I was watching A Perfect Man tonight and realized Liev Schreiber would make an excellent young Han Solo (early 30s).

He's almost 50 though, which could be a problem if you want to potentially use his character multiple times as a younger man.

Liev Schrieber always seems to me like he's doing Dustin Hoffman in the same way that Christian Slater does Jack Nicholson. I really like both Schreiber and Slater, but I can never watch them and not notice those similarities.

Han Solo would be a very difficult part to recast. Harrison Ford has more of that old-school Hollywood male lead sort of presence - the understated kind of cool that Steve McQueen and Robert Mitchum had in their prime. You just don't get that from very many modern actors. Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt, for instance... I've seen both names bandied about as possible choices for a recast version of Indiana Jones, and I really like both of them as actors in general. But neither one has the right kind of presence to fill Harrison Ford's shoes. Both of them just have too much of that former frat boy vibe about them for me to buy them as Indiana Jones or Han Solo.

Honestly, I'm not sure WHO I'd cast. I think that just about anyone you put in either of those classic Ford roles is going to pale by comparison.

I know a lot of people think it would be sacrilege to cast a younger Han Solo, but, keep in mind, if they do as good of a job as they did with Obi-Wan and Ewan McGregor, I think people would be pretty happy about it.

Harrison Ford will always be the one Han Solo no matter who carries on the role after him.

It's not so much about sacrilege as it is about Hollywood tending toward a very different kind of leading man these days than what we saw back in the day. I honestly just don't see that any of the names who have been bandied about in these recast rumors are going to do justice to the roles of either Han Solo or Indiana Jones. IMHO, they're going to have to go really deep into the bench in order to have any hope of making either of these recasts work.

For Han Solo, it would have to be someone who not only looks the part of a young Harrison Ford, but can also act the part of a young Harrison Ford.
As for Indiana Jones, I still like the Bond approach, just using new actors for new stories. So if we get Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, or even Karl Urban for Indy 5, I'd be happy.
But for a young Han Solo, I really have no idea. I like the Anthony Ingruber...
I'm sure you've seen this video as it's from 2008.

Karl Urban MAYBE. Pratt and Cooper, though... I'm sure I've said this before, but they're the kind of modern-day Hollywood leading actors who remind me way too much of Mr. Backslapping Account Manager from the sales department at work. And that's good for certain kinds of roles, but I just don't see the aging frat boy d**che vibe really working for the Indiana Jones character.

IMHO, Daniel Craig works well as James Bond because he projects that old-school gravitas that the character needs. Indiana Jones is very similar in that regard. Not that I'm saying that Craig would work as Indy, mind you. But the character needs an actor with that kind of innate cool. Bradley Cooper, for example, is very good at doing comedy schtick with Zach Glackafrackagreekus, no question about it. But as Indiana Jones I think he would fall way short of the mark. Pratt even moreso.

    I agree with that 100%.
What do you think of Anthony Ingruber?

Y'know, I'm still on the fence about him. As somebody who has always enjoyed doing vocal impressions, I got a big kick out of Ingruber's Han Solo bit on YouTube. But the problem is, I've never actually seen him act before. IF he has the acting chops to go with his skill at doing that Han Solo impression, I think he could be a good choice. Judging by the photos at his IMDB page, he certainly has a look that isn't that far off of a young Harrison Ford.

But again, for me it's all about whether he is a solid enough actor to turn that impression into a compelling version of the character. It's one thing to put a character on from the outside like a costume - which is what doing an impression of somebody generally tends to be. "Good against the living... that's something else."

Cooper has been nominated for 2 best actors in the past 2 years so I'm not sure I share the sentiment that he's only great in the Hangover. Watch American Sniper. He's brilliant in it. Pratt's would have to be silly though.

He will be a young version of Harrison Ford's character in this movie.

Lots of people get nominated for best actor/actress Oscars. It doesn't mean they are the right type for every single role out there. I've seen Cooper in a number of movies (not particularly interested in the Sniper hype, though) and again... I like him as an actor just fine. But he's a certain kind of actor, and IMHO the character of Indiana Jones needs a different type.

Liev Schreiber wouldn't be a bad choice. He's a little old though, which may hinder his chances. If they're going young for Han, then I believe Garret Hedlund would be an excellent choice.

Anthony Ingruber, if a good actor for real (we'll see in The Age of Adaline) should be signed for life on the future SW projects.

There's only one Harrison Ford and I'm not sure i've seen a single actor today that has the look, sound, and acting chops necessary to pull off Han Solo.

Like said before, Ingruber. The man just needs to have good to great reviews for his first major screen role, and if he does well, he needs to be on Disney's radar. I mean, c'mon don't confuse people with two different looking guys with Harrison and some other actor when you have a near identical guy waiting for his moment to shine!

Pratt was in zero dark thirty as one of the SEAL team 6 operators. He can play it straight. But if I had to pick between cooper and Pratt I think cooper could a convincing adventurer and archeologist. I certainly couldn't picture Pratt in the classroom giving lectures on Michaelson chapters 4 and 5
