her to the good side and together they face Palpatine that starts throwing lightnin bolts to them when Vader cuts the Emperor in half to save his children, Luke and Leia escape while the Emperor fights Vader and Yoda brings the Death Star to fall in Coruscant. Leia latter becomes Supreme Chancelor of the New Republic.

Star Wars Infinities - The Empire Strikes Back (by Dave Land)

The huge plot change here was what happened in the Empire Strikes Back if Luke Skywalker had died in the ice plains of Hoth at the hands of the vicious Wampa and leaving Han believing he is a Jedi that should go to Dagobah in order to get Jedi training? During the Luke funeral the Empire attack Echo Base, Wedge Antilles is dead, and our heroes escape in the Falcon but got damashed and went to Bespin for repairs. In Bespin Lando Calrissian helps our heroes, and when Boba Fett arrives searching for Han, Lando kill him and allow our heroes to leave t5o Dagobah, after their departure Darth Vader arrives to Bespin and seing Boba Fett is dead and Han and Leia escape with the help of Lando, destroys Bespin completely, killing everybody including Lando. Lando was using Boba Fett frozen in Carbonite as a desk. In Dagobaht Yoda tells Leia that she is the one to be trained and that Vader is her father, Han goes to pay Jabba's debt while Vader keeps seeking his son, Luke, in the Galaxy. Han and Chewie got captured and taken to Jabba's palace to be thrown to the beasts, but R2 saves them and they flee to Dagobah but 3PO was left in Jabba's Palaca and the next days Vader arrives to Tattoine searching for the Skywlaker and recognizes his old droid, 3PO, taking him and finding that a Skywalker is in Dagobah. In Dagobah Leia goes into the dark Cave, while Vader arrives and start a duel with Yoda, Vader kills Yoda, Leia sense Yoda is in danger and comes back to fight Vader cutting his arm off in the process, Vader is almost winning the duel, offering Leia the chance to rule the galaxy with him when Han Solo arrives and shots Vader down. Darth Vader last words "I have a Daughter".

Star Wars Infinities - The Return of the Jedi (by Adam Gallardo)

This is the best one of the entire series. Imagine the scene were Jabba is negotiating with Leia disguised as Boush, now consider that 3PO gets knock down and Leia cannot continue to deal with the hutt? This leaves to a major confusion at Jabba's Palace, when Leia accidentally ignites the termo detonator, Boba Fett fights Lando, shots at Leia and takes Han in Carbonite away, 3PO is destroyed. Luke went to hunt Boba Dett down, while Yoda dies in Dagobah, Luke and Palpatine feel this and the Emperor sends Vader to investigate. Leia, Lando and Chewie manage to find Boba Fett, they kill him and release Han Solo, because of the damages caused from the carbonite frezeing Han might be blind forever, while Luke gets captured and taken to the Emperor at the second Death Star, were the entire Emperial Fleet await the Rebel forces. Leia takes the Slave I and go to the Second Death Star to try to save Luke while the Rebel assault started, the rebel fleet gets pounded by the Empire fleet, while in Endor the Rebel group gets attacked by Stormtroops and enraged Ewoks, the Ewoks attack the Emperials and the Rebels with the same fierce, and in their rage the little buggers manage to destroy the shield generator. On the Second Death Star Throne Room, Palpatine is now also training Luke Skywalker, when Leia arrives and Palpatine orders Vader to her, Luke step to save his sister and fights Vader with the Emperor fuelling his hate and rage, while Luke fights Vader he finds himself and tells Vader that he and Leia are his children, meanwhile the Emperor is Force Lightning Leia to submission, Luke cuts Vader's arm off and states he doesn't wan't to fight Vader anymore but Vader subdue him, Luke says to Vader is time for him to kill his own sons but Vader regrets and begs for forgiveness, returning his old Anakin Skywalker ways. The Rebels start to destroy the second Death Star and when the explosions start, the Emperor Palpatine runs away while Luke and Leia take Darth Vader out of there. Vader is now redeemed, and wears a white full life support suit and helps the Rebellion.

    One Last Note:

These aren't the best well written books (in my opinion if such a juicy content/idea was given to big auteurs we could talking of the best comics ever), but they are original and good enough to make you read from start to finnish without much harm.

Those books do bring back fond memories, what if stories are always fun. Like you said, just imagine the potential of those stories if they were put into the hands of creative talents like Warren Ellis or Scott Snyder.

Another Infinities branded series that I always liked was the Star Wars Tales series. Each issue was a mini anthology of various tales that weren't really bound by continuity. They were allowed to go anywhere they wanted in the stories. For instance, the first issue that I picked up was Star Wars Tales #7.

In the issue you had a story tying into the recent Star Wars Starfighter game giving some back story on the pirate Nym, a goofy story where Plo-Koon entered an Iron Chef style cooking contest, a story where you find out that Boba Fett had a wife and daughter, a story about a slacker who gets the girl on Tattooine and another goofy story where Yoda and Mace Windu have a discussion in a diner with lots of pop culture easter eggs in the background. Plus, they would occasionally have little one page comic strips in the style of Sunday funnies as well.

The fact that they weren't tied to continuity made the stories fun because the creators could go wild and do whatever they wanted. Additionally, some of the more popular stories in the series like the aforementioned Boba Fett tale ended up being adapted into EU canon since they were good tales that didn't contradict other canon stories at the time.

I would absolutely love it if Marvel ever decided to do something in a similar format somewhere down the line. I love my canon comics, but a little more levity and creative freedom from time to time is needed as well.

Star Wars Empire by Dark Horse brings back good memories. Knights of the Old Republic was cool too.

I'm loving the current Marvel Canon comics though - especially Kanan, Shattered Empire, Darth Vader, and The Star Wars.

Really like those Dark Horse Infinities comics with the alternative universe stories. What if the Death Star wasn't blown up and Princess Leia got off on a shuttle and was taken by Darth Vader and trained, while Luke goes to Yoda, so that Luke and Leia end up battling each other? What if Luke got frozen to death instead of saved and Princess Leia trained with Yoda? What if Han Solo's rescue was botched and Boba Fett tried to sell his shot at carbonated self to the Empire as bait, and Darth Vader doesn't die? The New Marvel Canon has really started out great, really liking it and some of the new characters they have added.
