I agree with you 100% it really looks like he is a great guy and I guess good to work with.
Thats why I'am disappointed, because he is not really in TFA. (a wasted opportunity in my opinion)

Really, of all of the dozens of comments and spoiler free reviews, I've seen maybe one person mentioned the story. But often times the story is not laking when someone complains about it. In my experience it is one of two things: either the person does not understand the nuances of the story (or take story points for granted) or they simply don't like it. Now, since I have not seen the movie yet, and it would seem neither have you, neither of us should comment on it one way or the other.

Based on what I do know, it would seem like a very rich story with even more potential going forward. And with all of these characters you can't tell me there isn't much of a story.

Luke had to go to make room for the new characters.
The problem is, the new characters don't sound all that great.

Don't worry about it, it's probably just all of the prequel lovers who are jealous we got a real movie this time

This seems worse than the prequels.

No. The prequals were boring, terrible acted, and no fun. The script is horrible and fake. Sure it is unique, but you don't want to watch it.

This is the opposite. Its not unique at all really, but it seems a TON of fun to watch. Visuals, Acting, The potential For VIII. Heck we got an amazing performace from han solo. And next will be Luke skywalker.

This is not worse than the prequals in my opinion. I WANT to watch this movie.

Low Blow number two, but somehow I like it. (It's rude and honest at the same time)
I understand that many disappointed fans need to blow off some steam.

If TFA is ANH 1:1 remake, which role does Luke play? (If Han is Obi Wan)
It's plausible that there is no space for him in ANH 1:1 remake.

I said it all along... It can be the best blockbuster in history but still be an awful Star Wars movie. I pray that I love it though, I really do.

But damnit I cannot accept the lack of Luke.. how they've held him back like a bargaining chip when he is the soul of the saga in my eyes.

I feel genuinely upset that J.J. has done some of things he has done... barely any Luke and no on-screen reunion with Luke and Han.. no prequel/sequel planets.. unmemorable Williams score and the carbon copy A New Hope plot, this is sounding really horrendous so far outside the production values.

I rooted for J.J. from the start, I jumped for joy when he was announced.. he was my only hope.

Now all I can do is cling on to the hope that somehow... it'll fit together and make me happy in the cinema.

Avoiding spoilers is impossible at this point, i'm out

When it was announced that Disney was purchasing the rights to Star Wars and would start making movies again, I was pissed. The prequels, while still having good parts, were a big letdown to me and I didn't want to see one of my favorite things in the world dragged through the mud again and be disappointed.

I was really concerned about the writing and acting, as well as the whole feel of a new movie. It was bad in the prequels and makes it difficult to rewatch them. Therefore, I'm ok with how this story has played out because we're going to get some very good acting and writing. Is it disappointing that the story is similar? Yes, and if you were anticipating something brand new I totally understand the anger.

That being said, I saw the writing on the wall this summer and right now I'm just happy that it seems like we're getting a really good movie that will be a foundation for more creative works.

Hopefully we can all find something we love about TFA.

They can't go risky, that would be crazy. I think Rian Johnson has such an amazing script for Episode VIII; and that is where we will get our next bold and original Star Wars movie. I'm super hyped to see this set up film.

It's possibly the most bizarre movie I have ever seen. I can't begin to describe the ineptitude it must have taken to make this film. Truly horrendous and I am heartbroken. So many missed opportunities. However, Adam Driver is mesmerising.

Had your expectations a tad too high I think?
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 17, 2015, Original Post Date: Dec 17, 2015 ---
What really is bizarre is the drastic difference between peoples experiences with this movie. There is one movie right? You guys are all seeing the same movie? It's just bizarre. One guy says it's the best SW film since TESB; while another guy says it's the most dissapointing thing since TPM. What the hell is going on? Are we in the twilight zone? lol I guess I'll find out on Friday.

Oh come on! It's a bad movie. Once the dust settles, people will see it for what it is. I was bored after the first 30 mins. The original cast were a let down. Boyega and Ridley were good but I didn't really care about them. Snoke was utterly embarrassing. It just didn't feel like Star Wars. I expected better than the PT, what we got was TPM Mark II.

I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact that the movie doesn't open with Luke's severed hand floating through space, clutching a light saber and landing on the surface of Jakku.

Now THAT is a missed opportunity.
