Where was it confirmed Zam was a transexual? Wookieepedia lists her as female.

As a gay man and an avid Star Wars fan from a very young age - I must say it's nice to see same sex relationships being addressed. I don't believe it takes anything away from the Star Wars story. With all the hundreds of planets and millions of people in the Star Wars universe I just assumed there has always been homosexuals in the world of Star Wars.

As a teenager I struggled with sexuality and Star Wars was an escape. I got lost in films where there were different species, droids etc etc all getting on regardless of colour and race etc and for me it really helped.

Obviously it's saddening to hear that some people dont agree with it, however if it helped me through my struggle with accepting who I was, there must be others it helped too. Besides it helped me before there was even any mention or hint of a gay character.

Star Wars - helping gays since 1977

It's always tricky to make it feel like an organic thing in a movie that's been a built up world without it being outright stated.
Just try to keep it natural and within the movie. Don't make it a point to shine it out. It just takes you out of the moment when it shifts to something like that.

I personally dont see it as a problem. I just think that original charactes that are compelling could have same sex relationships but I dont know how I feel about turning well established characters into having same sex relationships.

I'm gay myself as much as I love star wars I don't think it had any bearings on who I am. I agree it took me away from my reality but many things did that. Football (soccer), animals, astronomy. Sure in my teenage years I was not sure what was going on and was getting yearnings which were not meant to be, especially in that past zietgiest, however, I just found star wars to be fun and still do until this day. My understanding of my personal truths laid elsewhere. :)

Definitely agree about the established characters. That'd feel pressed, like saying, "See? Now you HAVE to notice this!" and it becomes a story bigger than the story.

Show two men embrace after a victory. Or comfort each other after a defeat. But don't make it the story, then it gets tricky.

Star Wars is at it's best being apolitical. Yes there are tons of politics inside the universe but there's never been a direct link to our universe other than "Fascists and dictators are pretty bad yo!" There's no left-wing, right-wing. There's no anti-this or pro-that.
It's literally politics boiled down to it's absolute most basic tenants. Freedom vs not-so-much-on-the-freedom.

Star Wars, stay in your lane! Be the escapism everyone loves and enjoys. It's probably the second biggest uniting force (lol) on the planet behind sports! Everyone (usually) drops what they usually hold against anyone else and can enjoy Star Wars. It's beautifully apolitical.

I don't think adding same sex relationships would count as political UNLESS they made it out to be "ZOMG guys, the First Order is out to ban same sex couples!" Then you'd be treading into political realms. I'd prefer to keep it away from that. Which would also make it a bit awkward...let's be honest...Kylo has something bottled up there and it's more than daddy issues...

Yeah they should only deal with the political mechanisms of the star wars universe instead of our.

I think it's great! I'm all for it! I don't think they will force it. Not worried about it at all and I think it's about damn time.

And seeing the direction SW is taking with Rogue 1, it might happen soon than expected! I'm all for it as well. I think blockbusters are a great way to promote things that should be normal. Fynn and Poe, for instance, are two characters that could perfectly be gay. Is a man sharing same jacket a gay thing? not at all, but at least these two characters didn't close any door to that possibility. Frankly, I feel like these couple of guys have more chemistry than Fynn and Rey.

As long as the characters are used well, why not.

Okay, you might feel they have more chemistry, but it's obvious Finn has eyes for Rey from the first meeting. Retconning Finn to be homosexual serves nothing.

Personally I have no problem with a gay character or characters. But retconning Luke to be gay or to make any other character gay simply to be PC... no thanks. If they are gonna address a characters sexuality then it should be in a way that advances the plot of the film/book, other wise it's not necessary. Just my .02 cents.

I suppose you could argue that in AGFFA, gender attraction is maybe less pronounced. That everyone there is, in some way, bisexual. So Finn could be attracted to both Rey AND Poe. Just putting that out there.

It's pretty clear Luke was attracted to Leia until he realized it was his sister (that's a whole other post). Simply saying, i don't think they are going to blatantly address Luke's sexuality at all, and we already know he likes girls.
