When Poe and Finn crashed on Jakku, Poe was nowhere to be found. Suddenly he's flying an Xwing on Takodata. I didn't buy his explanation to Finn. How'd he get off the planet? Something smells fishy.

The novelisation expands on it a bit more. He ejects after Finn, and then gets picked up by a scavenger who helps him out. Hopefully a deleted scene that we'll see on the blu-ray/dvd

I doubt they filmed that scene. But as with a lot of stuff in this film, the quick explanations feel a bit... incomplete.

I doubt they filmed it... I doubt they ever planned on showing it in the film (at least, by the time they started filming).
They would have had to get Oscar Isaac to Abu Dhabi for one really minor, unimportant scene...

@theborgv; This seems to be a recurring theme. I expect much the same will occur with Maz Kanata and Captain Phasma, whose fates were left in limbo, but whom we know to have survived.

@ArynCrinn; The Force Awakens had an enormous budget. If that is something they wanted to do to advance that plot, that is definitely something they could have done.

Poe explained what happened and leaves little to the imagination. What could make it more complete?

JJ Recently confirmed that at the Tie Fighter Escape scene Poe Dameron WAS meant to have died but JJ saw a lot of potential in Oscar and Poe and decided to turn him in to a main character. For me he is most certainly that, Amazing character!

Poe is awesome! Hope he (and Phasma) emerge in episode 8 as more rounded characters.

Read that too some time ago, not that Poe was destined to die, but that they extended the character arc because of Oscars performance. Changed while principal photography. If it is right what you wrote xLYNDOG, the scene we saw with the Tie crash makes complete sense, just like it is in the movie. Further proof of some on the fly changes which created a disturbance in the narrative.
btw this is something that happens on nearly every movie production on a daily basis and of course to improve the movie, character, setting or dialogue at hand. The director is responsible for never getting the grand scheme out of his thinking, not the writer or someone else, in order to counter follow up problems of an on the fly change.

    Yea
h because Isaac was really bummed out about being what is essentially a cameo in the movie but I'm so happy he made it. Favourite character! I just hope he makes more of an appearence in EP 8 seeing as he actually destroyed Starkiller!

But does it explain why and how he took his jacket off? Or do we have to assume he took it off after landing and the wind just blew it there?

I was sure that Luke found him injured & unconscious in the desert, and saved him just like Obi-wan had saved Luke. :) (I still like my theory better than what happened, lol). But you're right that something is fishy- even the explanation in the book makes no sense. Here's what Poe thinks when he wakes up after crash-landing:

He was alive on the surface of Jakku. Alive and alone. There was no way of telling if Finn had been as fortunate. More important, where was BB-8?

The droid could take care of himself, he felt. Poe knew if he could just get off world and reconnect with the Resistance, a way could be found to recover the droid.

This, to me, makes no sense. Poe is absolutely desperate to get back to Jakku and find BB-8, even over the strong (and completely reasonable) objections of Finn, but then once he's there he thinks, "The droid could take care of himself," and he gets off of Jakku as quickly as possible. Wut?

the way I saw it; by the time he made it out of the desert (so hot he left his jacket) Rey and Finn had already escaped with the Falcon. With the first order presence on the planet he decided to lay low for a while, contacted some resistance friendly types or pirates or whatever after and hyperspaced his way back to the resistance. Simple. Wouldn't read too much into it.

ooh didnt saw that coming.. VERY GOOD point indeed! there is a lot of mirroring element that totally makes sense: Finn comes form trooper to rebel hero, Poe from.. ace Rebel pilot to traitor/spy? that would explain why they escape so easily.. and also Finn/Poe instant friendship could really developp in trust issues and so on.. would be nice to have that kind of developpement, and again we saw that in ESB right? Lando being the traitor? very SW indeed! nice one.

When Poe wakes up he has a concussion, at first he doesn't remember anything (why is he wandering through the desert) then things start coming back to him.

    About jacket specifically:

Poe Decameron doesn't need a reason to survive.
He's Poe Decameron - a tremendous hero with a small bladder.
    Wait that wasnt a sentence. . .

This should be the answer to anyone question this or any JJ film.

"Don't read too much into it"

Just enjoy the ride for 2 hours, and hit delete in the old thinking box. Just find a spot on the screen and let it happen.

Plot hole? Don't read too much into it.

Characters not acting at all like themselves? Don't read too much into it.

Magic droid? Don't read too much into it.

Why did that character say that to that character? Don't read too much into it.

If all that happened, why didn't we see it? Don't read too much into it.

How do I add a signature?
