Yeah so I've got an obsession with Halo (that I've had for many many many years) so I figured it was a good idea to make a Halo thread. Anyway, let's talk about Halo! *claps*

Halo's games need to explore the rest of its vast universe.

A Sangheili spinoff would be nice.

And a Forerunner spinoff too, now many of you may say that Bornstellar is in most need of one but I disagree because he was already treated well enough in the books.

The Ur-Didact deserves a game because he was already treated badly enough in the games already. I propose we sack Brian Reed and 343 and bring back better writers to save my favourite character in this franchise.

I'm getting really tired of this franchise's competitive humanity f*** yeah focus when we have so many unexplored areas of that universe that are just waiting to receive as much recognition. This is about diversity, and Halo does not have it.

Sadly the company's intention is to shoot and kill anything that isn't human.

Star Wars and Mass Effect have species living in harmony. Diversity, that's what I want to see.

Well, we've got 27 more years of Halo, so I think that this will most certainly happen.

    Hell yes

Again, hell yes. And I agree with the concept that the Forerunner spinoff should be about the Ur-Didact. Perhaps it would be about his conflict with the ancient humans. Now that would be an interesting reversal from the traditional Halo perspective.

    lmfao

Sadly, this is true. It seems that 343 wants to go for a more accessible route. However, after Halo 5's ending, perhaps it's possible that all the various species in the Covenant + humanity will have to unite to defeat Cortana and the rest of the created. That should be interesting.

    Again, accessibility :(

Yeah pretty much. Patience, like I said, this may be about to change in Halo.

What do you guys think of Halo 5? IMO the campaign is ok but the multiiplayer is the best it's been since halo 3.

I'm currently obsessed with Forge, I've been building levels more than I've been playing the game. Now if only I had some XBL friends to play my levels with...lol

Also I agree, forerunner and sangheli spin offs would be sweet. For whatever reason Halo is very human focused. I felt like Bungie did this again with Destiny...they created a big universe, but then all you see is the human side of things. If I wanna shoot people I'll play Call of Doody...bring on the aliens!

I thought the campaign was lackluster, tbh fam. Story didn't live up to previous games. Very dissappointed with it. As for the multiplayer, it is solid. Gameplay is basically perfect. Problem with the MP is the fact that there's no social. It's way too competitive focused for my tastes. Warzone is a neat idea but poorly implemented imo.

You got one XD. My gamertag is... Another Locust

    THANK YOU

I'm not a big Halo fan, but I do enjoy it! I haven't played 5 or Halo Wars (I don't like most strategy games aside from Age of Empires), and I don't read the books.
I would say by far the best games are 1-3, because the story is very cohesive and precise. Reach is decent, and the multi-player is fun, but I felt like I was missing something.
But 4 is where I got very confused. I didn't realize you had to find the hidden consoles (forgetting the proper name) to learn about the different characters, and I find that to be poor writing. The only way I understood the story and plot was from asking my younger brother who knows all those details.

I'd be very open to other spin offs that explore the rest of the universe, because I didn't like the whole "Let's find out who the Forerunners are!" (that should have remained a mystery!) ODST was really neat, even if the plot wasn't as strong, the characters and the challenge of not being a Spartan was great!
It would also be very cool to see a story that has a mixture of species as the main characters, like many of you were saying.

You mean terminals, but it doesn't matter. But some of these different characters are worth your time learning about. I was curious about the Forerunners for a while.

Yeah, @Stormagadon, if you're interested in the Forerunners and all that, we highly recommend reading the Forerunner Saga by Greg Bear. Good stuff.

Thanks, I may get around to reading them someday. My younger brother fills me on those details!
Part of my complaint (as a casual gamer) is that Halo 4 doesn't explain things well by itself. To me, that's an issue in writing and story telling. Having references or allusions to past stories are fine, because that gets people interested, but when you have a whole backstory that is crucial to the characters or setting, it becomes a task to understand, and it draws you out of the story. And when you miss the terminals (thanks @Emi Takori!) you miss part of the story.
That's why I enjoy the first three games, because it has a history, but the story isn't dependent on your knowledge of the characters and lore.
    Just my two pence. :)

I can relate as a casual gamer myself who is tired of the competitive focus and lack of diversity.

I understand it's annoying when there isn't enough explained in the game itself in terms of the story. But sometimes if you do choose to invest your time looking at articles, watching terminal videos, you end up not regretting it because it absorbs you. I don't know what made me pick up curiosity in the Ur-Didact, I just went looking for the terminals for the hell of it on my 2nd play through and I was like "wow, information that isn't about humanity for a change or what we've seen in the previous games"

The Sangheili got me into this series first but to be exposed to a part that makes you realize there is more to the universe than you realize. The writing in Halo 4 I'd say is not as bad as it was for Halo 5, because in Halo 4 Chief and Cortana both had more character development.

The Didact had his moments but he becomes a much better character if you know his story. The Librarian only summarizes it. So looking up these things doesn't have to be a chore, nor is your knowledge of the lore critical to understanding the game, you could start up the game and somewhat understand what is happening. I never had any knowledge much to the story until I play through games 1-4 in order almost 2 years ago, even with the 4th game I started with no expectation to know a lot or everything. But I chose to invest my time looking at articles about the Forerunners because I wanted to know more about the universe outside everything to do with Spartans and humanity. Aliens have always caught my attention in any franchise. But I am only saying that sometimes when you do look up a part of Halo that didn't get enough explanation you come to realize that it is actually really interesting and deserves more recognition from the company than it gets.

Because with 343i, anything that isn't human, just doesn't get treated as equally as us.

Cool I will add you. Mine is... Pat Sounds

With the MCC and Halo 5 it was a big year for Halo fans as well as Star Wars fans. Do you think in the future Disney will reform Lucasfilm or make a new branch that exclusively produces Star Wars similar to 343? Would that be a wise idea?

I imagine so. Halo's brand has kinda improved now that every single product has "343" written on it, so I think Star Wars could only benefit.
