So now that a bunch of plot leaks have been confirmed, I find myself to be a little worried about Luke's role in this new film.

Who was it that leaked the info about the pub, "Rose", Captain Phasma, etc?

MSW? Well MSW claims that Luke will be in the last shot of the film... I definitely haven't been waiting 15 years to see Luke in one shot of Episode 7.... I hate to be pessimistic, but that will definitely be disappointing to me.

There are plenty of reasons why it may not be true. However, even if true, I imagine you'll see a lot more of him in Episode 8. Just have to wait another 2 years...

It was reported long time ago that Episode 7 was going to be Harrison Ford's movie. Maybe Ep8 will be Mark Hamill's time to shine :)

I would love for it not to be true, but in the same token, you don't sacrifice the story for fan service. Kasdan and Abrams and whoever else was involved in the process created a story that hopefully that are happy with and feel it's worth telling, and it shouldn't be compromised because the fans want to see more Luke.
    The story is paramount.

Based on what Hamill has said in interviews, the old cast is really there to hand the story off to the new cast, not to take center stage.

It might be safe to expect Luke to be featured in this trilogy as much as Obi-wan was in the original trilogy - present - but not the lead player.

I've said it before and I'll say it again-I want a good story from JJ and Kasdan. Everything else will fall into place if there's a solid base for the new trilogy. It's sort of like being a fan of a particular sports team, you root for the laundry. I root for a good Star Wars movie. Characters come and go, but the story is the foundation for it all.

It will be chill either way as far as I am concerned. If he has suitable screen time in TFA then yeah that's great but if he is only in one scene then he gets great build up from TFA and pretty much a whole movie to himself as far as OT cast is concerned in VIII.

This is what I'm more concerned about for Luke's rumored screen time. Because if it's short in this movie I'm sure it will be more in one or both of the next. But if Han dies as rumored then there won't be much of a chance for Luke and Han interaction

To be fair, a Luke and Han goodbye may never have been in the cards for ROTJ either if Han died there too.

I have been trying to insert Luke in a missing scene based on MSW information, but I just don't see where he would fit without a major overhaul of the third act of the movie. It's still possible that the MSW version is not the final product considering Mr. Ward himself says that he only describes the making of the film (I know, I know).

The evidence is definitely pointing towards Luke being in the final scene of the film!

I completely understand. But let's be real, J.J has been very secretive about this whole film, even at this point we have only a very vague look at what the film is going to be like. If you think about it, everything we've seen is basically just a build up from the first teaser. For a movie that's probably going to be at least two hours long, there are going to be ALOT of things that we haven't seen yet in the film. In fact, we have only seen a very small minority of what is going to be in it. Heck, we haven't even gotten any dialogue from the new characters other than the voice over for the first teaser. Confusion is really just a natural part of the faze we are currently in until we get closer to the movie's release. Up until this point we only had a tiny clue who any of the announced characters were going to be. But with each release of new info, we start to understand what has been announced more, but it also opens the door for more questions. Believe me when I say that there are colossal amounts of surprises that are in store for us in regards of TFA. I can guarantee you that Luke will be in the film for enough time to quench most of our thirst. His time on screen may be limited, but they will not leave us hanging.

Well, from what we hear and see... I think the central character of the new trilogy will be Rey... with Poe & Finn as members of the new dynamic trio.

Luke & Vader will play important roles in the movie... but "implied"... as legends...

I think we might see more of Luke in Episode VIII as the new Obi Wan to Rey's character. The search of Skywalker seems to be what drives Episode 7, implying he is the MacGuffin, and might only have a scene or two... the more I think about ot, the more it makes sense he will only be in a scene + a couple using a lookalike as a double (in the flashback scenes).

Han is most likely to take the central spot... the more we learn from the relationship between him and his son (Kylo Ren)... it becomes the core of this new movie and the genesis of the new most hated villain in cinematic history.

I think MSW is thinking of ROTS where Luke was in just one scene. ;) In all seriousness just relax because you're going to have 3 movies of Luke Skywalker! They've said all along this movie is about the new generation which sounds like a stiff arm right in the face of avid OT fans but I think the way they present the OT cast is going to be amazing and at the end of TFA it sounds like it'll be like in the trailer where the last shot is Han and everyone starts crying. I didn't need to see a whole trailer of Han Solo being all old and stuff. One shot was perfect. In the Millennium Falcon. With Chewie. I think it'll be similar with Luke. It'll be the cliffhanger for Episode VIII.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the report is misguided or that MSW has been misled.

If the movie is good, no one will care how much Luke is or isn't in it. I'm betting he will have more than one scene, but I won't be upset if he doesn't. Honestly, it's probably better that he have a small role. It would not serve the movie to be over stuffed with major characters.

The most important thing with TFA is that the new characters are good enough we don't need to have old ones on screen all the time to make movie interesting.

I do, however, think there's still something we don't know about Luke - some reason we haven't seen him, and why his hand is no longer covered in fake flesh.

Jason Ward did say we would be asking "where's Luke?" when all the marketing hype starts. Finding Luke will be central to the plot. His reveal is on of the the biggest, most important aspects of the story that must be protected. Luke will be mentioned throughout the movie, but not seen until the end. Luke's role in coming back to the galaxy to help our new friends will be the cliffhanger. We will all be like, I want to see Episode 8 NOW!

Not necessarily. MSW stuff is all speculation based off of concept art and shot list with vague description.
He says that Lupita is named Rose and she's a former jedi at Lukes Academy who runs a pub. Today we learned she's not named Rose and she's pirate.
On Luke I'm still not convinced he's just in one scene. We know for fact he filmed at Skellig and we know for fact he filmed at pinewood. We know Luke is in the trailer with R2 and thanks to a behind the scenes photo from celebration we can determine that is Hamill in the scene based on hand comparison

We all knew Rose wasn't her name. Just like "Evil Castle" will not be the name of the First Order hidden base. Just because she's hanging with pirates doesn't mean she isn't someone from Luke's past. She's may have been a Jedi, she may just be force sensitive. We don't know.

Now where has it been confirmed that Mark Hamill was the hand in trailer? Or the behind the scenes picture? We don't know for a fact he filmed at Pinewood. We know he was there. That's it. We know he filmed at Skellig because he said so.
