I know that Episode IV was (retroactively?) sub-titled "A New Hope." However, I don't recall the word "hope" being used as like ... well... it almost seems like the new "the force." I'm basing this primarily on Rogue One, TLJ, and the campaign from Battlefront II. Every gosh darn speech comes down to hope. The most important thing is hope. The thing was must protect is hope. .... has this always been the case and I missed it? Or is this some weird new spin Disney has put on the franchise?

It just seems silly to me because hope is, like, the thing you rely on when you don't have anything tangible -- when it seems like all else is lost. That's definitely NOT always the case for our heroes. I'm so confused by this being treated as such a central theme.

Can someone put this all in perspective for me?

    Much obliged.

Most of the heroes/characters in the newer movies don't have the Force. What they rely on is hope. Hope to snuff out evil from the galaxy. Hope to live to fight another day. Hope that things will get better.

Hope has always been a strong theme, specifically before the Disney acquisition, but they have certainly put more emphasis on it.
Honestly, if this is the big moral or theme they want to preach, it's certainly timely.

26 years in the Air Force......one thing you never brief your commanding officer on when he/she asks what your strategy is for completing the mission. You should never answer "Well, we hope to do this....." Can't tell you how many times I as a young officer said that, only to be told "Hope is not a strategy"

    friend-whose-name-rhymes-with-itself??? ohhhh "hope" I get it ;-)

True. With everyone in the real world spewing blind, self-righteous hate at each other, we have to hope they all wise up one of these days. Peace be to all who read this. ^_^

That's awesome, man. Good for you. Thanks for your service! Also, that's pretty neat that you had a real life example that tied so closely to my ramblings up above.
