The lightsaber thing made one laugh, but I think it was more a shock or unexpected than anything. Like adding the "I know" in ESB, then how it's reused in ROTJ it is funny, unexpected, but it's not roll on the floor and it's now iconic. We all know it was an improvised thing, because we've seen it so many times it's no longer funny.

    Yeah...

Sometimes we get a moment of clarity like this when we realize why Legends needed to be scrubbed.

    Amen.

Although Luke tossing the saber was consistent with the narrative, it was far too jarring to justify the momentary chuckle it produced. it felt too try-hard and contrived IMO. I don't know. Maybe I'm too old for this kind of self-aware clever parody in the wrong context.

On the other hand, Hux and Poe's interaction was more Star Warsy. It reminded me of Han babbling on the intercom of the DS pretending to be an Empire officer in A New Hope. Here we realize that Han is impulsive but pretty dum. In the conversation between Poe and Hux, Poe comes across as fearless and with little respect for authority. Snoke and Hux's moment is just pure slapstick, but it worked for me. I don't mind the occasional physical joke in Star Wars, but i think it is an art to place it in the right place and using the right character for it. But of course, as many have already said, humour is subjective. What works for others it doesn't necessarily work for me and vice versa.

I felt exactly the same. There was a lot of "coming of age" in this movie.
