I think new SW movies will always change previous ones. Sometimes for good, sometimes not.
Perspectives are different (and the process of filmaking) and sometimes change the way of things you had seen before.
And this world of SW, where continuously are adding aspects of the past influencing the future, it's difficult not to have some minor contradictions or inconsistencies.

The connections with ANH are really really great (couldn't be better i must say) but yestarday i watched it (ANH) and i thought it hasn't the epicness that RO suggested. Blowing the Death Star seems a minor battle of that war, although now we know it was hard to get those plans (now, here, and i'm not believeing what I say, Lucas Special Edition additions in ANH has more consistence)
That's why I think sometimes it's weird, if you know what I mean.
Sorry, my english (not my first language) probably is not quite good to explain my real thoughts ;) I'm trying to explain the best I can.

The already excellent ANH was, IMHO, further improved by RO. More cultural context, side character development, and backstory expansion only ups the ante for ANH. I watched it within an hour after seeing RO in the movie theater, and ANH now feels bigger and even more tense.

Yes. Vader's dialogue at the beginning of ANH..
    1. "Don't act so surprised your highness, you weren't in any mercy mission this time, Several transmissions were beamed to the ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you"
    2. "I've traced the Rebel spies to her. Now is my only link to find their secret base"
    3. "There'll be no one to stop us this time"

It makes ANH more exciting, to know what happened moments before that famous opening crawl appeared was important, it made RO move us into OT in a positive way.

English is not my first language too! (Spanish)...You made it perfect! And I think Gareth Edwards pays Homage to Lucas Special Edition here...And it worked!

I wonder, too, how this will make people view the prequels- because, in many ways, this is now the cinematic missing link between the prequels and OT, at least for now. There was far more prequel fanservice in Rogue One than in TFA, and certain scenes such as Vader's even have musical homages to the prequels. I wonder if this affects people positively in light of the often hated PT.

I emphasized this a couple of times already, but ABSOLUTELY YES, in a very positive way. Gives context to the whole story and we get to see how reckless the rebels actually are to reach their goals. I also really liked the political aspects of R1. There are just as much politics in that movie as in the PT, just done way better (imo).
Although I think rewatching ANH directly after R1 would be little bit weird experience, as ANH is much smaller and way less spectacular.

"Rogue One" enhanced the dramatic urgency of the Death Star storyline in "Star Wars," but it still couldn't overcome the utter inanity and disappointment of a second Death Star in ROTJ. And the ease at which the Starkiller Base was destroyed was incredibly lame in light of the effort and sacrifice it took to take down the original Death Star.

    Neither.

It's a good movie, and I've enjoyed three screenings to this date, but it does a really poor job leading into ANH and somebody should be fired for that in my opinion.

In order to get the whole ending sequence to work with EP IV we first need to imagine Tantive IV coming late into battle, then dock to the disabled mon calamari cruiser when all other rebel ships have retreated to Yavin, then enter hyper space to Tatooine to pick up Obi-Wan and get him to Alderaan for some reason, instead of joining the rest of the fleet at Yavin and deliever the plans. It's not making much sense.

I agree with this completely. I also think showing Vader so powerful and wrathful this close to ANH doesnt help the lightsaber battle with Obi Wan. That continues to look silly in the context of other films.

I finally have a FULL sense of how dangerous things were. How brutal this was. How close to things Leia was. How important every single thing is.

Don't you worry one bit. By Episode 9 the First Order will have this whole planet killing super weapon figured out no problem.

Well... The Rebel troopers were not actually Jedi, were they? And they weren't either the ones who almost killed you and left you for dead. I would be cautious LOL.

Also if we think of what Ahsoka did to him in Rebels Season 2, and she was his apprentice, of course he would be cautious with his former master.

Positive. Many rebels died and gave their lives in heroic sacrifice. Luke turns the deathstar into stardust. Very appropriate.

Exactly! If you thought the team would come through unscathed, then, as a wise man once said, you've not been paying attention. But the execution of the ending... wow.

And, for me, it does somewhat enhance IV. Not that IV needed any enhancing.

So although most everyone we follow through R1 dies, the movie does a solid to the Star Wars Galaxy in enhancing the universe. Here's how I see it:

    1) Rogue One makes Vader's first appearance in ANH even more terrifying. For those of us who grew up with ANH as our intro to Star Wars, his ANH intro on the Tantive IV, while imposing, instilled more curiosity ("who is this bad guy in a plastic suit?") than fear. Now, after Rogue One's Vader kicking ass scene, we know the Tantive IV troops waiting for Vader's arrival at the start of ANH must be crapping their Alliance issued space undies. It also makes Leia more bad ass since she is very insubordinate toward Vader even though she likely knows how deadly he is. Rogue One reestablishes and enhances Vader's persona as a bad ass MF'er (as opposed to how the PT arguably un-enhanced Vader as a whiny brooding dummy).

    2) Rogue One gives the pilots who survived the assault above Scariff more significance. Re-watching ANH after Rogue One, I now felt more for Red Leader and the other dude who was in R1 when Vader blasts them at the end of ANH.

    3) Rogue One gives us more planets, places and mystical people including Jeddah, the Guardians of the Whills, Saw's warriors, and Vader's Castle. If these things, don't get re-visited in future movies I will be surprised and disappointed. All were really cool and intriguing.

    4) After seeing Rogue One, I was even more excited when Luke managed to blow up the Death Star. Like Galen, Jyn and the gang were smiling from Force Heaven at Luke. I felt like Luke cemented their heroic sacrifice for the galaxy.

I'm sure there are other ways that Rogue One enhances ANH and other Star Wars movies. Please add your own thoughts!
