How Rey is truly a Skywalker

Wait, so the Snake-thing that Rey healed in the cave is technically also Palpatine now? Episode X here we come!

 

I never noticed that, and you're right.

But to me the mainly reason that she's a Skywalker was because she had guidance of Luke and Leia, and before them Han (he's not a Skywalker but he is in the family).

 

To me, "Skywalker" becoming a title-name is akin to how "Caesar" became a title after Gaius Julius Caesar. The name of the legend becomes a badge-of-honor title for future generations to wear.

Now, for all we know a future writer might someday decide that Skywalker super-midi-chlorian stuff was transfered into Rey, for her to pass down into future generations (should she chose to have children), but it is certainly not needed at this point in the story

 

Maybe got her Force Pregnant!

Although, there was a much better way for Ben to have passed all of his Life Force into Rey so that she has a Skywalker within her...

I don’t think Rey is a a skywalker because nobody of actual skywalker blood gave her that name and she is a palpatine

 

Do you not think Luke and Leia would accept her as part of the Skywalker family after the events of the trilogy?

 

They probably would, but it should have been shown to us, somehow. I would have liked this a lot better

 

Good point. They could have done that. I personally didn't think it was necessary, but it could have been nice.

 

Well, they did technically show us that Luke & Leia accepted Rey, at least with the burrial of the lightsabers at the Skywalker farm. And with Carrie Fisher unable to act out a motherly moment there, I think that waht we got is the best they could have given us. Also, I like that we got a nice, warm smily moment rather than an info-dump sequence where ghost-Luke shows up and names Rey a Skywalker, or whatever. Personally, I think that what we got was pretty fitting and great, cricumstances being what they were.

No. The snake was already a Palpatine to begin with.

They actually acted as pseudo parents to her to begin with, which I really liked. It gave Rey some parental love she missed out on as a child and always craved. And even the novelization of TROS said that Leia viewed Rey as the daughter she never had.

 

Maybe the should have given the actual offspring some parental love. Nah, I guess he was replaced by Poe.

 

Recently read Cass Sunstein's The World According to Star Wars. It was written after Last Jedi, but he concludes that--whatever Rey's lineage turns out to be--she is truly a Skywalker, because she embodies the hero's journey the way Luke and Anakin did before her.

Whether or not you agree with that take, it's worth noting: many fans considered her a Skywalker and felt that connection even before she takes the name in TROS.

 

When you train in the path of the Jedi with Luke Skywalker, learn the ways of the Rebellion from Leia Organa and hold Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, I'd say you deserve the name – the title, rather?

 

My read was that he simply gave her back the life she’d given him when she healed that gut wound she inflicted. He was just borrowing it for a bit. Meh, to each their own

TFA Rey thought of Han as a father. TROS Rey thought of Leia as a mother. So, she and Ben are basically siblings that make out. You did it, JJ! You brought us full circle. It’s like poetry . . . . icky, incestuous poetry.

 

To me, Rey is 100% a Skywalker. It doesn't matter if she is Palpatine's granddaughter. Rey is a good character and I am not judging her for the relatives she has.
