There are certain things you don't bring back in a SW movie:

    -Ewoks

    -Jar Jar Binks

    -Hayden Christensen/Jake Lloyd

That would be great if true.

Maybe a flashback in which we learn how Anakin constructed his lightsaber. It seems that kyber crystals will have important role in ST. According to rumors, Anakin's kyber crystal is special.

Also force ghost would be nice to.

Ok look; I've been quietly hoping (as I've said in other threads) for an Anakin Force Ghost....there are so many possibilities. The guidance, fatherly advice, and insight that could be gleaned from the appearance of the character could be wonderful.

NOW, there are some that have crucified Hayden regarding the PT Anakin performance, and you have to remember that 90% of that performance was script and direction, because there are brilliant actors that've had bad movies because of those things. I vote that we say "What the hell" and give him a shot without any preconceived notions. Yes I know it's hard based on his prior performance, but we need to be big enough to step back and just watch FIRST, then critique'.

I'm all for it (if you haven't noticed) because it would (IMHO) add deeper element and meaning to a scene where (let's say) Rey is learning, and perhaps struggling (like Luke did) just to have Anakin appear and offer council...or something like that.

Trevor, I have a horrible time accepting the whole Anakin force ghost thing...especially a young "pre-youngling mass murder" Anakin...so question: what can he possibly contribute to the welfare and development of a young jedi that cannot be learned from Master Yoda, Qui-Gon, or Obi Wan, other than a case study of what not to do? I understand the second hand wisdom of learning from his mistakes, but lets face it, Anakin was not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I call BS. Since Luke will be a supporting character there's no reason for us to see any force ghosts.

Honestly, you provide valid points one and all. My take is this:

Anakin, while most of his life as Vader has a deeper understanding of the Force (IMHO) than Kenobi or Yoda BECAUSE he lived in both worlds, then in the end, came back from the dark side...and essentially can tell us (or them) all about it.

Frankly, Kenobi and Yoda both could learn from it because they understood the dividing line (from the light side perspective) and what was just on the other side, but Anakin was immersed in it....completely. I think he has a lot of knowledge to convey.

Young Anakin totally negates what happened in ROTJ, and its amazing to me that Lucas never figured out he contradicted the same movie he wrote!

-It was OLD Anakin that was conflicted all through out ROTJ

-It was OLD Anakin that sensed Luke when The Emperor didn't.

-It was OLD Anakin who threw The Emperor and saved his son.

By having Young Anakin appear as a Force Ghost, Lucas was saying that Anakin died on Mustafar and he was 100% Vader after that. But he's wrong as shown in the movie because Luke knew that if there was even 1% of the good Anakin still in that suit, then he would end up saving his son.

This is why its a bad idea to have Young Anakin in the ST (putting aside the fans bias against Hayden) because it lessens the whole story of ROTJ.

As a Force ghost? No. Too much controversy surrounding his addition to RotJ.

Maybe...just maybe...he would make sense in a Maz flashback, if she does have visions as the rumors suggest. Or maybe he could appear in a holocron. Kylo Ren is quite the fanboy, so he may have collected some holocrons from Anakin's pre-Vader days. Those are two possibilities I could see the fans accepting more than him as a Force ghost.

Seeing your perspective as I see it, I agree fully on the principle.

My perspective, is that IF there's going to be some intervention (of sorts) from the netherworld, is that (based on the story that has led us here) an appearance from Anakin should be included because our new arc is still rooted firmly in the fact that he existed and is a legendary figure. With that being said, here's our dilemma:

Our original OT Anakin (which I agree) was Sebastian Shaw....and he died over 20 years ago.
    Do we:
    • Have Sebastian Shaw CGI'd so we can lambaste it?
    • Have a Sebastian "look-alike" reprise the role in which we won't have the same "connect"?
    • Have Hayden reprise his role?
In my book, if we have an Anakin appearance (which I think we should have) our only real option is Hayden, representing his younger self before he was twisted and distorted (in every manner) by the dark side...that's just me. :)

This assumes the mechanics of force ghosting though. Who is to say that a force ghost reflects your physicals elf when you die. Perhaps the person themself chooses their appearance in the physical realm and Annakin chooses to appear as he was before he fell down the "dark path". He wants to reflect a best possible version of himself.

That's my guess. Anakin will return in some kind of flashback that is relevant to the story in episode 8. Maybe he'll be constructing that lightsaber that everybody seems to be after in the ST. I'd prefer this over a force ghost. Although the idea of Anakin being someone that's there for Rey as a friend/mentor sounds pretty cool though. I just want his role to be minimal.

Well for one Anakin could be Rey's grandfather. He has the experiences and mistakes that he can tell Rey not to do. He can be like a father figure, mentor type character

Most importantly. He is the only person who can explain what it feels like to be successfully seduced to the darkside. That insight could be of great use to someone who was losing themselves to that temptation.

I like the idea of ghost Anakin/Vader coming to Kylo Ren (possible grandson) and warning him of the folly of joining the dark side. I imagine a scene where he first appear as he did before he was in the suit, and then transforms into his burned/damaged self, showing Kylo Ren what the dark side would eventually do to him.

My $$$ is on Anakin being more than a force ghost in EPVIII...
If the force can create life, who says it cannot resurrect as well? If done right, it could be awesome.

IMO, The Anakin character is one of the better characters in science-fiction...it be almost wrong for Disney not to include him in one way or another considering the Episodes is The Skywalker family story,

But then you ask why Kenobi picked to looked like an old guy while Anakin picked to be a young 20's something guy as a Force Ghost? It's bad enough Obiwan is a big liar in the OT, now he thinks a 60 year old Alec Guiness is better looking then a 30 year old Ewan McGregor? :p

Well, Luke only knew him as the old guy. If he suddenly transformed into his younger self. Luke would be like "you were great in Trainspotting but what the hell are you doing on Dagobah?"

This is the worst news about the ST that I read so far (if its true). Hayden in one of the movies as a force ghost or in a flashback sequence...some things or characters must be forgotten for the benefit of this ST.

Anakin (hayden/Lloyd), Mace Windu, Jar Jar Binks, Padme (from AOTC and ROTS), midiclhorians, etc....

Heeeeeey, I liked Mace Windu!! ;)

Also, IMO Padme needs to (at least) have a mention because she is Luke and Leia's mother....for the sake of nostalgia.

I like it. Sebastian Shaw is gone...Hayden is still here. Lets use him. Lets use Ewan too, while were at it.
I've got no love for the PT...but I have zero problem using the actors. They are all pretty good actors.
