Agree with everything you say. Why no legacy aliens?! It makes no sense.

The porgs have gotten so much attention, but I seriously doubt they'll have much screentime at all.

For instance, remember the downright controversy about Krennic's droid last summer- the sheer audacity that another astromech droid might exist somewhere in the galaxy (tongue in cheek of course, there were tons of protocol droids and people were being stupid). Well, as we know, that droid that apparently was such a big deal didn't even make the film's final cut!

I'm sure the porgs will actually be in the film, but I don't think they're going to quite get the ewok or gungan treatment. I'd expect a more Constable Zuvio vibe from them- make an appearance, sell the toy, and move along.

When the Millenium Falcon is pursued over Jakku sands by 2 TIE, and when these last ones crash, do not we see some Jawas rush in in order to steal the wrecked parts?

It was the same in R1. And it was also the same in ANH, TESB and ROTJ : rebellion is above all a human affair. Maybe it is assumed that human is the most intelligent specie in the GFFA. Clone were made from a human, and I think there are no alien at all under the StormTrooper suit.
Back in 1977 it was a time the man was widely considered far apart the animals, the only intelligent specie, infamously superior to all the other living species. It was natural to have a SF movie that considered the alien were inferior to the human, and by consequence, a story that gave the human the best part.
Nowadays we all know the human race is not so far from our closest neighbours. We all know a human shares more than 99% of its DNA with a bonobo (a monkey!), and roughly 95% with a pig. Related to the whole body, the difference between a human and a bonobo is roughly the ten toes'nails. In that ten little nails we host all of our intelligence, all of our humanity, all our understanding of mathematics, of physics, our knowledge of the universe, our capacity to love, to hate, to make love or make war, or and also make music or paintings or poems or songs... just on our ten nails...

    So well.
I too miss more important scenes and crucial decisions taken by aliens.
In R1 (iirc) just one alien says something that sems a a word: Pao yells "Karabast" during the assault on Scariff. I think all the other aliens - apart Two Tubes - simply growl or even are completely mute.

A funny thing would be them to be absolutely dangerous or dark creatures....

Curious, I was thinking in myself it could be the case with the Canto Bight Casino : just an appearance, as briefly as the New Republic crowd appears in TFA, just before Hosnian Prime is blown away.

thanks @Pawek_13, I must admit I've just seen TFA once, it was in the theater and it seemed to me they were Jawas.

Yep cute on the outside, dangerous on the inside. I swear if they have the nature of a piranha I'd be shocked.

I miss them too. Just speculating, but perhaps Lucasfilm has difficulties creating the right look for the legacy aliens. If they make them look exactly like the originals, they may look out of place among the new aliens. If they redesign them in line with the aesthetic of these new aliens, they may not look like the original versions.

I hope Rey gets to ride on one of them, I know it's kinda like reliving the Jessie Free Willy moment but I can live with that if it happens.

Never considered that. Possible. Though, Nien Numb looks the same (but better), and the Mon Cals looked the same (but better). But maybe updating only works with some of the legacy aliens.

I think that filmmakers reuse only named aliens from previous movies because the current Lucasfilm's strategy is to introduce new designs with the films, thus expanding what we consider to be the SW universe and later mesh them together with previous aliens using other media, like comic books, video games and novels. In all of them they use legacy aliens frequently, so it's not like they are somehow afraid of doing so. This also ties in with RJ's tweet that said that they used legacy aliens only for story-related reasons.

I think they will re use some of TFA's costumes to cut cost. I would like to see SOME OT aliens. The way I see it aliens are caricatures of people. I know it sounds dumb, but hear me out. Each alien species has its own features and personality, like different types of people. If you have a Trandosian in the movie it won't have enough distinctive features to distinguish it from Bossk. So everyone would assume it's Bossk. So I guess that's why they don't use the same alien species in different movies.

So yeah the guys making these suits and puppets are incredibly talented. It will be just as good, just stick to practical effects.

Cut cost?! TFA costed over $250 million, RO - over $200 million and both of them made huge profit just of ticket sales. It's not like Lucasfilm in some kind of bad financial situation to limit their spendings on new SW films. Heck, they even redesigned Stormtrooper's helmet for TLJ, making the ones from TFA useless. Also, the whole Ahch-To scene from Episode VII was rerecorded, despite limited accessibility to Skellig Michael. They do not intend to cut costs on their films.

Yeah when you cut cost, you increase profit margains. Disney knows that. They'll re use sets, and things like that. Also it cuts time. They may not look the same, but fundamentally the same.

You mean they saved sets from TFA and reused them TLJ? You sure get more profit but when the scale of expenditures is in hundreds of millions of dollars sparing one, two, even ten million dollars makes barely a difference. I reiterate - budgets for both newest SW films were over $200 million, or to visualize it better, over 200,000,000.00 dollars.

Well, both films were shot at Pinewood Studios next to London, so yes, they used the same sets if you understand them as a space to shoot a film. However, I'm sure that they didn't reuse sets if sets are understood as decorated spaces in which a film is shot. TLJ and the Han Solo film were also shot at Pinewood, so will probably be Episode IX.

Porgs taste in the throat the same as a big steel chain. I urge you to be careful, Jab'. The last time you tried to eat a steel chain, you almost smothered yourself. ;)
