SPECULATION How powerful will Finn be

I went with Luke because I'm Nigerian, and very biased.

None of the above. His force powers, if any, will be rather weak. If he would already have considerable force powers, he would not have been a stormtrooper. However, it is surely possible that his powers, like Luke's in the OT, will increase over the entire sequel trilogy.

 

I'm not sure where I would rank him myself, but this part of your premise is not accurate anymore..
In one of the last Star Wars comics they had "everyone" using lightsabers because the blasters were out... :/

That picture is cringe worthy.
If the force is to be awakened, then finn and Rey better both rise above luke. I know everyone likes the dude, but they're gonna have to bring it hard to stop the first order. And from the sounds of it, this is their trilogy...aka they won't have papa luke to leech off of the entire time. So that means they better learn all he has to teach and use it.

No bias, it's just what needs to be done in order to save the day.

Yeah, it was really too much on the fan-service for me too... but since it is canon now, even though they make a casual remark about trying not to cut their own face off, it just goes against "certain doom"...

Back on topic, I'm not sure if they have to outrank Luke. I feel that he will have the Yoda role, the Master and teacher (maybe not even using his lightsaber? Blasphemy, I know)...
On the other hand I'm not even too clear on how to rank the options in the poll!

I don't think Finn is force sensitive at all just trained in combat.

 

Won't know unti ep 8. In the movies force power levels are hard to sort thru. It's not like Magic the Gathering.

 

Still on the fence on this. 50% on he won't be a force user. Only thing i'm sure is that he can't win Kylo Ren, at least in this episode 7. That means 50% lost of limb or 50% death. Not very good odds i admit but i'm hopeful Finn will survive. I still didn't get the vibe from John that he is gonna be 100% in episode 8.

 

All I want is a super, emotional dynamic lightsaber fight between finn and kylo in episode 9. Well that....and Luke to save the day, and Vader to somehow be resurrected...

 

I agree since JJ said there won't be mention of midichlorians, I don't expect any one pulling out their handy dandy midichlorians counter to find out Finns force potential. We'll find out later in the trilogy. We will at least know he is force sensitive. Nothing more.

 

Strange set of choices...no Windu, Rey is a choice and we don't know how powerful she is will be yet.....Finn doesn't understand the Force so assuming he has it pretty weak in this film.....but my guess is his closest Jedi parallel will be Obi-wan so that was my choice.

 

the choices on this thread are bizarre and, in the case of Obi-Wan, redundant. also, normal people can use lightsabers without being "doomed to die;" just look at Han in ESB.

with that being said, i feel like Finn is going to die in this movie so i doubt he'll have enough development to showcase his latent Force abilities. however, should i be wrong, i bet he'll end up picking up the Force in a natural way like Luke did, with little formal training. maybe he'll end up like Qui-Gon.

 

These poll options are interesting to say the least. Why would Finn be even close to Obi-Wan or Dooku? Why does Luke have "not likely" next to his option? Luke is probably one of the 'weaker' Jedi on this list from what we have in the cannon. Sure he had natural talent but barely any training, you can't say Luke was anywhere close to these two Jedi Masters.

 

I still do not think he is a Jedi. I think he will become a great commando type soldier for the Rebellion but in terms of force power I think he has none.

 

That should be in some sort of Bizarro alternate universe.

 

I hope Finn's character is allowed to choose his own path.
