HAN SOLO - How bad could it be?!

That doesn't answer the question. You spoke for a lot of people with "None of us (mostly) were super pumped about the idea to begin with.". How did you come to that notion?

 

Okay officer. The answer is general fan vibe picked up from forums, comments sections, podcasts and such. I quantified it with "(mostly)" because I'm assuming some people are totally hype for this. But the general vibe I've picked up is that this movie wouldn't top most people's wish list of spinoff flicks.

 

C'mon, man. If you are gonna promote me, capitalize my new rank!

Joking aside, any of us can find whatever vibe feeds our bias or opinion if we are looking for it. In this forum there are 126 threads with over 3,200 posts discussing the possibilities and rumors about this film. Of those, there are 3 active threads totaling 205 posts debating whether or not this movie is going to be bad. I 100% agree that it does not carry the interest of a saga film, but I definitely wouldn't say that qualifies as an overall negative fan vibe.

 

I would agree that the fan vibe isn't necessarily negative, but it's definitely a bit ambivalent. I don't want to be a downer. I'm all for just enjoying whatever movies we get. But the hype just isn't there for Solo even as much as it was for Rogue One, from all I can tell.

 

I'd imagine that a single trailer will give discussion on this film a shot in the arm.

As is, there simply isn't a ton to talk about right now.

 

The film is going to be just fine. I like the fact that your taking an iconic character and giving him a back story.

 

I'm hoping that this film is good. Ron Howard being involved gives me hope. What's the deal with a trailer? Does anyone know when we'll get one?

 

Maybe that's a new marketing strategy: instead of bringing out to much informations and possible spoilers, there's just NO trailer

 

well, as strategy it's really dangerous. In one hand the fact that there is nothing yet is creating some expectations, which could be good. But i think it could work when there is 95% of the audience waiting for this movie. This movie is (today, as far as we know about it) a movie which we dont know what to expect: not Harrison Ford, the problems during porduction, not really clear what the plot will be about... I think a TRAILER is SO IMPORTANT for this movie! It will give us the new Han Solo, also Lando, the kind of movie it will be, a bit about the plot... and most important, a direction about what to think about the movie! probably is the most important trailer Lucasfilm has ever done...

 

Part of me does, and part of me doesn't want that. I'll take the movie as it is. I just try to imagine that I don't know anything about Han Solo and ascertain whether I enjoyed it or not.

 

Chis Pine didn't just fine as a young Captain Kirk.

 

Oh I loved his Captain Kirk. But we already know what will be the 'thing' when Solo comes out:

"It just doesn't feels like he's Han Solo. I'd take Ford over Alderich everytime"

Next to the obvious: "I didn't feel invested by the new characters, I didn't like the middle part, and it just didn't feel like Star Wars. Which have become true staples of fan critique in this day and age."

We all know how 'we' as a fan community are.

Oh, I don't mind it. I can see Ford's Solo and Alderich's Solo and the 'character' Solo as completely separate things. I can love Alderich's Han Solo even if it isn't the slightest bit as Ford's Solo.

What I'm trying to explain, implicitely, is that if Alderich's Solo is different from Ford's Solo, I - and I guess we all should - recognize that it wouldn't necessarly make Han Solo a bad movie because of it (just like Captain Kirk) However, we both know that despite this many people will hate this movie for exactly this reason. I won't, but unfortunately many will.

We both like McGregor's Obi-Wan, but there were many people who initially (especially after Attack of the Clones) said that they'd rather see McGregor give us his own version of Obi Wan than imitating Guinness.

It is just a staple of audience criticism: whenever an existing character is performed by a new actor instead of the old one, people will complain about it.

 

If Beckett is Snoke, it would be turn out to be a bad film. (Unless they have a good story)

 

Dear god that was one of the worst videos I've ever seen. Talk about a waste of 30 seconds of my life that I'll never get back... Do people actually watch these two fools???

 

What is even the point of a thread like this? Or, dare I say, an *attitude* like this? If you've seen a movie and want to talk about what you didn't like or its perceived flaws, fine, but dogging something before it's even finished being created is a ridiculous waste of energy and, furthermore, what kind of fan are you for not keeping an open mind? I am always willing to change my mind if I'm wrong about something.
