    So ...
I been thinkin' on this here, right ?
    I'll say this much,
firstly, just Speakin' for me, I learnt my lesson after we were given Solo (iwas one that was sayin' early on, why ?). I won't do that no more.
Secondly, like Steele Saunders, I Do Love Star Wars.
I feel no have no 'ownership' to it nor of it. And so I don't hold on to it so tightly.
Not for me ta say how or what a Story be told nor what any character should do, say nor act.

Initially I feared the Solo movie would just be a cinematic checklist. And that's what we got. But as more and more news about the film came out and seeing all the talent involved, my fears turned to excitement. And in the end we got a really fun movie.

Now TPTB have shown that it's possible to make a fun film, even though many storybeats were expected, I'm really curious how a Obi-Wan film will turn out. Others have stated that a film about a person who intentionally hides on a barren planet for 19 years probably won't be that exciting.

So my theory (if you will) about a possible Obi-Wan film playing out, will look like this:

The film starts with an old Kenobi doing his daily rituals (a la Luke in TLJ). At one moment he encounters something, be it a person or something else. This makes him remember events of his past, which we'll get to see as flashbacks. Hopefully scenes happening before TPM, during the Clone Wars and after RotS. All scenes share the same theme/ character/ recurring event, which leads to a culmination / final resolution at the end of the film.

This way we get (again) a new kind of SW film, maybe even somewhat arthouse, an introspective if you will.

Anyhoo, this is a way I'd see this film happening. Time will tell if it's so.

As somebody who just recently got into reading the books, there is so much more appreciation you get for characters and their motivations that can't always be captured in the limited amount of time a movie has to tell a story. Using your same line of logic the tv series don't count and while they may not be for everybody, again you gain a deeper appreciation for characters. There have already been slight crossovers between content that is in the shows and content in the movies and I imagine there will be more in the future as more shows pop up, At the end of the day, what is canon is canon and fair game for the creators to use. While I do have mixed feelings about an Obi Wan only movie due to my own uncertainty on what direction they would go in with it, I completely welcome new stories and look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Okay, here are my questions if anyone can answer them from the actual movies:

    Where does Snoke come from?
    Who trained Snoke?
How did he begin the First Order?
    How did Kylo meet Snoke?
How long did he know Snoke before he turned?
How soon after the incident did Luke leave for the island? (An important question-the timeline is all over the place)
What did Han do to reach out to Kylo? Anything?
Where are the Knights of Ren?
What are the Knights of Ren?
What does "Ren" mean, why is it important to Snoke that he named a knighthood after it?
Why did the Republic sit around like targets waiting to blasted out of the sky?
How did the First Order go from suffering their biggest defeat to being all powerful?
How did the First Order take over the galaxy in about 72 hours?
Even if he's in pain, why didn't Luke at least go to save his sister from almost certain death?
Why didn't the Resistance deploy their bombers right away?
Are the Jedi books important or not?
Where has Yoda been during all of this?
Why is Rey so strong in the Force?
    What is Rey's motivation?
What is Finn's motivation at this point?
What is Kylo's motivation at this point? (Besides paraphrasing the Joker)

I'm not gonna get into all the plot holes and contradictions, that's just sloppy writing. These are story points to me, world building points, and character points. GL did it brilliantly for 6 films and 6 seasons of a TV series.

Now, I know that JJ will come up with some hastily concocted BS to "answer" some of these questions, but I think it's clear there was never any road map, that the trilogy is about nothing, and that none of these people respect, understand, know or are qualified to make SW. It's an insult to the audience and to GL.

Remember, the answers have to come from the theatrical versions of the movies and nothing else :)

    Thanks!

So, what you want is for the movies to be huge exposition dumps that just say and explain everything directly. Because, half of your questions are irrelevant to the plot of the movies and other half is clear if you just bother to think about it for a second. You also, for some reason, want 2 movies to provide as much information as 6+121 tv episodes. And the thing is, I can come up with a bigger list of irrelevant questions about the OT and PT, like how did Obi-Wan become Qui-Gon's padawan, where was Ahsoka during RotS, how did Padme become a queen and other such nonsense.

And this is the problem with some of the fandom. This elitist attitude... they think there all writers yet they're just critics on a forum, have social media, and or YouTube accounts. None of us know the first thing about writing for a Hollywood blockbuster. Quit acting like you know how to write a movie.

I'll take a stab at a few of these.

The early days of the first order are shown in the expansion to the battlefront 2 campaign, but you don't recognize any of that outside material so you won't acknowledge this.

Luke cut himself off from the force when he went into exile so he was unable to sense things like Leia being in danger.

The resistance didn't deploy their bombers because they would have been torn apart by the surface guns that Poe took out. The bombers are much larger than Poe's x-wing, hence why he was able to dodge the laser fire.

Yoda is part of the force now and once more Luke had only recently reconnected himself to the force, hence why Yoda may only now have appeared to him.

As far as knowing the motivations for all the characters, we have only seen two movies in this trilogy. So far Finn's motivation has been to just survive (says and does whatever he needs to like saying he was part of the resistance in TFA). Poe is a hot shot fly boy type of character who thinks he has all the answers and believes in not turning tail during combat. Rey's motivation really seems like she just wants to know who she is and where she fits in the greater scheme of things. For Kylo, his goal just seems to be power and I think he has a sort of stuck in the shadow of his family's legacy thing going on. This is of course my own personal interpretation of the characters and some of what I've seen others interpret them as through two movies. I'm sure more will be expanded on in episode 9 since this is the movie that not only wraps up this trilogy, but also the skywalker legacy. The Star Wars universe is ever expanding and as I said earlier there is only going to be more crossover between the different forms of media to continue to tell stories. I love the OT but there are plenty of things that weren't expanded on until the PT (like where the emperor came from and rose to power, the actual clone wars, the fall of the jedi order, etc...) and while I'm not the biggest fan of the new trilogy, I don't think its fair to compare the story told over the course of 6 movies and numerous tv episodes to the story told mainly in 2 movies.

Luke is TOLD Leia is in danger. By Rey. He does nothing. Absolutely nothing.
How long has Luke been cut off? Didn't he confer with Yoda about Kylo? Why not? Wouldn't Yoda intervene, as Obi Wan and Qui Gon did, at a moment of great crisis, being omniscient and all that?

The rest: you're writing the movie. Find this in scenes. Dialogue. It's not there. As rudimentary as the PT dialogue is, as painfully on the nose as it is--at least it's there. George took the time to put it in there. He then bothered to put the rest on film in 6 seasons of TCW. On screen. It turns out that it's a lot of world building, and it makes sense, he clearly worked it out o the Nth degree, you can see why it didn't make it in, but he put the important stuff in the movies so you could follow it.

I am having extreme flashbacks to 9/11 conspiracy theory forums I used to frequent....

Long lists of questions to debunkers for us to "answer"....

Fully developed and supported answers provided, summarily ignored, followed by further questions.

If my answers are all "lame", why do you care?

    I'm out.

There's plenty in this thread that we have provided, you're just choosing to be ignorant to those answers. Do you really want two hours of exposition? Cause your questions are going to be that.

Did you ask these type of questions when you watched the Original Trilogy?

Did you criticize because it didn't explain where Emperor came from? Did you complain because you didn't see the rise of the Empire? Did you question Leia or Hans or Luke's motivation in the films? Did you feel short changed because the First Death Star was blown up and yet the Empire was "all powerful"?

My guess to all of these would be no and and yet i'm sure you still enjoyed the films even though it wasn't all explained at the time.

I could list the answers to some and others yet have not been answered but we do have one more film left of the ST so there is a very likely chance some of these will be answered then.

But the original post was about a Star Wars stand alone film on Obi Wan Kenobi which will likely delve and explain more about the character of Obi Wan in a "theatrical version" which is what you want isn't it?

You can ask the exact same questions for the OT/PT and you won't find the answers in the movies...

I will only answer the motivation questions now because there are so obviously in the movie.

    What is Rey's motivation?
To become a Jedi and to bring back Kylo Ren. => Mentioned and shown in the movie

What is Finn's motivation at this point?
Rey. Nothing more needs to be said.

What is Kylo's motivation at this point?

"Rey... I want you to join me. We can rule together and bring a new order to the galaxy."

Like they did when Anakin turned and killed all the Jedi? No, they "ran away".

There is something called imagination. If the movies give you all the answers, then there is no use of keeping invested and use your brain to fill the spots.

Apparently you haven't watched these movies yourself because then you would know that you're way off with your wish for (unnecessary) answers.

At least some of us are responding while you are just insulting or hating on others... I call this bogus!

More like 22 years to build. 6 years to destroy. 4 years to save (which is still arguable at this point).
