Okay this is going to be a pretty controversial discussion.

In both Aftermath and Lords of the Sith, Homosexuals characters were introduced into the new canon.

What are your feelings on this? Is it a big deal? Why should people care? Is it just to have gay people or does it add to good storytelling?

Let's stay civil people and discuss this like adults.

Gays in Star Wars? Sign me up as long as they're not all like C3P0!

All jokes aside, Star Wars belongs to everyone. We should all have the luxury of seeing a bit of ourselves reflected in the films. Not just the straight white male hero. So having gays, blacks, asians, whites, browns, trans, all of it just makes the SWU richer, and more welcoming to people of all walks of life. Never a bad thing. (As long as it's not a gratuitous cash grab on Disney's part ;)

I for one welcome our gay overlords!

Art, whether books or film is intended to give us glimpse into the lives, thoughts, and feelings of characters. Characters that represent the human condition in some way. All this is is Star Wars catching up to life. Finally representing a portion of the human race that had been underrepresented for centuries due to ingrained bias.

If someone has a problem with it, that is a problem with the reader not the fault of the artist for portraying the human race as they truly are.

I for one think it was a great thing. One of the few redeeming aspects of Aftermath I've found so far (I'm about half way through) was the completely un-sensationalized portrayal of Temmin's aunts. So matter of fact. So understated. It made me smile and made me continue with the book when I was thinking of giving it up. I hope they continue doing more of the same.

I personally don't give a crap. It's all over the TV shows I watch I'm surprised it's taken so long to end up in the GFFA.
While I personally am anti-gay. What you do in your personal life is none of my business and I'm not going to bash a bible over the heads of homosexuals.

For those who are anti, remember it this way. Your God or gods don't exist in this book. That's how I view it.

I've done informal research at comicons throughout the country, and Star Trek fans seem to be gayer. JJ Abrams will right this ship, and put us on top though. Was Sheev gay?

I think he was, which shows George Lucas was ahead of his time. He was comfortable making the most powerful figure in the galaxy a homosexual.

He didn't have a wife and his assistants were all men in floofy purple outfits. So it is possible.

Sex is power. And I doubt someone as power hungry as Sheev Palpatine went without sexual contact. I think he was into men.

Well it's in almost in every form of the movie business so if it comes to Star Wars they will have to think long before introducing

Oh man, I had to laugh all the way through this one! Anyway, makes no difference to me...it's life. Just as long as it doesn't get "Ruby Rhod" gay like in the Fifth Element! :)

I feel the same. As long as it's not blatant man on man kissing or anything like that then I really wouldn't have a problem with it. But with a galaxy full of people and aliens then I'm sure it's there. Question: If a human and an alien copulated, would that be a form of beastylity?

Wasn't there a Human/Twi'lek couple with a hybrid baby in The Clone Wars?

Yeah but I'm going more for, say, a human and a Wampa type. Not humanoid.
