I like that idea, though people were speculating on that long before TROS came out.

I'm not particularly sure the movie really does much to verify it, and even Rey's final line seems to suggest more that she's a "Skywalker" more in name than title.

I think people take the whole "Rey Skywalker" thing way too literally. I personally don't think she is literally saying "I'm a full-blow Skywalker now, get me in that family tree!!!". I think she still sees herself as "just Rey" but by taking the Skywalker name she is paying homage to her masters (Luke & Leia). As it's the end of the Skywalker saga...she's kinda saying she'll tell their story, continue to pass on their training and thus their legacy will live on. Obviously, people can interpret it however they like but I found this way pretty moving and kinda beautiful!

In that 20 years the Empire was making grate-less exhaust ports and rail-less walkways, there weren’t any Jedi. Not any the galaxy knew about anyway. In the 30 years after, there was only one: Luke Skywalker. For the weirdos that inhabit this strangely small galaxy, his name would be synonymous with ‘Jedi’. Taking that name isn’t just paying respect, it’s also telling everyone that the Jedi have returned.

I think the main intention is closure for Rey. The whole trilogy, Rey has been looking for her identity, her place in all of this. She had been looking at her past, who her parents were. Im feel is supposed to show Rey has come to terms with who she is, where her place is.. "Im Rey Skywalker"
