    Hello my fellow Cantina family!

I've had some spare wood and paint laying around for years and decided to do something creative with it all. I've made it somewhat of a relaxing hobby of mine to create Star Wars vehicles, starships, and droids out of scrap wood in my spare time. Some are of amateur quality but I only grow more skillful in time. It truly is therapeutic, and I'd love to share the droids that I have made so far with this wonderful nerdy family of ours.
I shall be making more in time, but here is the lot so far. You might even see some you recognize as well as my own customized astromechs.
Behind, is an obvious sandcrawler that I've made out of scrap wood as well. It rolls and the door opens and closes as well.

Honest opinions. If I were to sell these, do you think anyone would buy?
    Hope you like!

These look awesome. "Well, come on, Red! Let's go!"

As for selling them, yes, I think it would be worth a shot!

Thank you for your wonderful and positive opinions! They aren't of professional quality or anything, but it's definitely an addiction for me at this point! I'm even planning to construct a chess board with different units of white and black droids to represent the different chess pieces. Wish me luck! (artoo)

So.... these are the droids you're sculpting for ? :)

for my part I wouldn't pay for such a toy, if you want an honest thought (and please don't be hurted by my words. As you asked for an honest, opinion I give you mine as honestly as I can, I strictly don't intend to offend you in any way). Mainly because the painting is not accurate enough to pretend this can be sold.

Anyway, you could sell not painted pieces, and let the buyer paint them himself the way he wants (like you did)... and then, ask your buyers to send you some pics, and then you set up a worldwide contest and then we all see you in the SW celebration next year :)
Jokes aside : if it's kind of therapeutical for you, so CAN it be for others ;)

it's a great hobby you have here, all by yourself. Congrats.

be careful, the main trap in that case, is modeling figures that do not clearly match the chess pieces. Remember you have to clearly model the pieces in order there is no ambiguity about who they are: this one is the King for sure (and not kind of "this one could be the King because it seems to be the biggest one"), this one is the Queen for sure, this one is a Knight, this one is a Rook and these are Bishops, that must be absolutely clear. If you use only R2 units, it will be difficult to identify them, d'you understand? ;)

(edit) that SW chess game sucks (for me):
it is really beautiful, but unplayable: identifying the pieces is absolutely not easy.
What makes Han the Bishop? Otherway, we can admit Yoda on Luke's back is kind of a Knight riding his horse, but in front of them, why an Imperial Guard is also a Knight as he doesn't ride anything to let us think that? Further : if I rely on the positionning, I must say the Emperor is the black Queen (Queen is always on his color!) while Vader is the King... that's weird. In front, it is even weirder: Luke (white on white) is the Queen and Leia seems the King - male/Queen and female/King, that is completely stupid!
Well... I hope you see now, what I mean when I urge you to model something that makes no ambiguity ;) good luck

@daRinze absolutely no offense taken. I'm well aware that these creations are below par compared to the insane talent that the vast majority of other Star Wars fans hold. My dinky art doesn't even compare. Yet, if I saw these on Etsy and I had money to spare, I wouldn't mind spending $5-$10 just to invest in their work and maybe have a handmade craft on my desk at work or something. Regardless, I totally understand what your saying. Most likely these would rarely do a good job selling.

As far as the chessboard, I have taken a lot of thought into the concepts, and you're correct. I appreciate all of your defined insight on the concept! The astromechs used as chess pieces would have to illustrate their function within their shape. Maybe an R1 unit could be a King, as it seems to resemble one already. R2 units could possibly be pawns since they are the most abundant. Mouse droids could be used for pawns as well. certain rocket shaped R3 units could be bishops. R5 units would definitely fit the profile of a Rook if altered to have a castle appeal. As far as the other pieces go, I'm at a loss. If you have any suggestions feel free!

Well... Star Wars is not related to chess, and chess is not related to Star Wars.
So, one have to find a simple bridge between these 2 worlds: either "star war-ize" a chess game, or "chessize" a Star Wars game. If you only use SW characters (like the pic I put above) I will tell you : it's difficult to identify the pieces. If (on the other side) you use ony chess pieces, it will be difficult to identify them as SW characters, right?

So, the solution is in the middle (the solution is the Bendu - oooops, sorry). For me (and this is just m.h.o), the best way is to use SW characters, and bring them the appropriate chess identification that works worldwide. Let's rely on this:

first. Size matters. The King is always the tallest one - then comes the Queen - then the Bishop, the Knight and the Rook are quite equals in height - finally comes the Pawn who is smaller than everyone. Rely on this.

second. Each one his own attributes. The King has a crown, or something over his head that symbolizes the crown, while the Queen also has something over his head that is not a crown (see the pic above: the King gets something like a crest on the top of his head, while the Queen only wears a little ball) The Bishop has an olive-shaped head in mainly all the chess games all over the world - deal with it! The Knight always looks like a horse, quite difficult to relate with SW... The Rook has a crenellated head. And the pawn is smaller than everyone and only a ball symbolizes his head.

    Among this set:
    I would suggest:
R4 for Bishop (slightly emphasize a little bit the olive-shaped head),
R5 for Rook (slightly emphasize the head shape),
R6 for Knight (dare to add two ears or a muzzle! use an AT-AT or AT-ST for the black side).
R2 (-D2 of course) for Queen and King, it cannot be something else ;) just make them tallest than the others, and dare to plug an antenna on their head in order to clearly show the King with his crown, and the Queen with no crown.
Any droid can embody a pawn, if it simply is smallest than everyone.

I figured I should post my Etsy page here selling my miniature astromechs. I'm not selling the ones I made before since I didn't believe they would sell. I've spent time making better quality droids to sell recently and today I just opened up shop selling the new Droid Minis. I don't have much confidence they will sell, but in order to get the money back I invested in making them and making some kinda profit...I've gotta try.
I've taken all criticisms, hints, and suggestions from you Cantina family members into serious consideration and will continue to do so.
    So here's my Etsy page.
There will be more to come as well.
