Also Palps starting researching deeper into finding the answer to immortality about 20 years prior to his death on Endor, with the fact he had the wayfinder at that time, he could have quite easily had most of what we see on Exegol set up in place long before then.

Yes part of it is, but not the whole Rule of Two implying that is what Master and Apprentice Sith always did before.

Palpatine did not want to pass the Sith to Vader. He was too damaged. He wanted Luke.

Anakin broke the cycle, he broke the rule of two so the siths were exciled on their planet.

No because she didn't kill him with a full hatred strike.

No; in order to live on in their chosen Vessel, a Sith Master must be struck down with the Dark Side.

So, since we are to assume that Palpatine did previously die (as he stated such), I think the writers leaving that so unexplained is problematic because how do we know he’s “dead” dead? If he died before and came back, why would we think he wouldn’t just come back again?

He didn't have an opportunity to preserve his spirit via Sith magic or was so weak that he couldn't put such magics in place again.

    For two simple reasons:
    1. In order for their religion to live on. The Sith have devoted their whole life to this creed, they're not gonna be the only practitioner and risk its extinction. An apprentice must be taken in order for the legacy and knowledge of the Sith to persevere.
    2. The Sith believe in the rule of the strong. If a Sith Master is killed, it's purely because they lacked the strength and foresight to prevent this. The apprentice deserved to take the master's place.
The visual dictionary and film combined, make it rather clear how he survived, and why he remained hidden. When a Sith is killed in a selfish manner, their spirit passes into their successor's body via essence transfer. However, since Palpatine was selflessly killed by Anakin, his spirit had nowhere to go and should have perished alongside his body. Instead his cult; the Sith Eternal located his corpse, and through a combination of Sith alchemy and technology managed to revive him. Palpatine, knowing he doesn't have much longer, needs someone to kill him, so that his spirit and those of all the Sith before him may pass into their body and avoid death.

However, he needs a successor powerful enough first, to ensure the Sith lineage lives on. That's why he sought Rey when she was young, so she could be raised in the dark. When that failed, he turned his attention to Ben Solo. Snoke was engineered to lead the First Order, and both corrupt and mentor this boy. The visual dictionary states killing Snoke was Ren's final test, to prove he was ready to inherit the mantle of Emperor.

wasn't it just a clone body? i thought this was hinted at in the movie. finding the original corpse is even more problematic because he was seemingly vapourized (as was the death star) but i guess that doesn't matter. i think the reason there is no clear explanation is exactly because there isn't one.

So, there's this interview with the editor, and in it she explains that originally we were going to hear a bit more about how Palpatine was still alive.

Well, short of Palpatine having imbued Vader's armor with enough of his Force essence to eventually be transferred over to a clone body "somehow," there really isn't a plausible explanation. Because let's face it... we saw Palpatine's body flippin' explode when Vader threw him down that elevator shaft. And then even if there were a few gobbets of Palpatine goo left spattered on the walls of that shaft, the Death Star was all but vaporized when its reactor blew a few minutes later.

It was enough of a leap to buy the notion that Maul survived being sliced in half and tumbling down a deep shaft - but at least in that case there was a body, albeit a bisected one. Any Palpatine explanation that involves what we see in TROS being his original body from ROTJ would just be laughably beyond the pale. And incredibly lazy writing to boot.

I'll roll with Hobbit Rebel's "dark science and cloning" theory, barring a more official explanation.

I disagree; we see an explosion of energy, but at no point do we definitively see Palpatine's body consumed by said explosion.

What is hilarious is Palp told Rey this process of how Sith live on. Why in the world would he do that? Just let her strike you down man. Like she wanted to at that point. Then you really win.

Of course, this is the same guy who sent out a mass email to the galaxy that he was back.

Awful, terrible, poorly thought out, rushed, illogical movie.

There are little plot holes like Leia's white dress being clean after the trash compactor, then there are bigger issues like Finn and Poe being able to call Maz but no one else in the TLJ, then there is this movie.

I get someone had to explain it so the audience learned it. Have Palp explain it to Kylo.

Even better, have Luke explain it to Rey as a force ghost. "You have to face him, but not with hate..." or something.

Nope. Palpatine really wanted to lose for some reason. LOL LOL

Which isn't a terrible idea, but is a complete retcon. It doesn't explain how Palps survives.

And literally makes zero sense why Palpatine would explain this to the person who is about to strike him down. You keep talking down to people and straight up ignoring HUGE issues with these films.

I think it was really meant for Kylo but Palps accidentally hit " Reply All" and sent it to everyone.

Isn't he essentially the first Sith who did that kind of transfer, so didn't he actually die several hundred times.

The whole throneroom is still intact, so vaporized is too big of a word for what happend to DS2

No movies ever have villians do a monologue about their evil plan. Come on that is basic of action films for as long as I have been watching movies. Every single James Bond film has the villian do it at least once.

Are you implying that he DID have time to do these things between the time Vader picked him up in ROTJ and when he went down the shaft, like, a few seconds later?
