Rey and Finn are great can't wait until we see them again and we will eventually. Kylo kind of bores me but it had to be the protagnist that brought down the big bad. Not a fan of the Palpatine return myself but after RJ killed off Snoke who was left to be the big bad. It should have been Kylo but Disney bottled it. It would be desperately poor writing to bring him back again but I suppose with his bloodline still alive and cloning and such there is a chance a Palpatine relative could arise then again we don't know about anything of Luke's backstory. Just as likely there is another baby Skywalker alive and kicking. But no Sheeve is gone 100%

Kylo was in the hole with broken legs and was projecting himself when he helped Rey. He did not die, he simply lost his projection and had to recover and find his way out of the planets core. He was able to physically project himself unlike Luke because of the diad.

When you see him again he will be half robotic from waste down.

The real question is Han Solo dead. He was only stabbed through the gut with a lightsabre and then just fell down a shaft like Luke and Dark Maul.

I jest but by Disney's logic Han is far from dead.

You know how we know he's gone? Because they can't play that card again. You bring someone back from the dead more than once and it enters into Jean Grey territory and that's never good.

The Sith souls that were in Palpatine are now in Rey. He is one of many.

Rey will have to deal with this Darkness inside her or join it. Palsy is there but he is least of the worry. It is Bane that should worry you.

The way they brought him back post ROTJ proves that they can do anything - they brought Maul back, after all.

Chatting on tumblr with a person who said the only way to develop Rey now is to make her the villain....that would be an interesting twist.

No they're not, he never completed the ceremony. Hell, he never really started it.

Who is they? Maul was brought back years ago by people involved with The Clone Wars. They are not the people who made The Rise of Skywalker.

I guarantee you Palpatine will never return. He's done and they know it.

Not the only way, but could be the most interesting. It would very much support my thoughts about Rey being a "Galactic do-over" for Anakin. Her corruption and seduction to the Dark Side would have to come from within herself, which would be interesting storytelling.

You know... Them. They. Not us, Them. They are those people. Not him, not her, not me, not you. Yes, he and she can be They, but most often They are just Them. They can never be us. Sometimes They do good, sometimes They do bad, and we will always talk about what They do.

I always think now that they should rename the Skywalker Saga the Palpatine Saga....as at the end of the day the entire story begins with one, and ends with one.

The saga isn't about him though. He's barely in the originals. The entire series is not about him and the first six were never about "Anakin" or his redemption. That's some prequel fan blast. No one ever liked Vader growing up. He wasn't a victim or misunderstood, he was a mass murderer. Then The Clone Wars came out and it was all "pOOr AnAkiN!"

I think I just realized why Palpatine's return bothers me - outside of the narrative regression and implosion it causes, of course - and why I'm not confident Palpatine is dead.

Brandon Sanderson (have I mentioned him enough times yet?) has what he dubs are three laws of magic. Really, they're just guidelines to magic/science/fictional superpowers that edge towards the harder side of things, but I think it somewhat applies here. The first rule is that the author's ability to solve problems with magic is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to how well the reader understands said magic. For example, say your character can create fire from sparks. If you put them in a room with their hands tied behind their head but with rocks on the ground, their escape using the rocks to create sparks and untie themselves is believable. Or maybe the Timeturner from Harry Potter is a better example - readers learn about it, see how it works, and understand it's function. When it's used to solve a conflict, no one has a problem with that because it's understood how it works.

The problem with Palpatine's return and death is that we DON'T know how he came back in the movie. Yes, the books and various other materials have explained it, but for the casual viewer or for those who don't go that deep into things anymore, it's left nebulous. He came back via Deus Ex Machina/nebulous means, and he dies in a way similar to how he died before...but he came back from that. There's no satisfying explanation about how he came back in the movie, so there's no real reason to doubt he won't do it again another time.

Then again, they could have mentioned the whole "my spirit is in a clone" thing in the movie. I only saw it twice the opening weekend, and I haven't seen it since.

    You saw it TWICE?
I salute you for your stamina and devotion, sir, I could only manage once, and even then I left the cinema once Ben Solo staged his disappearing act (he left his clothes behind, so wherever he went, he went there naked ); I only saw the end on youtube....very glad I walked out.

That's a very interesting point...because Luke was protagonist in the OT, yet it wasn't him who killed Palpatine - it was his former apprentice. Yet another reason why I think
