Wooo! Any guesses on the cast? Chris Pratt was rumored to play Indy, so maybe that was supposed to be Han? Or do you think that they go younger?

I think he was younger than that. I remember Lucas saying Han was 35 in Jedi or something like that.

According to wookieepedia he is 29 in ANH.

 

Most dissappointed. Han Solo movie.....the guy is in 4 Star Wars movies. We've sen evything. His journey from a smugglar to a rebel hero. What a lack of originality. They can' t invent new story and new character? Now we gonna see some guy pretending to beHan Solo, trying to do faces and accent of Harrison Ford, and we will see it and we will know - this guy isn' Han Solo. I don' t understand this approachment. If they need so hard to use a known character, theres 20 years hole between 3 and 4 and Ewan is available. I know there' s a lot of those who opens champagne now, but I' m just terribly dissappointed...

 

I disagree, @mecano. This could work very well, depending on what story they tell around Han Solo. It will in all likelyhood be set in the dark times before ANH, and could be use to illuminate life in the galaxy from the common man's (i.e. non-Jedi's) point of view. Of course, they could end up bungling it, but there's no reason to expect they will just because they are going with a Han Solo movie.

I hope Lando is in this somehow And Chewbacca is probably a given.

 

I was sure for some of you the news will be great and I' m happy for you that you enjoy the Han Solo movie. I would welcome same movie, same story with main hero having A Different NAME. Just a smuggler. Not that smuggler.

All the reports are saying that this isn't the film that trank left, but none offer any reason why this is the case. How do we know that this isn't the film that trank left?

I'm with @mecano, I'm not at all excited about seeing the iconic role recast. It's a big universe, aren't there other characters with interesting stories to tell?

All I can think is that Disney must be hedging their bets with the ST. Just in case audiences don't take to the new characters, they will have something with familiar characters to keep people interested in the franchise.

I will still, of course, hope for the best. It might very well turn out to be a great movie. It's just not what I was hoping for from the Anthology Films - but I'm aware that I'm probably in the minority.

 

I think that this movie will be fun, but I REALLY hope that they move into telling stories in an era that does not contain Skywalkers and Solos. KotOR time frame would be sweet.

 

I hope its awesome, I hope Han Solo fans are thrilled.

Personally I could not be less enthused. Back story between III and IV has been explored to death and this just seems like a bad attempt at just reissuing something profitable as quickly and sloppily as possible. Risk aversion, cut and paste brand management to my eyes.

Let's hope that because I'm a self-confessed idiot, that I'm totally wrong and it kicks butt.

 

Definitely agree with this, watched the age of adaline recently and he was really good as a young Harrison ford!

 

I pity whoever is cast as Han. Helluva task. I'm pretty 'meh' about this announcement (as many others are), but I hope it's successful. It's just that... I don't know. Of all of the potential stories to get into they chose one of the most iconic characters of the franchise with the intention of recasting the character? Doesn't seem smart. I hope I'm wrong. I'm sure it'll be all right.
