Good post but I think this is currently under discussion in another thread.

Am I excommunicatable for wanting Disney to release the OT in a dual version boxset featuring both the best original negative scans they can get (omg that special edition color grading needs to goooooo) and versions of the films with all effects shots redone to Rogue One level magic?
I know it will never happen and would cost 2 arms and 2 legs (hurr hurr) but tell me that wouldn't be the Wampas furball.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I would buy them for the 40th Anniversary 4K Blu-Ray box set just as you describe.

I would actually love this and think it would actually be very valuable as a tool for understanding the growth in film making and story telling

Franky, I thought it really enhances ANH. The tie-ins with ANH was great, I watched it this weekend immediately following seeing RO. Knowing all these people died to get that one disk in the hands of Leia, really enhances the danger for the galaxy in ANH.

I don't think Rogue One makes The Original SW a better movie, simply because it's perfect to begin with. :) But I will say that Jyn's father designing the flaw in the Death Star on purpose was a good plot point in Rogue One, as that seemed to be the only criticism of the movie through the years.

I don't know if it's positive or negative, but ANH does seem more ironic/comical in light of RO. I mean Jyn and company sacrificed their lives to steal the DS plan, but then Luke and Obi-Wan unwittingly brought the plan back to the Empire when the Falcon got pulled into the Death Star.

As a hard core original trilogy fanatic.....never thought anything could approach ANH. I was wrong. I was blown away by R1, now I cannot ever read the 2nd paragraph of the ANH opening crawl ever again without choking up with pride on what they did in R1 to get those plans. I am a retired 52 yr old US Air Force Officer, a military historian (love WWII and US Civil War), and war movie fanatic - I can tell you the final battle on Scarif ranks up there with anything I have seen. Love Cassian Andor's character and Jyn as well......the pep talk in the shuttle before they landed on Scarif was awesome - "Light the Place Up.....Make 10 Men Feel Like a Hundred"......

It sure impacted in a positive way going into new hope, showing us that the Yavin battle wasn't the only big battle that happened in that timeline.

I think Rogue One really improved A New Hope. I loved all the little references to it, even though A New Hope isn't my favorite. I also liked how the ending added to Princess Leia' sass. It's like someone gets caught speeding, and they know they were speeding, but they still lie about it anyway. :)

I voted makes no difference, but it sure does make Leia look like a moron. I personally think ANH is a better movie without it (so no head canon for Rogue One) but I don't think it really "spoils" anything.

I feel that R1 really improved the whole saga. By better establishing Vader's dangerousness (which, to me, only emphasizes the fact that he was being very cautios with Obi-Wan in ANH and was just toying with Luke, and testing him, in TESB) but also by giving the audience a better sense, a deeper perspective of who the 'good guys' are and what, and why, they're fighting for.
Not that any of these elements NEEDED to be enhanced, but it's nice to have more tension and more emotional investment there.

I also think Rogue One did a good job bridging the OT and PT eras - at least, in terms of small details about design and visual and musical themes - and in bringing togheter various EU elements: small things like Chopper's "cameo" or Hera being mentioned, or bigger aspects like Saw Gerrera's character, really help "legitimize" ancillary material like TCW and Rebels.

She was there to collect the plans, how else were we doing to see this.

The OT sort of made it come across as a more cloak and dagger thing, they had passed through a restricted system (no mention of battle, just passed directly through) and spies had beamed the plans aboard. As I'm sure I'm not the first to nitpick, the fact that they now shoot their way out of a huge battle from where they are directly chased, Leia's protestations of innocence and that she's on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan sound kind of silly. Vader literally watches the plans be handed off onto the Tantive IV and flee the scene of the crime.

It was a plan that had to play out that way, not every character has to be given a update on how the plans were retrieved, this war would bring sacrifices, she had to play her part for as long as possible before the game would be up.

Well whether she knew the plans had been passed through the door while Vader watched or not, she still knew they fled and were chased directly from the battle.
