Any forum members here know or maybe think the Rebels may have used the stolen Death Star plans to R&D the powerful Ion Cannon that they set up on Hoth?
No real story or details ever really explained how they obtained this powerful cannon & why they put it on Hoth.
To me, I think the Rebels may have researched the Death Star cannon/weapon plans then "reverse engineered" the Ion Cannon.

In the 1980s era Marvel Comics, "Wedge" gets stuck on Hoth after the evacuation/battle. He sneaks into the damaged Ion Cannon station & hides out for a long period.
He survived by using the food/water/clothing abandoned by the Rebel troops.
I remember him mentioning the Ion Cannon too but I don't think it was fired again.

The Ion canon is in The Clone Wars season 1, episodes 2, 3, and 4, about the separatists starship malevolence that had a ion cannon built into the ship.

It would be cool to see the rebels team be the one's to steal the death star plans.

Well, considering we saw a tractor beam and a planet-killing green laser on the Death Star, but no Ion Cannon, and considering the rebels on Hoth had an Ion Cannon but not a tractor beam or a planet-killing green laser, I'd have to say...

    Sure! Makes sense to me!

I agree with Ceruleanlord. The basis for an ion cannon like used on Hoth was just a cannon that was capable of sending a massive ionic burst to a target designated in the air/near space, and capable of disabling electrical systems on orbiting ships.

It's a bit different than the much larger, different type of cannon found within the Death Star. Kind of like comparing a stormtrooper using stun on Princess Leia with a Star Destroyer using ship-mounted turbolasers to blast apart another ship.
