SPOILER Gwendoline Christie's character

Inquisitor /Jedi hunter/Imperial Commander is all I've ever heard her associated with since her casting. So much so that I can't picture her as anything but one or another of those characters. It would be almost odd if she turned out to be"good" when TFA comes out.

 

"Finn" was considered a Shadow Trooper or a Special Forces Trooper .
He in fact was just a white uniform storm trooper.
Let's all wait and see about this new Chistie character....

 

Not hunting Jedi, hunting deserters

 

That's where I'm leaning. There was a thread made after the name leaked asking "Who is Captain Phasma?", and my gut just told me (and most of the others voting) that it had to be Christie's character.

 

I'm starting to think so. If the Character is "elite" and a "hunter", I personally think that suits her perfectly. Someone who can command respect and has no problems getting their hands dirty. Perfect casting if the rumours are true.

 

Well there is no suggestion of what or who Captain Phasma is just the name with no images or any kind of description. So speculation on who Phasma is based on almost no evidence. I think people like GC for Phasma because her character Imperial officer makes sense having a rank in front of her name.

 

Awesome! I cant wait to see somebody hunted!

 

Ya I favor GC as an imperial officer or NCO (Boyega's commander? Haha). I think she will be chasing down Boyega for going AWOL. But I am not ready to call her Captain Phasma until we hear about this mysterious fellow.

I voted for the Captain Phasma=Captain Panaka myself mostly because that choice made me laugh

 

I don't she'll be chasing finn just because he is awol, i think there will be more to it, either he sees something he shouldn't or they realize he has force powers. You wouldn't send an elite officer or even just a regular captain after a deserter.

 

I agree that you don't send an elite after a guy who don't return from leave. This is usually the reasoning for suggesting he is a spy or in disguise. All possible but he might simply have info they want lost. Or annoyed GC or GC's commander in a unique way. Or the moment of conscience he had involves keeping something from the hands of his superiors.

 

As opposed to the spy thing that I disagree with I once had a theory that Kylo Ren manipulates GC into thinking that Finn has stolen something or that he is going to defect to the Republic with valuable intel. This allows Kylo to use GC's skills and resources to track Finn who he thinks is Luke's apprentice. There is also another theory that he steals Luke's lightsaber from Kylo Ren which leads to the chase, if you still favor the search for Luke plotline

 

Interesting. I keep thinking we will see things start from the "beginning" which is not necessarily the case. I figure we would see everyone meet in the new new film and that by in large we would see how they are becoming Luke's apprentice or falling to the Dark Side and so on, but all of these things could have happened before the start of the film and we learn who the characters are no see how they get there. Likely there will be a mix of both.

 

One of the things I love about ANH is that it starts us right in the middle of the story. Lucas set it up as if we started a Flash Gordon serial in the middle. I will be very happy if they do something similar with TFA

 

Interesting observation. I never really noticed it, but ANH does indeed start in the middle of some conflict we don't understand, and with little explanation starts stuff going down. It's a good contrast to TPM, in which we come in before the conflict starts, and the need to explain it all makes the pacing dreadfully slow.

I too hope we get a similar treatment for TFA.

 

I mean they all come in basically during some conflict or the beginning of conflict which we find out more info as we go. TPM started with the trade embargo and the Ambassadors going to discuss and work out the conflict. So even TPM started already in the midst of conflict because personally,and I may just be being picky here, would say that if they really did start TPM before the conflict it would've been completely peaceful and before the trade embargo started. I would consider TPM start to still be in the beginning to middle of the conflict going by what was already going on. Anyway, my opinion so far is Gwen definitely would fit the Captain Phasma Name very well. Granted that's based on ZERO info besides what little bit we have and guess. But picturing her in a Chrome Trooper suit, possibly hunting Finn (for maybe stealing some important info/knowing about things he shouldn't like perhaps a new weapon of Sorts/going AWOL/maybe even because they find out he's force sensitive and the new thing is to hunt and kill those who are to either avoid a new emporer/Vader situation or other way around meaning avoiding a new Luke situation because to me if would make sense that they may want to stop a new Force user revolution by hunting them down before they gain power) or just being a Jedi/Force User Hunter in general and as I touched on in my accidently long parenthesis maybe they hunt down young force sensitive people to either avoid another Luke destroying the Empire situation or maybe to avoid even having another Emporer/Vader situation on their own side. Either way, I can just picture in my mind and see the name Phasma fitting well with her. And as someone else said,at this point there's been so much chatter and rumors of GC being a ChromeTrooper and a Captain of sorts that it would almost throw me for a loop if it went a completely different direction. Phew, sorry...my post got outta hand quick..Couldn't stop it.

Finn may be a spy & stole a white imperial storm trooper uniform.
Han and Luke wore storm trooper uniforms in ANH.

In Raiders, Indy stole a Nazi soldiers digs too. Kasdan wrote that SP.

I've speculated similarly in the past...
Luke is missing but has put a plan in place to discover who this new Sith collector helping the Empire is... so he sends his new Jedi acolytes deep undercover. Finn discovers the collector's identity, snatches Luke's old lightsaber and high tails it. Of course, the Empire has their own Internal Affairs like prosecutors... comprised of chrometroopers led by Gwendoline Christie.

Finn's mission may be two fold... discover the identity of this Relic collector... and get him/her to pursue him... right to Luke. I think Finn may be playing dumb all along, even when he meets Rey and Han... and we'll only see how all the pieces tie together in Act 3 which is DEEP DARK WATERS no one has a clue about.

This is a tweak on a wild rumor a month back that had Domnhall being Luke's son... posing as an Empire figure... who only reveals himself at the start of Act 3 to be a light side Jedi.

Somehow, whether it's Finn, or Domnhall, I'm leaning toward Luke having a plan that surprises everyone. The old crazy master Jedi has never been sharper.

THAT or he's absolutely bat sith, and the noobs are genuinely noobs. Which is exactly what 99% of people thinks is definitely the case... but that 1% is oh so fun!
