Note that they didn't say Trilogy, they did not say Stand Alone film, and 2 films do not a "series" make. I'd say we're looking at at least 4 movies, but what do you think?

I will say this: with this much volume I can't imagine this being set between any of the films that are currently out or in production. I could be wrong, but I really just can't see that many films running concurrently. Unless they push really hard for the "unknown regions" and isolate it from everything else. No, this is either going to push deep into Old Republic territory or past the sequel trilogy into the future.

    Yeah, I did notice that.

I almost wonder if they don't ant to box themselves in. Maybe they'll set the stage with a first movie, then try to read the pulse of the fanbase from there.

Ideally they at least have a vague idea of where the series will go, but I don't mind them expanding on it if they feel the need. After all, one of my biggest criticism of the sequel trilogy is that we're two movies in and only about a week of in-universe time has passed. It just feels like one more film is not enough to wrap it up.

I think a "series of films" is a safe way to say "if people don't like it, we don't have to make a trilogy out of it because we said so." Cause a series could just mean two films and be done with it.

More than 1, less than 357 (I would think)

On a more serious note, all we have is the language they used to go on and to me, a series means more than a trilogy. There's probably no concrete number but they know it'll be more than three. If they were making one film, they'd say they're making one film, if two, they'd say two, and if a trilogy, they'd say a trilogy... at least that's how I see it.

Depends on what it is. The wording is puzzling, indeed. More than three seems overconfident at this point. I have nothing against it if their first effort turns out to be amazing, but nobody knows that yet. Look, if they put out the best Star Wars I've ever seen, I want them to write everything.

The wording also implies that they're writing the whole series. Sounds like a done deal. In that case they must have an idea as to how many instalments there will be. If that's not the case, then the press release is inacurate. And usually each word of such press releases is purposeful. Maybe they just don't want us to know it's a trilogy, but I don't know why that would be the case.

My guess is that they're setting up an Old Republic-type universe. A franchise withing a franchise, basically. Which leaves me wondering - what the hell is Rian's trilogy about, then...?

Prediction: it's not a film series for theatrical release, but for the Disney streaming service. Disney wants to give Netflix a run for its money, and Netflix frequently makes/buys films for streaming without doing any theatrical release.

That's a good point- I agree that I don't think they'd use the word series for 1, 2, or three films.

Not sure we can really say much more than that.

I think the series will have either 5 or 6 movies, but it really depends on the story they are trying to write. :)

5 if they are going with old republic....because unlike the skywalkers, where they are bunched up into trilogies, 5 will allow them to tell a grand saga with one main character.

I just hope, that it's not 3 or a multiple of 3. But my real guess is: as much as it is profitable...

    Film series
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_series

A film series or movie series (also referred to as a film franchise or movie franchise) is a collection of related films in succession that share the same fictional universe, or are marketed as a series.

Sometimes the work is conceived from the beginning as a multiple-film work, for example the Three Colours series, but in most cases the success of the original film inspires further films to be made. Individual sequels are relatively common, but are not always successful enough to spawn further installments.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest grossing film series in unadjusted US Dollar figures surpassing the Harry Potter, Star Wars, James Bond, and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series. However, "Star Wars" has the highest when adjusted for inflation.[1]

They would be the right people to handle that era as opposed to RianJohnson. I’d like them to do something involving The Old Sith Empire.

I'm calling "Netflix" on this one. Or an HBO special type deal where viewers must pay for some TV subscription.

maybe the old republic movies will hint at the true history of the sith...what if the first sith were different from the modern sith in that instead of seeking power for its own sake they instead seek it for their worship of a fallen whill....who is the god king of the sith empire. And revan was the one who imprisoned him at the end of the old republic saga after he reformed the sith to be secular nietzschean supermen. You could replace the awful emperor vitiate with this whill and create a saga that feels more in line with the lord of the rings saga than star wars. ending with revan imprisoning this whill in the unknown regions.
