I don't really see what's so wrong with it.

Even if one considered Rey was a "Mary Sue" in TFA, one would also have to assume that TFA was the entire story of Rey. There's room for growth in the two other movies.

Considering, as has already been pointed out, that the first act of a trilogy is generally the more idyllic one, I think we can safely assume that our characters are going to be a whole lot more wholesome (at least, relatively speaking) than by the end of the thing.

Only time will tell, of course, but ignoring the effect that 2/3s of the trilogy could have on Rey's character seems like a poor choice.

No, she's not a Mary Sue. She's an 18 year old who has been living alone, in self-preservation mode on a miserable, dangerous, desert world with little to no resources for over a decade. She's scrounged for food without assistance, fought off people who have sought to do her harm, and spent years learning the skills she has to near perfection because she has no other choice. She's spent the majority of her life investigating the ruins of the Battle of Jaku, and in that time, a long time, discovered how to manipulate and fix electronic devices. Do people have so little skills that they find this hard to believe? I can learn a new skills within days or weeks. Imagine if I were struggling to survive for a decade how resourceful I could be. People need more imagination or analytical skills if they're going to argue against Rey's skills.
And in addition to all I've said, she has a very strong connection to the force which augments her abilities beyond that of a normal scavenger.

Sorry....can't have a logical conversation with someone who doesn't have the brainpower to read a little to try to defend their arguments. Have a nice day. :)

Nice try but no cigar. If there was something that Luke REALLY lacked was perfection. Let's answer your arguments using what the movies showed us and not just blind arguments to defend Rey. First of I have to say you are wrong on both your comments about Luke destroying the DS with the force with only hours of training and flying an advanced fighter. By the time Luke got to the battle of Yavin he was already an excellent pilot. His skill was such that when a fellow pilot said that the trench shot was impossible, Luke answered that he used to bullseye womp rats in his T-16 back home and that they weren't much bigger than two meters. Luke already had the skills and all that the Force did was guide him at something he was already good at. Here you can see why Luke was such a good pilot with an X-Wing:
    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.png

After the battle of Yavin, THREE full years went by and all Luke had done was learn how to pull his lightsaber with the Force and nothing more. Three years man and the guy didn't learn squat but just how to pull a lightsaber and you want to justify a girl that learned how to pull thoughts out of a trained Dark Jedi, learned how to use mind tricks to give a Trooper THREE different commands, beat a trained Jedi in a Force pull battle and was loosing a fight and learned on the fly how to use the Force to boost her own abilities to win the fight? All of that in a mear few hours and you want to argue that Luke pulled a lightsaber after three years of knowing what the Force was and even having a Force Ghost to guide him?

And if you saw Luke turn into a Jedi Master after Yoda trained him then we must have seen different movies because in ROTJ Yoda made it so hard on Luke that he made it perfectly clear that he wasn't even a regular Jedi until he took down Vader. If you had the smarts as a kid to think Luke wasn't a believable character, how then as an adult you can justify and find logic in such an incredibly overpowered character as Rey who has defied everything the OT and the PT have shown us about the Jedi and the use of the Force?

Ps: Regarding Luke being perfect, the guy took a hit in the DS battle an was about to get killed by Vader needing Han to save his but, he got mauled by a Wompa, shot down by an AT AT, crashed his ship on Dagobah, failed various times in his training, lost to Vader and got his hand cut off, got shot in the robotic hand and underestimated the Emperor to the point that if it weren't for his father he would have been killed. If that is being perfect then what is Rey? A god?

    Remember, let's be respectful.

Let's also remember that I did address your post, so I feel this is a bit hypocritical of you.

I give respect to those that do the same to me.
Yes that's right because it's perfectly fair to enter a friendly conversation and have a person treat a lady like if her words were just too boring to read and that is not a sign of disrespect in your book but my comment was right? Then to top it off you take your own jab at me by accusing me of being a hypocrite just because you are defending him.

That's fine. Greylo probably should have read your post if she was going to address it.

I'm just saying, if you were here for a discussion about your post, I had provided you with a response, if you still wanted one.

Little Ani was a mary sue too! He was a slave who owned his own droid and podracer. He and his mom lived in a pretty sweet apartment for slaves. He won the podrace without ever even finishing before. He could pilot a starfighter with no problem, destroying the capitol ship. Among other things. I haven't watched TPM in a while. He's no less a mary sue than Rey.

Rey is second child of Han Solo and Leia Organa.Debate over.

Any negative ratings to my statement including Kylo and Dooku will be recorded and politely reminded to appologize after this will be shown in the film.

If this isn't true I oblige to walk naked as sandwich man carrying no text on my front and on my back text "I am Mary Sue".

Fair enough but we will need photo evidence :D

In return if she is then I will put her n my old X Wing pilot cosplay with Rey is a Mary Sue on it

Of course whoever she is she is no more a Mary Sue then pretty much every 80 & 90 action film star IMHO

Ok ,you touched my heart. Its not fair from my side to make a bid because I know Rey is second child of Han And Leia. But if people will know that this is not a joke debate will be over,so..I really lost myself in the context..of that photo documentation.

Sorry if you don't like the way I do things Royle but I believe in mutual respect. Be fair when you judge others and don't blindly defend others just because we have had past disagreements because I'm pretty sure that seeing how you have debated with many people here before, if it had been you who would have written alot and I would have told you that I didn't even bother reading your post because it was too long, your response would have been WAY more harsh than mine.

So because someone doesn't want to read a wall of text you call them lacking brainpower but espouse on about respect?
    Give me a break.

If you didn't want to read a long post of mine, I wouldn't give two shits.
You got upset over me using the term Space Jesus.

Don't sit here and try to take some moral superiority argument.

    @Lady Oola @Merman
I forgot to return to this thread, you should have tagged me if you talk about me :)

Appologies if I seemed rude, 'twas not my intention. It was simply a wall of text that seemed excessive to read cuz Lady Oola chose to ignore the most blatant reason why Rey as a charachter can not be considered a Mary Sue. Rey's story is not over. Period. Can't draw definite conclussions of her charachter if you dont have all the facts. That kind of reasoning is faulty and nothing you could have said after that brings value to discussion that at this point is completely misplaced. If done in any other manner but joking one.

Now we all know that you addressing me in a derrogative manner and not my point is wrong, but im not arrogant to take offense to that and pay you back in kind. I dont do that.:) you do what you do, i do what i do. But a little advice, try not to get so offended and try to take people with best intentions in mind :)

Btw I agree with everything @RoyleRancor said on the topic. Thank you, I appreciate you having my back.
Now...I remembered a major screw up of Rey...she had herself caught and tied down to a chair....whoops quite a failling i would say. If this is the proof why Poe is not a Mary Sue than it certainly is a proof why Rey isnt one, do you agree Royle? I mean...if not then we would have sexist double standards and ohmfg that woukd just be a bummer!
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 29, 2017, Original Post Date: Jul 29, 2017 ---
I did not do any addressing just replying the prior addressment by the adresser therefore the etiquette clearly states i am not obliged to read long rants if my limited brainpower is more pleasingly engaged in a private conversation of a flirty nature :D
    Lol...a question though...is this a serious debate? :D

I was just thinking the same!! Boy...i wanna be a slave on dantooine....beats being a scavenger on jakku. That appartment is bigger than mine btw :p
