Reports from 2010 indicate that Lucas purchased the rights to some dead movie stars, with the intention of CGI'ing them into full speaking roles. Lucas is retired now, but if Disney could do this with Alec Guinness, would you like to see it in the ST?

I know it's blasphemous, but if Disney could pull it off, I'd love to hear Guinness as Obi-Wan again.

I honestly don't really want to see Obi Wan in the ST, nor Yoda. They had their time; Luke is now taking on the roles of both of them.

I would, however, love to see the rumored Obi Wan trilogy with Ewan returning.

I agree. If they could pull it off.... That's the question.

I'm okay with one film. Three is too much, IMO. Thanks for voting.

Oh I agree, it's just that the trilogy was the rumor. I could see a trilogy happening though.

Edit: Originally, I went pretty crazy here and pitched three whole movies in one post. I have since moved all of that craziness to its own thread so as not to derail yours. Check it out if you want, I think it's pretty good! https://thecantina.starwars7news.com/index.php?threads/an-obi-wan-trilogy.3512/

I think it'd be cool to see a force ghost Obi-Wan show up somewhere in the ST. I'd rather have Ewan McGregor than a CGI Alec Guiness. I suppose they could do a little CGI rendering on Ewan's face to make him look a little bit more like Alec Guiness (kind of like they did with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Looper), although I don't think that'd be necessary.

    Ewan McGregor all the way.

But I won´t say nay if they can pull off a CGI-Alec Guiness. I have to see that test screening first. But we have McGregor anyways...So why hide him behind CGI...
And Boys as for Girls love McGregor to death...So Win/Win!

i think o also would prefer ewan mcGregor doing the part, then cgi change his face & since he's a forceghost it will be kinda "blurry" anyway, so it could work, i actually like to see all three og them: obi1, yoda & anakin (& i wouldn't mind Hayden doing the part & that MUST have been the reason for replacing him in the special edition) but since the script was changed that may not be the case anymore, but i would love to see Luke comunicate will both his old masters & also get to know his father like he was before turning

I don't really want Obi-Wan to show up in the ST. He's already had a huge character arc over pretty much all the original six films and TCW. We've seen the beginning and end of what he is (not that I'm necessarily opposed to stories to fill in some of those gaps, I really like Star Wars #7 after all)

But if he were to show up I'd want him to be Alec Guinness, it just seems weird to me that he'd appear in old man form to Luke all through the OT only to decide he'd rather go back to young McGregor-form here.

THAT is a tough one: My first reaction is to say Ewan in full aged appearance, but then again it just wouldn't be the same. On the other hand, we know Alec is gone and to have him reincarnated for it would just be...uncomfortable. I really can't decide....but nevertheless, I'd love to see some old Jedi popping in and giving advice and/or counsel.

It would be interesting if you only see Luke's side of the conversation. He talks to Obi-Wan and Yoda, but the other characters (and the audience who is now tied to the new protagonists) does not see them. So, it appears Luke is just talking to himself. Makes Luke look a bit nuts and eccentric, but we as fans of the OT know that it is really happening.

hmmm, i haven't thought of that alernative yet, although i REALLY want to see a force-ghost Yoda, it would be a real cool way to insert Obi & Anakin to the story without "inserting" them & your idea of "Luke talking to himself, appearing nuts & eccentric goes well with the rumour of him being odd & maybe a bit crazy... :p

Lets not forget about Qui-Gon! If we're having a force ghost party, Qui-Gon should be there. I like @Rebo 's idea of using no actor and just having Luke talk to himself would be cool. Because we still wouldn't know if its real or not.

My answer to the OP is Ewan McGregor. He's here, he's older, he plays a very good Obi Wan. Why not? I have no problem at all with the different appearance, because it's a movie. Characters get recast all the time. Sometimes even in the same movie. (I'm looking at you Wedge). So I think Ewan all the way.

I hope they aren't taking their PT distancing to the extent of not even considering Ewan for Obi Wan.

There are a lot of different rumors floating around about cgiing dead people/recasting old people, the whole nine yards. My opinions vary with the situation:
For characters that have a living actor with as much claim to the role, I'd just as soon see them reprise it. For instance Obi-Wan. In live action movies going forward, Obi-Wan should just be played by Ewan McGregor.
If its not already been recast, then it would be cool to see some boundary pushing effects. like bringing peter cushing to life via cgi. As long as the effect is mind blowing, this is a cool route to go. If the effect sucks, obviously recast. I'm also more open to this with Peter Cushing specifically because his look is so unique.
If the recast is already murky, they I don't know what I would do. Like Anakin for instance. Default would probably be Hayden christiansen, but at least six people have had something to do with that character between the two trilogies and the clone wars.

I'm against dead people appearing in movies they didn't agree to being in. Certainly not something I'd want for myself.

    Just recast.

Mention only. I don't need a cgi Obi Wan. I don't need an ultra made up Ewan McGregor. I think the only character I'd like to see that was in the OT that died is Yoda, since you can easily just create a Yoda puppet that looks convincing and Frank Oz is still living. I don't need Anakin/Vader either, and that's a slippery slope anyways because Hayden Christensen is in the OT now as a force ghost. You'd pretty much have to have him back and I know everyone would throw a fit if he was.

I wouldn't mind Luke/Leia coming across some unseen hologram footage of Padme, but that's pretty unlikely.

Obi-Wan/Ben, Anakin or Qui-Gon aren't necessary to apper in this ST as a force ghosts. I think que only force ghost that must worth for an apparition is Luke (if he died...).

I'm not sure he's necessary, especially if Luke fills the mentor role.

If Force Ghosts appear as they did at their death, then I would prefer Guinness, but my doubts as to whether they could pull that off well would lean me towards McGregor.
