How was Bad Batch as a whole show?

Now that you’ve seen all 16 episodes…. What did you think?

  1. Great! As good as Clone Wars and Rebels! No, BETTER!

  2. Good overall. But has filler episodes that brought it down.

So, now that you’ve watched all episodes of the Bad Batch, what was your main impression of the show IN GENERAL? Did it flow as one cohesive story? Does it rank with the other shows of past animated Star Wars efforts? Or was it somehow lacking?
I was torn by this show, personally.
On one hand, it is technically the best looking animated tv show Lucasfilm had ever done, even better than the BEST of the Clone Wars. It also had the best first-episode of any show Lucasfilm had done (Yes, I liked that pilot episode better than Mandalorian.)
However, I felt that the show-writers could not get the themes straight and in focus. There seemed to be lots of “dancing around” the question: “Do Clones fight for what’s right or stand with the Empire?” In turn, there seemed to be lots of missed moments with the “brotherhood” of Crosshair and the rest of the Bad Batch. Omega’s mystery seemed unnecessarily complicated. There also seemed to be a bit more filler than I would have liked to see.

I enjoyed the show simply because I had no preconceived expectations. The destruction of Kamino was unexpected. I would like to see how Omega progresses with TBB. I think her journey can be just as epic as Ahoska's monomyth. The show isn't as good or better than TCW, but an exceptional edition to the saga at large. I look forward to the continuing tale of TBB with great anticipation.

It had its good moments, and the characters were good albeit a bit predictable. Its much better then rebels but still well under clone wars. And there was an excessive amount of filler that dampened my enjoyment a little.

I wasn’t too hyped for the show at first, but then I really enjoyed the first few episodes… and then the show lost its luster again for me. I stopped keeping up with the show after the Ryloth episodes and didn’t finish the series until my current saga rewatch. I have to say that my opinion significantly improved being able to watch the whole season at once, though I still have qualms. For one, I still don’t feel like I know most of the characters well enough yet. Omega has the most characterization, but everyone else besides Crosshair or even Cid feels one note or like retreads of characters we’ve seen before. (Wrecker is the same strong brute trope as Zeb but even more on the nose, Hunter is a moodier/broodier Din Djarin and Tech and Echo are just there.) I also feel like the show hasn’t established its own identity yet in the way The Clone Wars and Rebels did in their first seasons.

Funny that I say that, because I do really like this show as a way of bridging the gap between two of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media: The Clone Wars and Rebels. It introduces a lot of interesting lore for the Kaminoans, clones and early Empire, and I’m excited to learn more next season. Part of me wishes that this show was just an anthology series that rotated between different characters each couple episodes; but hopefully they improve the characters next season. The animation is gorgeous and I’d say about half the season was really good while the other half was about mediocre. It’s got a long way to go to meet the greatness of TCW and Rebels but I think that it could make it there.

I enjoyed the first season for the most part and Crosshair in particular is one of the more intriguing characters in SW recently.

I enjoyed it more than I expected, especially some of the early season and mid season stuff.

I think it may some day be remembered as the weaker chapter in a strong Star Wars show, much like Rebels Season 1. I think Bad Batch has a ton of potential, but it often wasn't well tapped this time around- but with a season under its belt, I think S2 could be great.

Let me get this out of the way: the cinematography and overall animation was just stellar. The best yet. However, I'm finding that I need to go back and rewatch the series, as not a lot of it seems to have stuck with me. Kind of like, "watched it and moved on." As a previous poster said, maybe binge-watching it all together will yield a new, better appreciation. Like many, I went into TBB with zero expectations (not in a negative way -- maybe I should say neutral expectations) so I was just along for the ride. Never felt like it peaked or hit its ceiling of potential from a story perspective. But it took Rebels and TCW and season or so to really find their sea legs. I can't help but believe bigger and better things await TBB.

It was a good enough show to conclude this squad's role in TCW & what the galaxy was like during the start of Palpy's reign.
