Star Wars tradition, unlike any other, indicates that the middle chapter likely to have a dark ending.

The cliffhanging ending of Empire Strike Back is the best one of its kind and the Attacks of the Clone ended with the beginning of clone war. So, what you guys expect to see in the last 10 minutes of Episode VIII?

Personally, I want to see it's going really dark like Kylo kill Snoke at the end and succeed the throne. But that's unlikely if they want Kylo to turn back to the light.

So, I think Del Toro's character will be a key role in Episode VIII.

Finn saves Rey from Kylo Ren, who is captured in the process.
This sets up BDT or Hux or someone else to emerge as the primary active villain while Luke / Leia give Ben the brain rinse he so desperately needs, but probably won't take kindly to.
Rey is borderline Dark side angry (or even full-bore) at being trounced.
Maybe Poe is MIA in battle.

i'm okay with all the darkness they want to throw at this. get it out of their systems in this one so we can have a triumphant hope-filled finale!

I wonder if, perhaps to rescue Finn or in a ill-informed attempt to go after Kylo Ren herself for some reason, Rey might part from Luke and rush ahead even though "incomplete is her training," thereby endangering herself as Luke did in The Empire Strikes Back.

Rey being injured, someone coming to save her or sacrificing himself or herself to save her, might then end this episode on a narrative point comparable with Episode V.

Most generally, Episode VIII will (or should) leave us partly in suspense, deeply concerned, and eagerly looking forward to Episode IX.

This time, though, I would hope the end of Episode VIII would not leave too many essential things left unknown so that, leading up to Episode IX, we once again experience storyline concerns as to whether or not there will be time enough to address or resolve certain things, and so on.

I would rather the "suspense" not be generated by identity-driven wonders (like "so who is this Snoke person") but rather a more central and driving question:

where do our heroes go from here.

Wow! exactly my thought, I want to see someone missing, probaly Rey herself. She might need sometime to deal with conflicts in her mind.

I am not going to guess at the plot, but I hope it ends very darkly, with the heroes looking like all is possibly lost at that point. Sure, maybe as others have stated one or two people could be missing (what happened to Poe?!). Perhaps Snoke succeeds in taking over the entire galaxy/universe, and is in a position of supreme power similar to what Palpatine had in the OT. I would like to see one or more characters struggling between the dark and the light.

BTW, I am not convinced that Kylo Ren will be redeemed and returned to the light. IF that happens, I would expect it to happen in 9, not 8.

I'm thinking by the end of episode 8, we see the dark side/FO clearly in a position of advantage--there is great concern for a couple of the main characters and an over all sense of dread for the rest. I understand many people not wanting anymore beloved characters to die, but this is the place it should (should have) happened.

The audience should come away very concerned for the heroes and a mixture of being intimidated/infuriated by the antagonists. Yet of course despite all the gloom there should be that flickering glimmer of hope.

-Rey is badly injured (perhaps in a coma with Finn and Poe watching over her, in a mirror of the end of TFA).
-The heroes are defeated and on the run.
-Snoke's and Kylo's power continues to grow and they're about to put Snoke's ultimate plan into action.
-Several named characters (I'm thinking maybe Ackbar, Hux, Nien Nub, and maybe Phasma) are either dead or captured.

Everyone dies, Snoke and Hux reign supreme, and Chewbacca never gets his medal. No cliffhanger, trilogy over...

Is that dark enough for ya?

I will explain everyone's ideas in a nutshell,

-Rey loses her fight with Kylo and gets saved by someone.
-All hope is seemingly lost as the bad guys look dominant.

While the above points may scream ESB on paper, It still offers enough room for Ep. 8 to differentiate itself from Ep 5.

First of all, I don't think Kylo killing Snoke will be "really dark". Actually, considering how many people seem to hate Snoke, it would probably lighten up their mood.

Second, I still don't see Kylo usurping Snoke, and succeeding the throne happening so easily. There are other things to consider before something like that could happen.

Dead Luke, maimed Rey, missing Finn, snoke commanding the reunited knights of Ren toward total obliteration of Liea and the resistance. Oh, and 3-po leaves R2 for bb-8.

    Dark enough for ya!

The thing is "darker second acts where the villains have the upper hand and the heroes are at their lowest points" are hardly unique to SW. It's pretty common actually (heck Pirates of the Caribbean did for goodness sake). So no, being that way doesn't automatically make it "ESB 2: Electric Bogaloo," as long as you go about it in a different way.

To be honest none of these Ideas sound "weird enough" we have to remember who is writing and directing this. There is a reason he was hired. I am very intrigued by what that is. I think Johnson is going to take Star Wars in a new direction. I think that something strange happens, Snoke is revealed and we discover who he is, but that discovery leaves us feeling hopeless. The good guys, much like epsisode 2, may win, but what kind of victory is it when we have a villain really, really old that we are unsure of how to kill exactly.

My guess is that kylo kills snoke in IX. Rey saves Kylo, not by saving his life per se, but by making him see that his father was not the weakling that Ben thought he was.

oh and if Rey is not a Skywalker, then somehow in VIII we see a Mrs. Ren( don't mean literally a mrs. Ren, I mean someone Kylo can copulate with) so we can set up at least the idea of a next generation of Skywalkers.

another post editor thought, what if Rey is not a Skywalker, but somehow the new Mrs. Solo, I don't even know how that would work, but ....

while i'm in the "kill Snoke" camp, seeing Ren ascend would be pretty dang dark for those of us who want him to get his sheet together and go home to Mom.

well...it would qualify for weird. hahaha

I suppose you like Kylo more than you hate Snoke then?

I mean if you had a choice between seeing Kylo kill Snoke,

Or seeing Kylo reunite (peacefully) with his mother.

    Which would you choose?

    yeeech...what a choice!
i'm going to pick go home to Mom.

much as i want him to kill Snoke (and i do want him to with every vengeful bone in my body), i don't think that would really help him with his Dark side problems.
maybe let Uncle Luke and Rey handle the fishy-eyeballed little freak. hahaha

Hmm... I've always been a fan of the idea that Kylo kills Snoke and ascends. But I also think that this may be one last hurrah for Luke as a living character. I imagine that the very end could again be at the First Jedi Temple, Rey stands alone looking out over the ocean.
Gently, gradually, on either side of her the force spirits of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker come into focus and stand with her.
Though... now that I think about it that might work better for IX (I don't know anything guys... move along).

I agree. Rey captured by Kylo and Snoke fits perfectly with a dark ending. Perhaps she will be captured along with Finn who will be tortured by Kylo/Snoke to make Rey suffer and bring her to the dark side.

I'm not sure TPTB want a legacy character confronting Snoke or Kylo to save the new protagonist(s) as interesting as a Snoke/Luke showdown would be.

Kylo and Snoke capture Rey, Kylo kills Snoke and reunites knights of ren "army". Luke trains Finn and together they have to save Rey and kill the KOR in episode IX
