But do you see him surviving the trilogy?
    It's the single-most important question.

If Ben is killed at the end of the trilogy, it doesn't really matter what his name is.

Sort of Darth Vader saying "That name no longer has any meaning for me!" about being called Anakin.

he'll survive. his arc has to be different from Vader's.

and even though he's rejected the Ben name for now, he will come back to it if he's redeemed.

I think it's a bit of a stretch. I don't think he can atone for what he's done without losing his own life.

he's done no worse than Vader. but yes, Vader gave up his life. again, i think Ben's arc has to be different.

    besides:

Han forgave him. Leia will too. it doesn't feel like a stretch to me.

    Now I'm curious.
IF Ben/Kylo survives to continue the Skywalker name (I dont' know why he would adopt his grandfather's name)... what role does Rey have?
Will Rey die to save him?

the way this should play out to my mind is that Ben and Rey are dark/light opposites. instead of all of this trying to destroy one another, they're going to realize that balance means balance (i.e., that both sides must coexist in harmony).

they'll end up as guardians/gatekeepers/whatever together.

I think there's enough darkness in the galaxy to balance the scales, without the need for Sith/Dark Jedi.

Glad you think so, I was waiting for him to the break the glass ceiling with her but it never happened I thought it would have happened with Leia at the end but again missed opportunity.

You know, I had a VERY similar theory to this one. For two reasons:

    1) The very convenient presence of the Millenium Falcon at Jakku, just chilling and unbothered, for heaven knows how long, after we're told it got stolen twice. I should point out that, in the novel, Rey remarks that Han claiming that the Falcon was stolen from him came off "forced"

    2) I don't buy any of the explanations as to why Luke went into hiding if not for self-protection. He refused to fight Darth Vader when he had only known he was his father for a few months. I don't think he would have given up on his nephew that easily, specially because Ben was being creeped on by Snoke from a very young age. The dark side basically took advantage of a child. So no, I don't think he was hiding out of shame or guilt. I think he was trying not to be captured by the First Order. Because he had someone to train, someone who could stop or redeem Kylo and therefore right his (Luke's) wrong.

(there's actually a third reason that I hadn't considered before, but this article did, and it fits perfectly with all of this: Han did take her exactly to where the light saber was. Refresh my memory, please: what was the given reason for them to go there?)

The basic differences between this theory and mine is that I think there's a particular reason why Luke thought Rey was the only one who could pull Kylo back to the light. Otherwise, Luke himself could have done it, right? What Luke experienced first hand was his own father turning his back to the dark side because of his love for him, his son. Maybe Luke believes it takes a very strong bond to save someone from the dark side. Like the bond of two siblings, which is something that what cousins share doesn't even come close to.

I'm second guessing this theory because I can't shake off the feeling that Kylo dropped her off at Jakku. But the explanation that maybe Unkar owed Han something makes sense. I also can't decide whether or not Leia knew about this arrangement or not. I really struggle to imagine Han and Luke keeping from her such a huge thing as making her niece/daughter virtually disappear.
