i could die happy if this ever happened.

it would "fix" the one and only thing that ever bothered me about the OT as a child (that things are never so cleanly black and white, good vs. evil).

probably too much to hope for, but then i thought i was merely hoping against hope that Luke would ever be able to save Vader in ROTJ.

right, lucas said as much, and it was his idea for the PT to 'turn things on their head' so that the notion is challenged ; palpatine saying 'good and evil are points of view, anakin' (echoing kenobi's 'point of view' speeches in the OT)

it's hegalian synthesis, i'm sure it's what they're doing. i'm not sure what all happens anywhere else, but the ending above is probably what is coming. these writer types all stick with the same tropes because that's the meaning of the trope. guarenteed new jedi temple on tatooine, masters Rey and Ren. there will be green in the desert palette because obviously. luke will be there. it will be right after the "celebration scene" which will be the FO and the resistance beginning some peace talks with Hux and Leia's "stand in" (leia's dead at this point). kylo will look and have a vision of, at least Han and leia the force ghosts couple. then the camera pans upward to something in the sky. well, okay but it will at least be a celbration scene panning the camera upward.

but then the theme will start up. and, that scene above.

maybe they'll have a rey running "luke!" and she gets to the small incline and looks out to see luke disappearing into the binary sunset. maybe both kylo and rey? don't know, but the rest is future history.

    1. The thesis is an intellectual proposition. (episodes 4-6)
    2. The antithesis is simply the negation of the thesis, a reaction to the proposition. (episodes 1-3)
    3. The synthesis solves the conflict between the thesis and antithesis by reconciling their common truths and forming a new thesis, starting the process over. (episodes 7-9)

oh, don't kill Leia. let her live ~ hahaha

but yes, i hope the powers that be share this idea of narrative framework.
given that all the directors are about my age and experienced the OT probably very much as i did, i'd like to hope they came away with some of the same impressions, desires, and dreams.
TFA really makes me think so given the depth to which it resonated with me personally, so i am cheerfully optimistic.

even if that means Hux gets to live. hahaha ~ and why not. that would challenge my own biases in a good way.

to me, these are the givens which are sure to happen:

    1. han force ghost

    2. leia death

    3. rey/ren/snoke scene

    4. snoke death

    5. celebration

    6. ren sees han/leia force ghosts

    7. tatooine 'new jedi' temple with ren and rey. synthesis. balance. luke into binary sunset.

    8. binary sunset theme is the last musical track used in the trilogy (other than credit music)

everything else is blurry. not sure what the celebration is about. could be the resistance victory over snoke and the FO. could be mutual FO/resistance victory over snoke leading to a synthesis of government. it feels like it's the latter. but. maybe hux is killed and someone takes his place, like phasma. someone is definitely going to have to be in the next movies to replace leia after she goes. so if the latter, could be someone other than hux, whoever takes over after he is killed. but whatever is being celebrated, the celebration scene, is a given. it'll be there.

leai can't be separated from han, there has to be catharsis; the only way to do that is leia sacrificing herself for something. probably it is what turns kylo ren against snoke, and causes him to ally with rey in the final confrontation. that's when, obviously kylo will kill snoke. probably via a bottomless hole.

not sure if han will be a blue ghost right off the bat, or a voice first. feels like, a voice. probably, talking to, leia and maybe, kylo.

also feels like ren and rey will be looking into the binary sunset as luke disappears, but not a given.

feels like maybe a leia/kylo scene mirroring anakin/shmi in AOTC. "ben.. love.... love you..." then kylo ren "mother..." and that crazy music starts playing, and he looks up with the crazy eyes. feels like that

Perhaps at the very end Luke, Rey and Leia will manage what Luke was not able to ..
To learn egghead Kylo how to behave..
otherwise they should give him house arrest in one of this Ach-Too huts, where he has to listen to Yoda's force ghost as long as it takes to learn.. (and if that isn't enough as long as it takes to learn talk with the same sentence style like Yoda himself..:" Ok Mum PLEASE out of the hut you let me!")

..because deep in his heart, Kylo knows what he deserves (Copyright by Dolores Umbridge, HP 5)..seriously:)

This thread got me somewhat emotional. I want the final ending line of the last film to be "And remember the force will be with you, always" :')

Star wars will never "end" however I think these will be the last final set of movies. The three star wars stories and the Three main movies.

Rey will be a jedi at the end of ep IX. This trilogy will end on that.

    Agreed about Rey.

I'm reminded of Lor San Tekka's comment that "Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force."

I think his comment will come to fruition at the end of Ep IX. Balance will be restored.

I'm still undecided as to whether or not Kylo Ren will be redeemed at the end of IX. It's still too early to tell. I think it would be interesting if he wasn't.

I hate to say it.....but as always the Resistance will win and there will be a Republic....unless they want to do something totally different and continue these amazing movies.

I think you're right, I don't think Star Wars will ever really end, but the sequels will be the final trilogy, and it will bring the OT and the PT together.

I like the idea about the ending on Tatooine, sort of like the place it all began. Rey and Ren will reconcile, and if I'm right, and Rey is a Kenobi, it would be a great ending if the Kenobis and the Skywalkers finally achieved peace. They will have to work together to defeat the greater evil. Rey and Ren will follow Luke to Ben's old hut. And when all is said and done, Luke will stare off into the binary sunset as he did in ANH, but not with that desire for adventure in his eyes, he will seem at peace, like he has achieved what he was meant to achieve. I don't think Han will appear as a Force ghost, after all he was never a Jedi, but we may hear his voice. Luke will have memories about his life in a series of Force ghost images. Then he'll have visions of his father and finally he'll turn around and walk back towards Rey and Ren. No more looking away to the future. He is finally ready to let go of his past. Anyway that'll probably never happen but it's what I would do!

It should end I think with a reformed Jedi Order, that is more open minded and "grey" with Rey as their leader and with Finn and Poe in charge of politics and the military.

If their is a second ST I hope a new Sith faction will arise from the depths of Korriban (better name than Moriband!!!) and have and crush the New Republic MUHAHAHA!!!

I really hope SW will end with the galaxy waking up to realization that there's no need for Jedi and Sith. If you look at it, every major galactic-wide conflict was directly caused by power greedy Sith or self-righteous sherif Jedi force. All these people and aliens suffered and died, the whole worlds were destroyed, because of this struggle between two opposing religious groups. I think Luke realized it even before TFA, that's why he went onto exile. My prediction for VIII is, he will train Rey in order to defeat Kylo and Snoke but will refuse to take any more students, restore the Jedi Order. I think Rebels are pointing to that (Ashoka, Kanan, Ezra, Maul - not really being Jedi nor Sith), as well as new characters that are deeply connected to the Force, yet with no allegiance to either side: Lor San Tekka, Maz.

I have always had a problem with an idea of balance in the Force understood as the total victory of Jedi, its soo one sided.

and yes, IX HAS TO end with binary sunset on Tatooine and Luke walking towards it (The Last Crusade anyone?)

The only way it could end is by the last jedi dying off and no other jedi or sith left alive. Literally all force users are dead and the ways of the force dies with them...

I'm one of those people who wants EPIX to be the last episode movie... At least the end of the Skywalker saga.

I want Star Wars to end like the adventure began in the first place. On Tatooine with Luke Skywalker.

    I suggest the following:

We are at the exact same place where the 'Binary Sunset' scene took place. But now an older Luke is watching the sunset. Suddenly Rey appears next to him and they look together - without exchanging words - at the suns. In the background we see a newly built Jedi-Tempel.

    END

    Alternative Version:

Instead of Luke, we see Rey watching the suns and then the redeemed Ben Solo appears next to her...

I don't think Star Wars will end, but I think this is how the current trilogy will end.

In Ep 8, Luke trains Rey, but during her training she feels a disturbance in the Force. She realises that Finn is in trouble and rushes off for a rescue. She saves Finn but is captured herself by Kylo and Snoke. Who eagerly divulge who her parents are in an effort to turn her against Luke. She defies them but the seed of doubt is there. They twist the truth, and Kylo sees the eagerness that Snoke has in turning Rey and starts to have doubts.

The doubts multiply until Kylo becomes Ben again, and ends up saving Finn and Rey from Snoke.

Rey and Luke have a confrontation, where Luke sadly tells her the truth he's been hiding. This almost pushes Rey over the edge, but Obi-Wan or Yoda appears as a Force Ghost to explain to Rey why Luke had to do what he did. And that her lineage doesn't matter, and doesn't define her either. (I'm going with She's not Luke's kid, but Luke knew her parents)

Leia is killed by an assassin sent by Snoke. It's someone in her inner circle who does it. They try to escape but R2 and BB8 capture them. Luke interrogates the assassin who tries to goad Luke in to giving in to his rage by taunting him that he's Darth Vader's son. Luke doesn't respond, but calmly questions the assasin. Luke warns the assassin that there's a wookie who's lost two people he considered he owed a life debt to, and now they're both gone, and he's demanding to interrogate the killer. The assassin doesn't believe Luke. Luke gets up to leave and walks for the door as Chewie walks in. Chewie gives Luke a mournful hug and an affectionate tussle of the hair. The door shuts, we hear a bark, and an assassin screaming that he'll tell him anything....(Chewie may have a hold of his arm at this point....)

Poe has been running missions for the Resistance along with Chewie and Finn. And they make quite a good crew, they end up having to rescue a bunch of captured resistance and senate members who've been taken prisoner by the First Order. Chewie is still heartbroken about Han's death and is determined to make the First Order suffer. However he goes to far and is critically injured in the process. He survives, but has a prosthetic arm.

The Resistance and what's left of the new republic find where the first order base really is, and goes all in with everything they have. There is a ferocious battle in space and on the ground, and we see just how good a pilot Poe is! It could even be said that he has some Force powers of his own....

Rey and Ben take part in the ground battle, while Luke faces Snoke alone. Snoke is terrified as we see how powerful in the Force Luke has become. Rey and Ben see Luke fighting Snoke, and Ben realises that if he wanted to, Luke could have easily killed him before. We see the Force used in a way we've never seen so far in ANY of the films or novels. Snoke is defeated, and Luke guided by the Force itself, removes all power from Snoke, leaving him simply a husk of a man. Luke turns to walk away as Snoke tries on last time to attack but Ben ends up killing Snoke defending Luke.

The Force is no longer in chaos, and Snokes hold on the First Order has disappeared. Hux escapes to regions unkown to try and rebuild the First Order.

The trilogy ends, with Luke walking through the new Jedi Academy and he sees Ben teaching younglings. At this point we see a force ghost of Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda as they finally find peace in the Force and disappear forever (maybe...)

But long winded, but that's what I have right now....There will be another trilogy, but the original characters will be support characters in the next one.

I really think that by the time SW ends (if it ever ends) it is going to have expanded into something much larger than the Jedi vs Sith conflict so there is really no way to be sure.

I agree, I think there will really be no immediate end, and I'm glad, I wouldn't want one.
