How Rey can realistically beat Kylo...

...by using The Force ...

 

If those "other things" are the ground falling from underneath her or Kylo, a la Snow White, expect a harsh backlash against this film . . .

If it's a certain Jedi, maybe not.

 

She lives amongst thieves, really bad dudes so she learnt to fight. She had good experience of staff and she seems very willing.

 

Kathleen Kennedy and politics will ruin this damn franchise if Rey is able to beat Kylo Ren in a battle. Makes no damn sense for an untrained person to take on a powerful dark side user.

 

She will lose, unless she touches the Dark Side...

 

She'll physically beat the blast out of him until he force chokes her and throws her like a rag doll .

 

maybe Kylo is not as powerful as we think he is at the moment....he may have been hurt in an explosion that knocked off his helmet...then fights Finn/Rey at half strength

 

According to spoilers, no, Rey doesn't beat Ren. I think she'll do like Finn is supposed to do (based on MSW spoilers, he holds his own for a bit but is ultimately injured)...and I suspect that although Rey stands her own, she's still outclassed and the entire fight is interrupted by what's going on around them (the ground falling away, again, according to MSW).

To have her defeat Ren...not matter how it comes about...diminishes Ren as a villain so much that he's basically useless the rest of the trilogy. That, I think, is the biggest hint that she will fight well, but not THAT well. I don't think Ren is a one-movie-and-done character, especially given Driver being hand picked to play Ren and spoilers about Ren's background.). Plus it brings Rey into Mary Sue territory. Personally, as a female, I really want Rey to be a strong character...but her hero's journey needs bumps to make it work, and having her defeat Kylo is just not good storytelling, IMO.

I DO think she'll show impressive skill. But I sincerely doubt that she'll be anywhere near as powerful as Ren. Not yet.

 

I don't think Kylo will be trying to defeat Rey at all. I don't think Kylo is a Skywalker/Solo but he does seem to worship Vader so I believe when he finds out that Rey is his grandchild he will feel somehow fascinated by her, he will probably try to turn her and have her join him.

We're discussing Kylo Ren"s "power" compared to other known force users of the OT and the PT.

 

I said in another thread that I think that Kylo Ren aspires to be a Sith but isn't one yet.....which might, in part, go some way to explaining what the Knights of Ren are. I think his powers are wild and need refining.....which means that Rey might be more of a match for him than if he were a fully trained and skilled Sith. It's raw Force against raw Force.

Ren is a level 8 and Rey is a level 7 according to the Hasbro Star Wars card game. Many other Force users from the past are ahead of them.

Kylo Ren doesn't have his blast together according to Kasdan. He's unfinished and unrefined Driver and Kasdan were saying on the press junket.

He's just not on Vader's level yet.

Star Wars isn't realism, it's fantasy, a fairy tale set in space, so I couldn't care less.

But if the Force really awakens with Rey in the battle, you could see some Avatar-state level Korra action going on! Heh.

Characters can duel any character that is on their level, 1 level above or 1 level below. These duels can go either way but the character that is ranked higher is more powerful and "should" win.
Characters are not powerful enough to duel a character that is 2 or more tiers above them.

Two huge assumptions, first that she is untrained, second that Kylo is a powerful dark side user, huge huge assumptions, unless you saw the movie already, in that case i apologize

Yes, even though the movie is not out yet and there is no indication at all that she will beat Kylo, KK and politics will ruin the franchise.....gosh I struggled reading that. Firstly, we have no idea how powerful Kylo is. Secondly, we have no idea how naturally skilled or adept Rey is with the force or simply with melee weaponry. Thirdly, we have no idea whether or not Rey wins, loses, or if the duel ends as a draw due to other forces intervening. Lastly, since nobody aside from Luke, as we know, is technically trained, then anyone who went up against Kylo would be untrained. Before you start losing your mind over a girl potentially beating a boy, just simmer down for a moment. The person who you claim might ruin the franchise, KK, is the person who is actually saving it. Clouded, your judgement is. Corrupted you, the dark side has.

To everyone else, she's not going to beat him, or at least it's extremely unlikely. If she does, it would definitely need to be explained properly, but she's not. There has been no indication that she beats Kylo. If anything, they are going to go back and forth for a few minutes. She'll surprise Kylo with her natural ability, making him lose some ground to start. Then, he'll start to push back until he once again has the upper hand. Something will happen, possibly the destruction of the base/planet or Chewie arriving in the Falcon, that will put an end to the engagement. Both sides escape and lick their wounds, particularly Finn who has lost a(n) hand/arm, and everyone, aside from Han , live to fight another day till Episode VIII. All of us, in the meantime, smile like giddy children after witnessing one of the finest overall lightsaber battles we've ever seen. Sounds pretty rad to me

 

Always makes me chuckle to see a discussion about "realism" in films that are essentially "fairy tales in space". (1)

Rey is more powerful in the Force than Kylo. This gets established in a scene before they even fight.

The Force is strong in Rey.

Size matters not.
