This thread contains spoilers for The Clone Wars

Okay, so Darth Maul makes a pretty stunning comeback in season 3 of TCW iirc. Which is pretty cool and all. The only thing that irks me is how the hell did he survive being cut in half, falling down a seemingly bottomless cliff, and end up on Lotho Minor to get a fancy pair of spider legs? Anyone got any ideas? Speculation? Any potential explanation for this somewhat overlooked plot hole?

Well, since Lotho Minor was basically a dumpster, he must've been essentially "thrown in the trash" at the bottom of that pit. Since lightsabers cauterize wounds and he really only lost everything below his waist (we also don't know his species' anatomy) I can see him surviving. That doesn't explain how he got those spider legs though.

But really though...he fell to the bottom core of Naboo and he was probably somehow picked up and revived to get his bionic legs similar to how Obi-Wan got his TPM Saber back unless he had back ups of his own saber lying around but then again why would he ranomly get a new one in ROTS...

That's a good point. Forgot about the lightsaber lol. I suspect that they must do something with whatever falls in that pit. That doesn't explain how he got the spider legs though.

He probably got it from that same vent. I would think a nice theory is that Naboo's energy comes from thermal heat where these giant tubes underground are pretty much giant trash compactors that, when turned on, work together with the planet'so Geothermal Energy so there might have been some parts lying around and Maul had to literally build himself a new body and used his/Ibi-Wan's sabers to weld and stuffs ...

Why on earth did Lucas bring him back from the dead for "THE CLONE WARS" in the first place?

    It is all explained here

The section "The Clone Wars - Exile in the Outer Rim" specifically addresses your questions.

    Hope this helps.

I find it really odd that Maul was able to survive what looked like certain death, yet Plagueis, who was more powerful than Maul and had control over life and death, has not been re-introduced in some fashion.

I think that the real reason that he survived was because of popularity, toys, & money :p .

I wouldn't be surprised if his survival was also due in part to magickal enchantments placed upon him by his mother.

Oh yeah I'm sure of that. Didn't occur to me before but it certainly makes sense.
