lets see what has to be covered:

    Battle of Jakku
How the falcon got where it is.
    Hux being so high ranking
    Rey's parentage
    Finn's origin
    Poe's mission
    BB-8's intro
    The crawl
2 minutes of logos (my buddy John Harrison tipped me off)
At least 6 minutes of credits
    Snoke
Why Rebels are now called resistance
    Luke
    Maz's introduction and chunks exposition
R2D2 & his C3PO (100 credits to anyone who gets that joke)
    Starkiller base..and why
    More Luke stuff..
Kylo and the Knights who say Ren!
The fact that Yoda was the Lindbergh baby
Why JJ & KK refused to release the full trailer for so long, and then opened the floodgates of info immediately
plus at least 5 action set pieces
A few of the usual JJ "humor" scenes (see Kirk, Scotty and the Water pipes. Ethan Hunt using a Kmart radio and "we are family" to escape the IMF)

I'm not saying the movie should have been 3 hours, but that's a lot to ask of a movie that will be roughly 120 minutes of real footage. Max.

What do y'all think will be rushed and what will get enough time?

After the OP post Im starting to get worried. He is right, too much to show and tell. I wish TFA would be slower, in a rithym similiar to ANH and TESB.

I'd break the movie down like this:

    1st Act - Jakku
    2nd Act - Pirate transport + Takodana
    3rd Act - Starkiller assault/rescue mission

Assuming each act is approximately 1/3rd of the movie, that leaves us with about 45 minutes for each...
I'm just going to guess that the 1st act will be the longest, and the 2nd will be the shortest.

Don't expect The Forces Awakens to explain everything that has changed in the galaxy since Return of the Jedi. I believe The Force Awakens will take place "in media res". There will be a lot of material to establish the setting, which won't necessarily be explained in much detail, just as it was in ANH. Lucasfilm have established the Story group for this very purpose. Things which aren't of particular importance to the story will be left for books, games, anthology films, and TV series.

There's a few things which probably won't be covered in any detail, if any at all:
    - The Battle of Jakku (any mention of it will be about as much as the Clone wars was mentioned in ANH, except this time there's a lot of physical reminders of it on the planet)
    - Finn's origin/family (I think finding his family will become Finn's motiviation in Episode VIII/IX)
    - Hux' rise up the ranks (unless he's super important, this will be covered in books)
    - Snoke will probably remain a mystery even after the movie (if he is Darth Plageuis, we probably won't even find out for sure until Episode VIII or IX). I don't expect him to have much screentime at all in the movie
    - I don't expect them to say much about why they are called "The Resistance." I think we are more likely to learn about why the bad guys are now called "The First Order" but even that probably isn't that likely.

You're absolutely right. We won't get an answer for every question. Would be stupid and useless.

    poor Jar Jar.......

You know my kids always liked him when the prequels came out. It is basically us fan boys/girls old school people that really get bothered by him.

Now older, my son talks about Jar Jar and how he gets a bad wrap.

Lucas centered the prequels around 5-12 year olds and J.J. is centering it around what worked the first time around...

True. I am from that same generation. I was 9 years old when TPM came out and at the time i loved Jar Jar. Now I do not mind him.
But I like to see myself as some weird generation that grew up with the OT (really i strtaed watching Star Wars when i was 4 years old, hooked from the first minute) and then the PT became a part of it as well, but I still knew as a kid that eventhough TPM looked shiny and awesome (remember i was a kid :p ) the OT were still my favorites.

The Resistance will be covered in the crawl and can be done in one sentence. Something like....not trusting the intent of the First Order and their intentions, a group called the Resistance led by General Leia Organa has separated from the Republic...
