How to cure foolish misguided bad guys like Kylo or Hux?

@oldbert, I'm writing a letter to LF right now recommending you as the writer/director for this standalone film. Or would you just prefer to write us a nice alternate universe fanfic? (In which Hux gets a redemption arc, I presume?)

Snoke was wrong about a lot of things. So let's keep a little optimism here.

I personally don't see anything in Hux's charachter that indicates he should or even could be saved. I am of course reffering to presented in the movies only because I don't explore SW universe much through other sources.
Is there anything about Hux that I am perhaps not seeing and that would make him worthy of saving?

For me he became unsalvable the moment he suggested and implemented the destruction of the Hosnian system. After that he still had the potential to become a really good, even terrific villain and formidable opponent, but the way the story progressed in tlj and the way he was portrayed there simply forbids it. No one takes him seriously anymore: not his subordinates that laugh behind his back when he is being outsmarted by one lone fighter. Not the old Supreme Leader Snoke who humiliates him in public. Not the new supreme leader Kylo who is throwing him arround. I think that is a pitty because he could have been better villain than Tarkin.
Like this, they actually made him like Wormtongue in LOTR what seals his fate to the only plausible outcome: insignifficance and/or death.

I guess it is possible to keep him alive after st to fester somewhere in the background and grow into a new post st villain but given that he has no force powers and i am pretty sure the actor's unvilling to stay involved with the story past st, I would say that is not going to happen.

@oldbert do you agree or have some different input about Hux?

 

I agree with most of your points too. The most with this one.

So...do you prefer the way old SL throws Hux around or the new SL? I think Hux was more desingned for sideways flight rather than vertical slam dunks?

 

The new Supreme Leader uses much more passion you know.

 

i'll just add this for @oldbert, since he invoked me to speak on the topic XD:

i wouldn't say Hux is any more sympathtic, necessarily, in the EU, but seeing where he comes from and the fact that he has basically been conditioned to physical and emotional abuse since he was a small child, it's hard to fault him for his sociopathic behavior. he is, unfortunately, a product of extreme social deprivation. it's doubtful he's ever had any genuine kindness in his life and wouldn't know what to do with it if it was offered to him.

even Rae Sloane, whom i've seen some people describe as his "protector" really only used him as a shield (a four year old child!) because she was afraid for her own safety. of all the despicable abuses Wendig introduces in the Aftermath trilogy (where it's a theme), the outrage Hux suffers strikes me as the worst. the only semi-autonomy he is ever given is the power to control and hurt other people. and again, he's four years old.

i have little hope that Hux will make it alive out this because he's the extreme case compared to Ben; Hux is what happens to children who have no light in their lives, nor hope for anything but enough power to stop others from beating on them.

i only hope that when he does die, it's with a modicum of dignity.
the way he was abused in TLJ was intolerable to me personally. : o p

I've started to hope that Hux will overthrow Ren with his own Knights of Ren. => Then Hux becomes an evil and ruthless Supreme Leader who tries to hunt down the Resistance and Kylo Ren.
To make it even worse Kylo Ren is now without friends. He lost the FO and don't want to become a part of the Resistance.
