I think RJ is better suited for his own trilogy

You never, ever should start a star wars film with a second-rate Jerky boys routine either.

Hot tip: If you want your opinion to be taken seriously don't mention RT audience scores.

How would you feel if at the beginning of ESB Han and Luke reenacted a scene from Animal House, and you would get why the opening of TLJ was so off.

This was supposed to be our Empire, this was supposed to be the greatest film of the decade, but no, RJ gave us something infinitely worse than anything that happened in the Prequels in my opinion.

It's not accurate to judge films based on RT audience scores, but I can't think of a single film on that site where audiences and critics are this far off (47 points!). From what I've read, this is not Russian bots, this is not internet trolls, the criticism is real. I feel that the franchise was derailed yet again. It repeated one trick to good writing and it just repeated that same trick over and over again for two and a half hours. It confirmed my worst fears that Disney was going to add more terrible films to the franchise already weakened by Lucas. That is just my opinion.

I could see RJ writing and directing a Vader trilogy.

The game of thrones guys are probably working on a whole new time period. So, I doubt RJ would be doing ANOTHER time period. Which leaves us at an AWESOME idea for a trilogy.

Rian Johnson's trilogy is supposed to be a different period that's unrelated to the Skywalker Saga. The rumor is the thrones guys are doing something in the Old Republic... true or not I can see them aiming at a slightly older audience. If that's the case the plan my be to target younger audiences with RJ's trilogy.

Once again, there will never be SW movie that will be better than ESB (fans won't allow it). The pedestal for that movie is set way to high that no future SW movies will ever achieve. TLJ being the best movie of the decade isn't exactly a realistic goal either. We're already 5 movies and 30+ years in since ESB came out and not a single one of them were the greatest movie of their decade or much less better than ESB. People need to start having their expectations in check for real and stop setting themselves up for disappointment.

I always assumed that the RJ trilogy would take place after the Skywal
Having a film not meet expectations is one thing, but RJ did absolutely nothing right in making TLJ, and many people (including myself) got to relive the traumas of the PT all over again.

The prequels weren't very good, but I never felt traumatized watching them. If all you're going to do is come here and complain about Rian Johnson I would suggest you find a new hobby and leave those of us excited about a new Star Wars story alone.

Why do the Last Jedi haters always feel the need to add the tag "many people"

Part of the reason for the continued over the top outrage is the fact most people like it. I guess they feel like ownership of the franchise has been taken away. Imagine loving something and then hating the new stuff, but then finding out most people love it. This probably leads to the confusion.

Makes sense, my guess would be insecurity to let their opinion stand on it's own.

I don't know. I still feel genuinely angry at the film, but if RJ's new trilogy turns out to be good and TLJ gets a better reappraisal because of it, maybe I'll change my mind about it.

Probably because there are many people. Maybe not the majority by any means. But still many.

Not sure why this got a snoke.

(I know this is gonna sound snarky and condacending, but in all honesty it is not ment to be. I am genuinely worried...)

So, feeling angry at a film is alright, if a bit concerning (is a movie really that important?). Feeling disappointed seems psychologically more healthy, though. But raging on 15 months laters seems downright pathalogical to me and very unhealthy indeed. IIRC, grief over loosing a loved one is offisially classified as clinical depression if it lasts more than 6 months...

(I was also going to point out that calling the PT a trauma is a bit insulting to people who have suffered actual trauma, but perhaps there is something to using that term here? Perhaps the PT & TLJ are somehow attached to deeper psychologically issues for a segment of the population, a severe crisis of identity or something? In that case, the rest of us ought perhaps to tread a little more lightly around those fans who struggles personally in the aftershock of TLJ & the PT? I for one would like to apologize for any pain my defening TLJ might have caused anyone. Mental health is hard...)

Agreed. That was harsh, and a bit weird.

This is the last time I reply on this subject ( do not want to derail the topic too much) I never feel the need to say "I and many others loved Last Jedi" I speak for myself and feel comfortable letting my opinion stand on its own without bringing in "many others" to help support my stance.

Just throwing in my two cents on the "many people" phenomenon-

If you like the movie, you don't need to qualify it. We won. The film is canon, and you got a Star Wars you enjoyed. There's no need to point out if the majority did enjoy the film, because we can just rest on our laurels, watch TLJ again, and wait for EpIX.

If you hated TLJ, you want a movement. You want to act like there are people rallying in the streets, fighting the "good cause". You want, ironically, to be a Rebellion. So, you might see more value in boasting about (or inflating) your numbers.

I guess the thing is, though, there's no doubt that there were "many" people on both sides. The fandom would be a lot more unified right now if there weren't.

But movies aren't a democracy. It's fine to not like them, but... all you can really do is shrug and hope for better in the future. The "Remake the Last Jedi" crowd totally and insultingly thinks that they know know what's best for all fans, even the ones who already got a movie they liked. That's not the movement for the people they pretend to be, it's a selfish (and unlikely) attempt at a power grab to fulfill their own wishes.

    Just leaving a reminder:

I suggest we get this thread back on topic, as we seem to have digressed a tad.

I’m interested in seeing how Rian will handle the characters in his movies. Other than maybe Empire Strikes Back, The Last Jedi was arguably the most character-driven Star Wars movie and since Rian will now have more control over the arcs of the characters throughout an entire trilogy, instead of just the middle chapter, that alone gets me excited to see what he’ll cook up in this new series.

I agree, we've never seen a film trilogy in SW where all three films are character driven, even in he OT.
