I think Gwendoline was automatically assumed by rumour hunters to be a chrome trooper (Knight in armour) due to her role in GOT.

Could it not be that she actually isn't a trooper???

I think it's too cliche that because of her physic and role as a medieval knight, she was picked to be space knight... it's too close.

Ferguson is thee Palpatine.

 

Sadly seeing her in the green uniform without any Alien make up kills my hope that she will sport red contacts and blue laytex and play Admiral Thrawn.

 

Did the Admiral have boobs?

 

No the Admiral was a dude. But he was a cool military character from the EU that I think could be re-imagined and played well by Christie who I could see as a tough military type officer.

 

I know he's a man. I was being sarcastic.

An average Star Wars film has about 10 significant characters, the read through was already a relatively large cast, with no GC, my gut instinct is that anyone not at the read through is a minor part. Now if it was her in the photo at Greenham Common then she's wearing an Alliance uniform. Good assumption is the "Forest of Dean" battle is on the same planet as the Greenham Common Alliance Base, alias Pirate's Bay, simplest guess ie she's just a Rebel Commander who has a role in that battle? Also in the OT the Empire was always very Human, White, Male while the Rebels had a greater variety in turns of species, race & gender, it kind of helped set up the Empire as rather old fashioned - reactionary - I don't see the need to change that.
Alternate - what happens to the Children the Inquisitor collects in 'Rebels'? Could the 'Elite' Stormtroopers be those children and she one of them? Driver was also on the Greenham Common set, if she is a Jekyl/Hide figure could she be his Imperial contact?

 

Yeah the picture is a wrinkle in the "she is an imperial" line of thought.

If they are the "children of the force" gathered by the Inquisitor wouldn't they have more House Slytherin goth feel to their uniforms.

 

Not in ANH and ESB. The Rebels there with the exception of Chewie and Tantuns, were all humans.

 

Not so sure about that. Word was that JJ had yet to cast the role and that it was originally going to be a man. JJ and Disney did not have to have every important character represented in a picture at that table read so there was no need to rush the casting decision just in order for the person chosen to be around for the table read.

One of the many "leaks" that SpoilerMan shared that were largely old news. Plenty of sources were saying Boyega was playing a deserting Stormtrooper and others that GC was going to be an Imperial officer. He added a twist which elaborated on the existing rumor. . . . Now we have her in what looks like rebel fatigues.

Don't take him too seriously much of what he said was not that new and some of the "new ideas" have already been made suspect by the trailer, silly concept art and a script that looked pretty darn fake.

 

I was basically thinking ROTJ. From memory Leia is the only woman on Yavin and I think there was a woman in the Hoth control room, but that's still more than anywhere Imperial. In ROTJ they consciously upped the diversity in the Rebellion (Mon Motha, Admiral Ackbar, Nien Nunb, seems to be a woman on Han's strike team) but not the Empire, which stayed white, male, english accents. It kind of adds to a kind of reactionary 'British Empire' feel to the Empire. It's not a hard and fast rule, 30 years recruitment policies change, but just saying throwing women into the Imperial forces would be a bigger retcon than the Rebels.

 

You can blame corporate backward mentality for that decision. They were cool with having a spy princess shooting stormtroopers, but were against the idea of women in war, as proven in ROTJ as the female x-wing pilot scenes were deleted.

Perhaps she is not a villain and isn't a trooper of any kind?

 

We have seen a few people mention GC is playing an Imperial with chrome armor, a cape, a scared face and a light saber. I'm wondering if the Wampa saber art no one seems to talk about much will end up being GC's saber or if the wampa saber is "the sword" mentioned in the MSW material. I lean more toward "the sword" being the Anakin/Luke saber but this thing is definitely interesting. It has more of a modern design to it. The notes at the bottom of the art are interesting. The "JK" AND "DW" could be anything but perhaps they are the initials of the character (not the actor) using the weapon? They could just be the designers initials.The two images side by side seem to be slightly different too. The one on the left has kind of a two-tone thing going for it and doesn't have the little orange lit part near the switch. It also has engraving for grip near the claw end which is notated. I can't make out that note near the emitter.

 

Would it be too much to ask to see a light saber duel between Kira and this Captain Phasma?

 

It's been speculated since the first leak that GC's saber is the Wampa saber, but we haven't had rumors/leaks about GC for ages

 

JK has been speculated to be Jedi Killer I believe.
