That reminds me of another one.

I would love it if Kylo Ren and Rey both died together in the final film; either by killing each other, or unifying as a team and dying in a final desperate act.
    SPOILER: Won't f***ing happen. :p

    Cheers,
    Jayson

OK guys, here are some of mine…
    • When I was 9 years old, I fell in love with Princess Leia
    • ‘Star Wars - Galactic Battlegrounds’ for me was one of the most enjoyable SW games ever
    • I like how the OT special editions added some depth in environment, like on cloud city
    • Boba Fett was always beyond cool because I owned his Kenner action figure, which was allowed to sleep next to my bed in the early 80s
    • RoTJ has the highest number of great starship designs added in any one film of the series (RoTS is close)
    • I don’t like the flimsiness of the Naboo star fighter
    • The X-Wing EU novels from Stackpole I found quite entertaining
    • Most of the other EU books I couldn’t get on terms with (with a few exceptions)
    • Big fan of the Jedi/Sith dualism/mysticism and ancient history
    • I liked the broom boy scene
    • Never understood why Snowtrooper instead of the regular ones, have to conquer a salt planet were everybody else was fine just in a normal jacket
    • I see the exploding content in written form a bit skeptic in terms of quality
    • For me, the ST lacks menacing adversaries
    • Sometimes I use Jar Jar quotes in real life
    • I don’t have a problem with Chuck Wendig’s trilogy
    • I’m always hyped by the vehicles you can spot for 0.5 s in the background, like the UT-AT. Or the AT-ST scene in ESB. Back then, it was there for 2 seconds, but became one iconic thing afterwards
    • I hate the designs of the shuttles that Rose & Fin occupy (Resistance & 1st Order)
    • It’s kind of lazy to me that in SOLO, all the known stations of his life were told like on a checkmark list, but I prized especially the environment of Corellia (I wanted more of this), and I would have loved to see more of his time with the imperial navy
    • I never saw ‘Caravan of Courage’ nor will I most probably
    • I find ‘Bad Lip Reading’ also makes for fine SW scores, at list you can rock your feet to those tunes
    • Clankers (B1 battle droids) don’t look so flimsy if your standing directly in front of them, they are still towering menacingly over you (or at least over me), while having very massive steel claws. Tested it during the Star Wars ‘Identities’ exhibition

Rey has to be held accountable for her actions. She basically betrayed the Resistance (and Finn in particular) by literally shipping herself to Kylo, and then she betrayed HIM by running away as soon as he said something she didn't like. I want to see Finn asking her why she ran to the man who sliced his back, and I want to see Kylo asking her why she left him like that. No, I'm not saying that I wish she made different choices. She made very human choices, all of them understandable. Regardless, everyone has a reason to feel wronged by her. She needs to explain herself to Finn, and I hope I won't see Kylo running around trying to make up for his mistakes BEFORE she learns how to say "I'm sorry". He's not the only one to blame for how things ended. Everyone is treating Rey as if she's an angel who can do no wrong, and that needs to stop.

i gotta agree with this one.
a lot of people just see Ren not "doing the right thing".
they overlook the fact that Rey went in there with all kinds of assumptions and then demanded he do what she wanted, and then on top of all that, she was the one who got aggressive when he didn't just capitulate. she could have tried to have a conversation with him, instead she just went for the lightsaber.

which is not to say he isn't a bumbling idiot who did his best impression of Darcy back-handing her a galactic proposal.

they both failed each other in that moment. big time.

Rey and Finn escaping Jakku on the Falcon was pure fan service, which then forced the whole Han and Chewie 'finding' them, Rathtar, KanjiKlub nonsense into the story... there must have been a better way for the characters to end up thrown together (meeting at Maz's for example) eliminating the need for the absurd 'Han lost the Falcon' tale.

Rather than give you my hot takes, I asked an artificially-intelligent robot instead (it's much more hilarious :D).

So, to get the wise robot to speak, I fed it some words:

    Does R2-D2 hate C-3PO?

Does R2-D2 hate C-3PO? If you really think about it, though, he'd definitely. At one point in the Star Wars films, in the final battle of the Rebellion, Dooku is literally killing C-3PO by tossing him to get him to attack Luke. Dooku's motive is obvious: to try and teach C-3PO some of the things he learns from Leia.

Therein lies the problem, though: Dooku doesn't even give an explicit reason for this evil. He just tells Luke and Yoda that R2-D2 was "the greatest droid ever in existence" (or perhaps Luke or Leia are too bright for the Dark Side. Regardless, whatever, R2-D2 didn't give a damn). We know that Luke has already seen or heard a great deal about R2-D2's exploits, and that a "greatest droid ever" (or perhaps R2-D2 is just a little too bright for the Dark Side) is one who can give Luke the truth about C-3PO: that he will never see C-3PO anymore if his friend lives.

The relationship between Kylo and Rey...

The relationship between Kylo and Rey and Poe and the First Order is actually just a good analogy for how the Kylo/Rey relationship plays out in general. We're talking about a relationship as intense as, "Hey dude, I got two more years with you!" (laughs) So there are more subtlety variations too, but there you go…

Q: There's a lot of fun, heart-wrenching moments in this movie, like the moment when Rey falls off one of the Millennium Falcon's back legs.

JEREMY ASMUS: You know what? Yes. That's the best part about this movie, isn't it? That was amazing. Those moments where Rey fell and the Falcon came charging out of the sky and threw her. She wasn't going to last that long. But you're still sitting there with that one little moment and thinking to yourself, "Man, this character is amazing… what's going on here?"

The one thing I'd change about Star Wars is...

"The one thing I'd change about Star Wars is that I'd try to think of things a little more from the viewpoint of an alien as opposed to a human. A lot of the story beats are alien, they're very human, and I could see myself writing a story about someone who's alien to the people that we deal with in our daily lives, and I couldn't write about it through any kind of human eyes."

"My character is a space pirate from outer space – he's a member of The Order of the Phoenix and he's a former Jedi Knight," explained Lucasfilm co-producer Kathleen Kennedy.

The funniest thing about Star Wars is...

"The funniest thing about Star Wars is that everyone gets along with each other — everyone! It's a very funny franchise to work in and we all get along just fine! I'm so glad I didn't get fired last week!"

Revenge of the Sith is the second best movie after Empire

Rogue One is better than Episode 1 and 2 and the Sequel Trilogy.

Poe Dameron is the best sequel character despite being grossly underutalised.

The comics and the books released during the Disney era are better than the sequel trilogy.

Luke is pretty boring at times.

Welcome to the Cantina! I won't fight you on the comics and books, but the Vader: Lord of the Sith comic and Claudia Gray's works should be exceptions to your rule! ;)

    Here's a major controversial one:
Star Wars should emulate the MCU more:

Star Wars' biggest problem at the moment is not having enough time to explore everything it wants or needs to on-screen. While this does leave a great room of things to explore in comics and shows, until Resistance most of those tie-ins have been content to play in the OT era, and are full of red herrings that frankly burned me out a bit. The ST era feels empty, and I think that's a bit sad. This might change after Episode IX, but then it'll feel like the EU is playing "catch up" rather than it feeling organic.

The MCU feels alive because we explore different parts of it in nearly every movie and all these parts relate back to the last. It broadens the scope of the world. And while it's too late now, what if we had a tie-in movie about Finn inciting that Stormtrooper rebellion we all hope he'd get? What if we got a short movie (or add on or something) about Rose and Poe trying to uncover a spy, all while dealing with the fact that Poe is the man who got Page killed relatively unnecessarily? What if we got a movie about a planet rebelling against the Knights of Ren, framed as a tragedy or a war story or something?
What if we built up these distant pieces so that when they came together in an episodic film, it felt special?

You could argue that the purpose of the books and comics and cartoons is to do exactly that, but they really haven't been. And honestly, unless you're already incredibly invested in Star Wars, you're not going to buy the books and comics or watch the cartoons.

I don't think the MCU format can and/or would work for many other franchises, but Star Wars is one of the few that could do it.

I did not know this thread existed and went through all 8 pages of fantastic opinions and points of view! I love this thread.

Here are some of my hot takes regarding the past and future of Star Wars films :
    • TPM is underrated
    • AOTC Battle on Geonosis is 2000's 'Avengers Assemble' Moment
    • Hayden Christensen's Acting is far from bad, the lines are just inorganic to be delivered
    • Jar Jar Binks was portrayed exceptionally well by Ahmed Best
    • Star Wars fans are resistant to change but come to accept it
    • Finn's character development in TLJ is organic
    • TROS will be Oscar Worthy
    • TROS will be the best SW Film
    • Post-TROS, fans will love TLJ even more
    • TFA is actually original
    • Mark Hamill should have received Oscar Buzz for TLJ
    • John Williams will win his 5th Oscar for TROS
    • Alden Ehrenreich was an amazing Han Solo
    • SOLO is an amazing SW film
    • SOLO 2 will happen

    The Oscars are a joke.
There are massive films that are cultural staples and everyone knew it when they came out and still they didn't pop up on the Oscar radar.

Taxi Driver, Psycho, The Good The Bad The Ugly, It's a Wonderful Life, The Shining, and tons more.

Basically, if you're not a drama genre film, you're not going to win the Best Picture award, regardless how little effect that drama has compared to the films that were turned down for it instead.

So...don't hold your breath, and also...it really doesn't mean much that Star Wars doesn't generate much Oscar buzz.
It's pretty clear that Star Wars absolutely dominates western culture.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Taxi Driver, Psycho, and It's a Wonderful Life all received multiple Oscar nominations including best picture noms for Taxi Driver and It's a Wonderful Life. No wins though.

The only Oscar buzz I heard regarding Hamill in TLJ came from JJ.

Point was that they didn't win. ;)
That Oscar awards != cultural relevance.

True, they didn’t, but only one movie can win. Take Taxi Driver for instance. That year it was nominated along with Network, All the President’s Men, Bound for Glory, and Rocky (winner). That’s a pretty good group and just because only one movie out of everything released that year can win, doesn’t make the entire award irrelevant.

True, but if Endgame can generate Oscar Buzz ( it will ), then I'm sure the last film of the Saga, backed up by ( hopefully ) the best works of many of the filmmakers working, it deserves a nomination. But yet again, as you said, it's not that relevant to a further extent, getting recognized for the filmmaking achievements of a great film is a good thing for the franchise moving forward.

Star Wars is about an elderly recluse who brainwashes a young naive orphan with fanatical religious dogma until he blows up a government building.
