Senator Padmé Amidala is arrested and sentenced to death by King Henré of Naboo, for her part in Chancellor Palpatine's rise to power as the new Emperor of the Galactic Empire!

The Empire captures an elderly Obi-Wan Kenobi and sentences him to death!

On his days off, Grand Moff Tarkin liked to experiment with dead things and bring them back to life!

Grand Moff Tarkin wasn't all bad. He hated Sith Lords and managed to defeat the evil Count Dooku!

I had an experience that to this day I am not sure what it was, but several years ago I was asleep on the couch. I left the tv on and I woke around 11:30pm. When I did I looked down at the end of the couch to a shadow looking figure just starting at me. After maybe a minute it turned and went down the hall.

I can't say for sure if when I woke up that my brain just invented this or it really was what I saw. It didn't try to hurt me, nor did even speak. Just turned and left.

How was it round your way last night?

It was really polarised in our corner of Pompey. We had a 100% drop in door-knocking visitors compared to 2016, but a friend two streets away had the pumpkins outside his house taken and smashed over his car, which wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the wax and scorch marks the candles left on his paintwork.

Putting pumpkins outside your house is just asking for trouble. It's like an invitation to idiots and beggars.

Hallowe'en isn't popular in England, most people actually hate, ignore and avoid it. Except those with young families with very small children. A recent UK-wide Government survey also confirms the loathing of Hallowe'en: https://yougov.co.uk/news/2013/10/31/who-knew-britain-hates-halloween/

Hallowe'en is perceived in England as a tacky, vulgar, commercialised, foreign import which entitles greedy and aggressive kids and teenagers without costumes (maybe a few might wear a token cheap plastic "scary" mask) to go thumping and kicking on front doors of ALL houses and demand treats with threats of violence or vandalism.

Because Hallowe'en was also originally a Catholic celebration (All Hallows Evening), it never really caught on in earlier Protestant/Anglican England. Other parts of the British Isles with Celtic/Gaelic/Pagan roots gave Hallowe'en (or Samhain) much more importance than it had in England. Scotland and Ireland invented much of the present-day traditions of modern day Hallowe'en, with Scottish/Irish migrants to North America taking their traditions with them, such as the Scottish tradition of "guising" (Trick Or Treat-ing). The Irish "Jack O'Lantern" was originally a carved-out turnip, but as no wild turnips existed in North America, they instead carved out pumpkins which they found there and it became a new tradition.

A much more popular event in Anglo-Saxon England existed called Bonfire Night (or "Guy Fawkes Night") on November 5th and was far more important to the English population as it originated as a national celebration of thanksgiving to defeating a Catholic terrorism plot to blow up Parliament in 1605 ("The Gunpowder Plot") and also a good excuse to let off fireworks, burn big bonfires with effigies of hate-figures, and to get drunk. It also coincided at the end of harvest time, a bit like Samhain which also has bonfires and may have influenced the November 5th bonfire tradition.

Sadly, in more recent years, Bonfire Night has become very over- regulated with excessive strict "Health And Safety" laws because of the fear of injury caused by home fireworks and bonfires. Sales of fireworks to the public has been made deliberately difficult or impossible.

Instead, "safe and organised" local "community" events are now sadly the normal thing to go and pay to watch. But thats if you can find a local event as many communities no longer have a Bonfire Night event because of injury paranoia and fear of "upsetting" populations of settled migrants and recently arrived immigrants. The traditional burning of a effigy of Guy Fawkes or the Pope on the bonfire has now also been deemed "politically incorrect" by overly sensitive younger liberal generations who seem to lack the most basic of English cultural and historic information of why Bonfire Night even exists.

Younger generations with families have begun to adopt the US version of Hallowe'en, but they do it in a very half-assed and unenthusiastic way, its done just to please little kids who demand it after watching so many imported US tv shows which feature Hallowe'en in them and perceive that version of Hallowe'en as normal.

That's unfortunate...it's supposed to be a fun and joyful experience that is generally regarded as a fond childhood memory. It's too bad that some can't see that for what it's supposed to be...for the children.

We had over 100 Trick-or-Treaters last night, and it was a tremendous amount of fun in our neighborhood.

Yeah, for the most part it is a fun thing for folks to have a goofy time. There are of course the ones that wanna ruin it for others, but they are few and far between. Can't let them dictate the night. I don't like Halloween for reasons regarding my faith and I hate the traditional imagery, but I do let my kids pick a fun costume (my boys have deemed themselves too old for it now and my 5 year old girl was a dinosaur) and I don't mind the gathering of some candy. It's meant to be for fun, so I ignore the bits I don't dig and have fun with the rest.
