Humour seems to be one of the top conversations about TLJ and whether some of us liked it or not, I think we all have to agree that Rian Johnson was generous with the amount of it.

Some humour elements were spot on, some other felt out of place.

I will try to write down as many as I remember and I will categorize them as GOOD and BAD.

    THE GOOD

    - Rose and Finn scene in the escape pod
    - Chewie baking the porg scene
    - Luke's feather
    - BB-8 shooting chips at the officers
    - The caretakers
    - Yoda's sense of humour

    THE BAD

    - Poe's prank call
    - Luke throwing the saber away
    - Luke milking
    - Hux in the battle of Crait repeating Kylo's commands
    - Small alien harassing BB-8 in the Casino

I hope I don't forget anything and I would like your thoughts about these scenes.

I am also posting a poll, because maybe it is only my thought that the humour was a bit too much.

I agree with your choices, except...

I didn't really like that one, especially since the porg was making the Puss in Boots eyes, which made it obvious where the idea came from. It felt artificial.

I thought that was hilarious. Everyone was waiting to see what he's going to do, and he was like...."Screw it!" Subversion of expectations at its finest lol

I liked that, I thought it fit well given Hux's personality.

I loved the prank call. Hux takes himself so seriously, as do many imperials (remember Han Solo in IV) it fit in perfectly.

The light saber throw away was also something I liked. Everyone made a big deal in VII about "oh my gosh it's the ORIGINAL light saber that Obi-Wan gave Luke!" And here he is like, "Ah F@#k it, not this again!!!" It really was a major clue about the fact that he was going to push this film into uncharted territory.

Luke milking I didn't find humorous, except the way he looked at Rey as he drank it down. I just thought it showed how he was surviving on this island.

I literally laughed at the caretakers and BB-8 with the coins and with Poe. That was it.

    Things like general Hugs...

    "Eyerolls"

    Far too marvel level.

Irvin Kershner said it best on his idea of humor in ESB, “I needed humor, but I couldn’t have gags.”

These are all gags, and sometimes it takes you out of the movie altogether. If humor isn’t natural in a movie, it never works.

    Good

    - Caretakers were funny
    - branch/reach out
    - such spunk/boomerang hilt
    - Kylo, the very 1st time Hux repeats the orders, the confused/angry/wtf stare meant everything.
    - Porgs made me laugh when they mocked Rey following the branch scene
    - (unintended) everytime somebody mentions the f*cking spark
    - (unintended) super Leia, the 1st time
    - Snoke transforming Hux into a stiff board  wow ! I feel pain everytime I see that , and the sound following the face-plant ... it's a wow + funny feeling for me. (poor Hux, that was worse than anything Kylo threw at him)

    Bad

    - Chewie scene would've been better imo with only one shot of the porgs, no need to transition 3 times I get the joke guys, they're cute...
    - Poe holding for Hux, I wanted him to get the Lor San Tekka treatment right after the "who talks 1st" scene in TFA. With this one I wish Kylo would've just TIE Silenced his way behind Poe and shoot him.
    - BB-8 stuff
    - Kylo force pushing Hux was not necessary, although I enjoyed everything before that (that felt like Marvel, thor + hulk , loki + hulk)

Stuff I'm not sure was supposed to be funny

    - Luke drinking the milk is showing a routine, I didn't get more out of it, the face he throws at Rey is funny but I just don't think RJ thought "omg they're gonna love that, they'll be dyin' in there haha"
    - Same with Luke throwing the saber. It felt more like a "here's his reaction, take whatever you want from it".

The humour set a tone for the movie, don't know if I think it would've been better without it. I tend to prefer things a bit darker or more serious but at least they tried. I can't think of single funny moment from TFA though... Actually yes but nothing intended.

I found the humour on point and fine for me, and hoping to see more. It didn't feel marvel-ish to me, and was distinctly Star Wars-y. It's a new addition and we'll get used to it and hopefully the humour in future films will developed too as what a Star Wars-y humour is supposed to be.

Biggest laughs in my theater viewings...

    Porgs and Chewy campfire scene.
    Porgs on the Falcon.
Kylo throwing Hux into the wall and the captain saying "right away sir".
Luke flicks the dust off he shirt.
    Hux and Poe's opening.

Completely agree, and for me, when the gags were used (especially the opening with Poe/Hux) I didn't find it hitting the mark. Rogue One for me has had the best blend from the new era of SW films.

    the (very) BAD :
    - the phone call + "we should have done this 5 minutes ago" (waaaay too long, ruins the tension, and there is no point making Hux look so dumb)
    - the "Where are you from ? Nowhere" stuff (not bad per se, but it completely ruins the atmosphere)
    - the second janitor line : wasn't funny the first time, was infuriating here (especially given how the movie treated Finn's character overall)
    - BB-8 becoming ultra-badass : turned a cute pet into an unsufferable "Scrappy"

(i also find the Finn going around butt-naked distasteful, but Boyega's impressive dignity given the circumstances just made me respect the character more : just for that, it can stay)

    the GOOD :
    - Luke tossing the saber : i don't even consider it a joke, it's just him being 100% in-character
    - Hux repeating Kylo's order : same
    - "You think you got him" ?
    - the Porgs using the Force mind-trick on Chewie (i especially like their creepy "entrance")
    - the caretakers
    - Hux's let-me-draw-my-blaster-oups-nevermind moment
    - "These were the sacred Jedi texts !"

Exactly, humor has to flow through the characters personalities. RJ admitted he purposely put in humor to keep the movie light, and that’s why it sticks out. Not every character can pull off humor, so it has to written naturally for them.

Most of the humor worked for me because it was in character. I can believe that Poe would troll Hux because that fits with the rest of his characterization.

It would have worked perfectly in an Austin Powers movie with Dr. Evil.

I wish I could remember everything. But most of it was fine and funny.

And what I liked about the milk scene is Rey's face goes from smiling to disgusted. That is what is so funny about it.

When she follows him around all the time and then tells him he's not that busy. Funny.

There was this part where the big mouse droid hits the stormtroopers leg or something like that. It wasn't that funny.
