How would you introduce Star Wars to someone new?

Say you have a chance to present SW to someone who has never seen any of it before. What would you do?

Here’s what I would do: Explain the background about the Force, the Jedi, and the Sith, leading up to the Sith hiding in the Republic. I think I would probably just tell them that Sidious is Palpatine. I would also inform them that I know Gungans are kind of divisive, and I hope they will like them, but even if they don’t, please hang in there. Then I would show them Episodes 1-3, then Rogue One, then 4-6. I would tell them that they are free to watch The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Solo on their own time if they wish.

Then I would use a Jedi mind trick to convince them the ST doesn’t exist. :D

It’s still a little too early for me to decide what I would do with The Mandalorian, but I’m impressed with what we have seen so far.

I'm convinced watching 1-3 before 4-5 (plus 6, in a lesser way) is not the best way to be introduced to SW.
It will be later, when one knows the story. Binging from 1 to 6 may be a good thing, but not for the first time.
    Here are my reasons why:

    1. it is not the way the saga has been filmed. You can think whatever you want: the technological gap between 3 and 4 is a disaster, mainly when you jump from Obi and Anakin in their prime fighting on Mustafar, to the fight Vader-Ben aboard the Death Star...... also when you compare the special effects, mainly the explosions, they seem out of date in ANH. Nearly it seems "SW Holidays Special" comedy like. Right after ROTS it seems very pale...
    2. the story that is told is more appealing in 4-6 because it speaks of hope. 1-3 is more of a diving into hell and a fall (the fall of Anakin).
    3. Of course, the family ties that exist between Luke, Leia, and Vader.

    My personal take:
    - First, watch episodes 4 then 5. Ends on Han being emprisonned ("encarbonited" :) ) and Rebellion being nearly crushed by Empire.
    - Then make a 40 years jump back in the past, and discover what led to Vader and the Empire, as we now know Luke is his son: episodes 1 to 3.
    - Then comes Rogue One (and the Vader scene).
    - Now, let us watch the grand finale: episode 6.
    - Once the main story is told, barely tell the person that he/she's free to watch Solo and The Mandalorian and what he/she will get.
    - If the person is less than 15, tell him/her about TCW, TBB, Rebels and, why not, Resistance.

There are already a few threads on this, for example: https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/ideal-movie-viewing-order.9874/page-4

My suggestion, for new-to-SW viewers, would be to watch things in release order. That's the order in which the films were made and make the most sense story & storytelling wise. (Some OT expositions are superfluous if you watch PT first, many OT character introductions and surprises gets watered down if you've already watched PT, weird to see hyperspace jump-effect for the first time in ANH when you've never seen it before in the PT, etc. etc.)

Therefore, for the very first viewing, I would go:
    ANH, TESB, RotJ,
    TPM, AotC, RotS,
    TFA, TLJ, TRoS
    .
This is the core and nucleus of Star Wars, and all other canon stuff isn't needed for the first viewing.

On consecutive viewings, however, there's a lot of options, and personally, I would suggest:
    TPM, AotC, (TCW*) RotS, (TBB*),
    S:ASWS, (SW:R*),
    Ro + ANH, TESB, RotJ,
    TM + TBoBF,
    (R.s1*), TFA, (R.s2*), TLJ, TRoS.
This list will, of course, forever change as new movies and shows are released.
*There's SO much of this, so you might want to hold off on these animated shows for a while, just to avoid oversaturation and confusion, particularly for the second marathon viewing.

I would do the machete order (which seems to be the best way to watch SW)

    4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9

I mention 7-9 because they probably won't be tainted with the expectations of the Old EU and probably receive the Sequels differently. If they still like the series, I would show them RO and Solo and all of the other shows except for The Resistance and The Bad Batch. The Resistance doesn't add anything to the table like TCW and Rebels does and the Bad Batch as of now is pointless unless they want to see nothing but set up for future plot points that doesn't get resolved in the first season.

Start at the beginning, Star Wars 1977. That’s the movie that was built to handhold somebody into the universe.

It’s purposely designed with a narrow scope that gradually widens, introducing the audience to new concepts as it goes, incrementally teaching you about how the galaxy works. Personally, I haven’t seen any other installment in the series that’s done a better job. Everything else just assumes you already got a handle on it. ANH is “your first step into a larger world”.

I wouldn't tell them anything and just let them make their own minds up instead of trying to impose my own experience and biases on them.

I definitely wouldn't want to pre-empt their viewing with superfluous background details and plot spoilers and risk ruining it for them.

I agree with @Martoto - just let them watch the one that started it all. If they liked and enjoyed it, then they can watch the rest.
