I think the attack plan in this one is just worst.

After they noticed the existence of Starkiller base, they are planning for an attack. There are four "good side's" attack operations against enemy bases-the battle of Yavin, the battle of Endor, the battle of Naboo, and this one. Oh god, this is not only the most awfully planned attack among them, but one of the worst attack operation in the entire saga.

Do they have enough information? Of course not.

Except the location of the weak point and its appearance, they do not have any kind of information about the base. Just attacking in this kind of situation is pretty vacuous.

Let’s compare with the last three attack operations. At ANH, the rebels actually acquired a secret plan of the Death Star. They found out not only the weak spot, but also a fact that the defense of the battle station is not tight enough to fight against small fighter attacks. So they had guarantee that they will have some advantages in the battle. So this attack was reasonable enough.

At ROTJ, the rebels discovered that the battle stations is pretty vulnerable without the energy shield. Even though they were trapped, their attack was reasonable in their situation.

At TPM, our side comprehended the size of the enemy at first time, and they have guarantee that they are pretty familiar with the structure of the enemy’s headquarter(because it was originally Naboo government property). Moreover, they planned for a diversion battle and a fail-safe plan(fighter attack) as well.

What about this? Do they know anything about the enemy’s defense? Nope, nothing. They do not have any technical data, any information about detailed structure of the base, and they did not even know what kind of defense the base has, so they cannot guarantee whether the base is weak against their fighter-only attack or not. I think Poe’s quote “As long as there is a light, we got a chance” does not make sense as well, because that is totally not a clear sign for how much time they have. Despite all these problems they still go for an attack. This is just reckless. They would be all killed if the first order is not as clumsy as they are.

Well, if their attack is this poorly planned, shouldn’t the rest of the resistance evacuate and make a backup plan? Getting some help from some star systems, sending spies on the base, or whatever. They are better than doing nothing and just praying for their stupid attack being successful.

they do know how long they have: they are monitoring Starkiller's charge.
    • that's how they know they are targeted,
    • that's how they know when the light dies they've run out,
    • and that's how they know they have to attack even with the sloppiest plan ever.
there was going to be no second chance for a backup plan because they were all going to die.
it was a desperate suicide run.

that all seemed very clear in the movie to me.
i guess not clear to everyone?

This is one of the reasons as to why I call TFA "Star Wars - Lite ."

The bigger they are (death stars) the easier are to destroy? That just sucks...imo the worst part of the movie...
And why isn't Resistance evacuating after finding out they are targeted...not much sense...Galaxy is counting on liar Finn to know how to lower the shields...
Can't they tell when someone is lying? Finn is very obvious...

In TPM they resolved the problems with plot armor, which made even less sense.

    1. Why did the jedi order send only two jedi (one of which is still just a padawan) to resolve an 1000 years old danger?
    2. Why did they bring Anakin back to Naboo, and why did they drag the unarmed, scared kid into a warzone?
    3. They went back to Naboo without any plan or help from the Republic. Basically they've returned into the same situation as the beginning of the movie.
    4. Where did the blockade go? Why was there only one single ship? How can one single ship control over the entire population and infrastructure of Naboo and also provide enough resources to keep maintaining the entire army?
    5. Why does the droid army need online wireless control from a ship in space? Why didnt the Trade Fedaration just use one of the Naboo communication centers (or build their own) on the panet to prevent losing the control over their full army over a lucky attack?
    6. If the Trade Fedaration is so unbeliveably stupid, that they use the equal of around 50s soviet technology, all Qui-gon and co. needed was 2 engineers to interfere with the online signal, thus defeating the entire Trade Fedararation Army in an estimated 5-10 minutes.
7.,,We can enter the city using the secret passages on the waterfall side. Once we get to the main entrance, Captain Panaka will create a diversion. Then we can enter the palace and capture the viceroy. Without the viceroy, they will be lost and confused."
How did she know the viceroy will stay in the palace after they recieved the informations about the gungan attack? ,,Without the viceroy, they will be lost and confused" Droids, programed to kill, will be lost and confused by capturing one guy who dosent even give the orders directly...Makes less than zero sense.
If the Droid Controlship wouldnt' ve been destoryed by an 8 years old, the droid army would've been just ordered to go back to the city and kill everyone except the queen.

    8. Why did the gungans (an underwater living species) have a medieval like terrestrial army with catapults and giant dinosarus?
8.5 What was Qui-gon's plan without the gungans anyways? Did he assume the underwater living species will magically have an army and help them aswell for no real reason?
    9. Why did the viceroy ordered the entire army out of the city to fight a meaningless battle with the local natives? Why did he even care about them? If he wants to fight the battle fight it around the city where he is... The intention of distraction was so obvious that even Jar-jar would've figured it out in second...
    10. What was the point of capturing the viceroy if the Droid Controlship is still online? Why not just 1) destory the controlship first, 2) Get into the empty palace and capture viceroy without a single drop of blood...

    I completely agree.

I'm still not a huge fan of another big Death Star but I thought the plot was quite obvious.

I was going to say this, but I was beaten to the punch.

Yeah, there is a reason I really do not like most of the ending of The Phantom Menace. Though, as much as it pains me to do so, I do think some of your points are wrong.:
    3) What's the Republic going to do? Don't forget that the whole time that Amidala is trying to plead her case, the Trade Federation bureaucracyed the hell out of the proceedings.
8.5) This wasn't Qui-Gon's plan. It was Padmé's. And she knew they had an army (Jar Jar told her on Coruscant). All she had to do was convince them to unite their forces.
    10) To be fair, they kinda had to get into the palace anyway to get the fighters.
Still, the Battle of Naboo is stupid as hell.

It was either just go for it (ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!) with little hope, or do nothing and get destroyed.

    1. Because of the political matters in the republic. It has been mentioned through 3 scenes in the movie. Did you watch the same movie with me?
    2. Then, what should they do? leave the kids with jedis or the senators, who are totally not friendly to him? By the way, I think the second part is the only valid point you made in here. Congrat!
    3. Same answer as one.
    4. You do not need a blockade when you totally control over ports in there. What a waste of money if you keep it? I hope you do not get a military officer job.
    5. To move the main command from their control ship into some kind of battle station is not that easy. Said is easier that did, dude!
    6. I do not even know what the hell are you talking about. Neither the Soviet Union nor every modern military does not have something control battle robots remotely.
7-1. What the hell, even the battle was far from the city, if the droid army did not fight against gungans they would advance toward the city, and that is even great danger to them. Do you even search or google anything about military?
7-2. "The trade federation's droid army" includes not only the droids but also the system controls it and the neimodians, who are the true brains of the army. And the brains will surely get lost and confused when their leader is captured. Seriously, do you really believe US military will go for an "whatever attack" even the enemy has US president as a hostage? And think about a situation that your computer keeps working on something even if you make an order to stop it...well, here is Skynet!
    8. The slack animal-mobility shield and catapults indicates that those were made immediately, not owned by gungans originally. Second, gungans are not entirely water dwellers, they are amphibious. Did you see their legs and the fact that they were walking in their city?
8-1. That was Padme's plan. Again, did you even watch the movie? And because Naboo surface people and gungans originally knows each other, it does makes sense that she knows what facilities gungans have.
    9. Same as 7-1.
    10. I will give you this question. "What is your point of focusing on destroying the control ship, if the viceroy escapes and bring more force?" And this was said by Obi-Wan in an important scene, and it seems you never understand the sentence even if that was not that hard to understand. And again, your idea that an army will not care and just keep fighting when their leader is captured pretty makes no sense.
    11. Most of your points are similar with Plinkett's, then their is no surprise that most of your points are invalid because Plinkett's reviews were filled with just full of pettifogging.

I meant the rest of the resistance. I mean, the all fighters are not all of the resistance, Right? What all ground crews, admiral Ackbar, Leia and all others doing? Just hoping for a success? Shouldn't they evacuate and do something else if they know the attack is reckless, unlike ANH Death Star attack? Nothing is keeping them from their escape. No blockade, the enemy base is not close to them, and they knew they are being targeted before the main group of their fighters go for the attack.

P.S. They did know they are being targeted even before Finn, Han and Chewie depart.
    --- Double Post Merged, May 4, 2016 ---
There was another choice: the fighters group goes for the attack and the rest of them escapes and get some help from some of thousands systems in the republic. And I think this is most reasonable, but it seems in the movie the resistance did not even consider this choice. WTH?

Yeah I think a lot of people over look things because that's the way that Disney designed this movie for Lucasfilm .

He was originally having no plans or responsibility for million people's lives... It was just a made up reaction. And that was the moment the movie made me angry toward the character I loved for a while.(I do not mean that I hate him because of this-I still love him but that was just...ooowww.

Well, just like all Star Wars movies...Some stuff is really dumb...and some stuff is really awesome (e.g. Kylo/Rey saber fight). TFA is easily the least creative of the Saga so far (mostly due to the lack of George, I think). The whole "whoa, a new death star! Oh wait, a weak point. Ready? Break!" planning session was very weak. Like most of the 2nd and 3rd acts of the movie, it was rushed. The battle itself looked pretty cool though.

Well, I dont really think I've watched the movie with you. Btw what does ,,political matters" mean in this context? Can you quote me the 3 scenes please?
The whole situation started out to be a ,,political matter" when Valorum sent two jedi as ambassadors in secret.
The sith was a danger the Republic hasn't faced in a millenia. If sending Qui-gon and Obi-wan was no problem, than sending more jedi (maybe under secret) shouldn't have been a problem in this very serious issue.

Because only senators and jedi were the only one on Coruscant a poor solitary kid can be left with? And beeing unfriendly to a kid imo is still better than dragging him into a warzone imo, but whatever.

Yes, and that is the issue... Padmé went back to the exact same situation she left the planet. In fact, after the TF took control over the planet she was in an even worse situation... The only logical decision for her would've been to stay on Coruscant and wait for help, because she had absolutely zero chance to defeat the TF alone. Oh, except if she is beeing protected by the poorly written plot armour.
Btw Padmé as a queen should've known that the courts of Coruscant are slow decision makers, so going to Coruscant will be useless anyways.
Well the military officers of the TF also needed some postgraduate course as it turned out leaving one single very vounerable ship to control an entire invasion was not the best idea eiter. And leaving the docking bay wide open during the battle was also not the best decision.
One ship cant even provide the requirement of maintaining the army, not the control over the whole planet... If they were on a budget cut, than leave 5 ships around the planet. 2 to protect the droid controlship and 2 for the supplies.
Considering the TF risked everything (trillions of invested credits money, political position etc) with that action, they should've done it. Btw its not that hard. Just take over the control of some communication stations on the planet.
Nice way to avoid answering, I was just beeing sarcasting on that. Btw its not that hard again. I've done it multiple times in college with radio signals (im a physicist btw). I know this is nitpicking, and considering the prequels were made for 8 years olds, I shouldn't complain too much, but you do the same with TFA, so sry.
What great danger? Just go away from the city maybe?
A droid army, controlled from space and programed to kill will not care about ,,capturing" the viceroy. They capture him so what? The army will go back to the city and kill everyone except the queen. Why should they care at all? They know the viceroy won't be killed... And if he will than what? Considering Sidious was still in charge of this ,,battle", he will order the capturing of the queen regardless of the life of the viceroy...
Considering they've used giant trained dinosaurs to carry their shield generators indicates that it wasnt spontaneous. Btw the droid army should've just used some gas or biological weapon. Or maybe an aerial attack... Their military officers really needed that pg course...
If she indeed knew the gungans, she should've involved Qui-gon in her plans, and she must've known that the the gungans dont like outlanders so they probably wont risk the life of their people for a half assed plan made by a 14 years old girl... Except if the plot allowes it...
The viceroy should've just fly back to the controlship and leave the dirty job for some unlucky inferior. Or maybe just leave the city...
Alright then secure the palace from a safe distance, destroy the controlship in a suprise attack, then march in and capture the viceroy without a single drop of blood.
