SPECULATION Here's my crazy idea on why purple was chosen for the logo: balance.

    Assuming you know your colors, blue and red make purple. In Star Wars, colors help tell a little bit about character story. The use of a red saber and black clothing (obviously they're exemptions) are reserved for the bad guys. The good guys blue, green and the outlier purple while wearing light/grey color clothing. The use of red was a huge part of the marketing for TLJ. I'm not saying that now purple is gonna be put everywhere like TLJ was. All I'm implying is that using purple, it wasn't because JJ thought it was a cool color to use for logo. It's about balance between the two extremes: powerful light, powerful darkness mixed together you get a metaphor for whatever the use of purple means for TROS.

    I think you're right. Didn't thought about the purple colour like you did. Blue + Red = Purple.
    Maybe that's a hint for something we will see later in the movie. Rey and Kylo (purple) vs. KOR for example.

    I don't get it. TFA used yellow, TLJ used red and this is plain blue, at least on my screen. I believe this particular blue is called cornflower in english.

    Even if the logo was indeed purple, my humble opinion is that you're overanalyzing things.

    I can see a hint of purple in the 3D-ish logo at the end of the teaser, but the proper image version of the logo (all over StarWars.com) is definitely blue. :)

    Looks blue to me. I think the difference in appearance from the color in Star Wars and December is that the Star Wars is an outline around black letters and the December is all blue therefore the blues look slightly different

    I never saw purple, I think the effect used in the teaser gives it the illusion of purple but the poster and graphic they put up after the trailer are definitely blue.
